Nowadays, with the evolution of digital video broadcasting, as well as, the advent of high speed broadband networks, a new era of TV services has emerged known as IPTV. IPTV is a system that employs the high speed broadband networks to deliver TV services to the subscribers. From the service provider viewpoint, the challenge in IPTV systems is how to build delivery networks that exploits the resources efficiently and reduces the service cost, as well. However, designing such delivery networks affected by many factors including choosing the suitable network architecture, load balancing, resources waste, and cost reduction. Furthermore, IPTV contents characteristics, particularly; size, popularity, and interactivity play an important role in balancing the load and avoiding the resources waste for delivery networks. In this paper, we investigate the problem of resource allocation for IPTV delivery networks over the recent architecture, peer-service area architecture. The Genetic Algorithm as an optimization tool has been used to find the optimal provisioning parameters including storage, bandwidth, and CPU consumption. The experiments have been conducted on two data sets with different popularity distributions. The experiments have been conducted on two popularity distributions. The experimental results showed the impact of content status on the resource allocation process

Technical factors for implementing SOA-Based business intelligence architecture : an exploratory study

Business intelligence (BI) architecture based on service-oriented architecture (SOA) concept enables enterprises to deploy agile and reliable BI applications. However, the key factors for implementing a SOA-based BI architecture from technical perspectives have not yet been systematically investigated. Most of the prior studies focus on organisational and managerial perspectives rather than technical factors. Therefore, this study explores the key technical factors that are most likely to have an impact on the implementation of a SOA-based BI architecture. This paper presents a conceptual model of BI architecture built on SOA concept. Drawing on academic and practitioner literature related to SOA and software architectural design, we propose fourteen key factors that may influence the implementation of a SOA-based BI architecture. This study bridges the gap between academic and practitioners.<br /

Dynamic multimedia content creation for independent learner: A web based learning environment

    Get PDF
This paper arose from a research project conducted to develop a prototype and framework for effective implementation of CBL (Computer Based Learning)courseware. The central objective of the research is to develop a prototype of ILC-WBLE (Independent Learner Courseware in Web Based Learning Environment) as teaching tool for learning the customised Moodle called WBLE among lecturers in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).Digital multimedia content creation with dynamic features and easy retrieval with only few clicks is integrated in the courseware to enhance profiling systems for the ease of use among teachers and students. The effectiveness of the theoretical-based multimedia courseware in the teaching and learning of customised Moodle (WBLE), compared to the conventional face to face teaching in the learning is then evaluated to determine the usability of the prototype

Implementation of LMS among private higher learning institutions in Malaysia

Since the embarked of E-Learning system, education institutions and commercialised organisations adopted this system as tool of training and conveying information and knowledge,in particular, education institutions used E-Learning system facilitate instructors and students in order to foster the teaching and learning process and we called this system as Learning Management System (LMS) and Learning Content Management System (LCMS). Traditional face to face teaching is insufficient for the purpose in development of perpetual learners due to the lack of flexibility compared to E-Learning system where this learning model is an accepted choice for developing an effective educational method due to its flexibility, accessibility and convenience to almost everyone (Rashty, 2010)

The main goal of the current article was to review challenges of online purchasing. Theoretically, this research has few benefits and has importance which the findings of this study will listing the crucial challenges that need to be addressed and tackled to achieve the success of E-commerce (and precisely electronic-shopping) in companies. It encourages additional utilization of technologies of Electronic-Commerce, styles the e-transaction practice at ease, boosts the amount of acknowledgement and adoption of this online technology, results in advancement of online customer responsibility, presents the loyalty concept, raise customer satisfaction, sustains longer-term relationship with clienteles and contributions to obtaining of competitive advantages
