New and existing technologies applied to audiovisual products are changing the way in which we provide and access culture. Nobody challenges the importance of having accessible audiovisual contents. This is the aim of the recently approved European Directives following the compromise with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). The new European legislative framework must guarantee the full and democratic participation of all citizens in the new information society. It is crucial to ensure access to technology and content for all citizens. This presentation will describe six ERASMUS+ projects: ADLAB and ADLABPRO focused on audio description, ACT focused on creating accessible culturals venues, EASIT focused on audiovisual Easy-to-Understand content, LTA focused on live subtitling and IMPACT focused on web accessibility. These Erasmus+ projects are strategic partnerships between public and private stakeholders from the university, SMEs and end-user associations. All share the same aim to create materials to train experts on providing and improving accessibility services in different fields and contexts such as cinema. They have been designed in line with the EC initiative "An agenda for the modernisation of higher education" (2017) since it aims to equip people with the right skills for our digital and modern society and take a coherent skills approach

    Mediaverse goes to ITACA : accessibility training through the co-creation of accessible 360o Tik-Tok videos

    Introduction: The Universitat Aut貌noma de Barcelona is developing the ITACA programme, which offers face-to-face activities to secondary school students who, due to their socio-economic situation, may not consider pursuing higher education studies. As part of the ITACA summer campus, Transmedia Catalonia has proposed a 6-hour activity in which the young students will co-create an accessible 360潞 Tik-Tok video and add audio description to it. Aims : The "360潞 accessible Tik-tok videos" aims to answer the following research question: How can we make sure our videos reach everybody? The specific aims of this project are: a) understanding user needs and alternative communication systems; b) reflect on the co-creation process on platforms different from current social media. These two aims will be achieved by means of the co-creation of a 360潞 video by using 360潞 cameras and the Fader application and by adding an accessibility layer in the form of audio description. The result will be shared through a platform developed in the Mediaverse project, a European project funded by the European Commission. Methodology : Two groups of 10 young students will take part in this activity in June-July 2022. The activity will be developed in three 2-hour sessions, which will be described in the poster. Results: Results will be available in July 2022 and will hopefully show the impact of this type of training activity in the skills and expectations of secondary school students but also on a successful examples of how innovative research at European level can be transferred to society and have an impact on the researcher's immediate environment

    The Future of Mediators for Live Events : LTA Project - Academic and Vocational Training

    Altres ajuts: This work has been co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, under agreement n潞 2018-1-DE01-KA203-004218 (LTA project)Languages and cultures are intimately related; especially in the age of Information Society, where Technology continuously gives rise to new levels of interaction. In this context, the traditional training of language professionals in Translation Studies is no longer in line with current social, and industry requirements. A common discourse among professional translators is the fact that translator training programs are "inefficient, misleading, too theoretical, and irremediably out of touch with market developments" (Pym, 2011: 6). Current market practices in the translation field are evolving and differentiating in terms of method (crowd-sourcing, relay, and live); working possibilities (in person and remote); distribution opportunities (from massive to individual) and roles (translator, interpreter, and linguistic and cultural mediator). Moreover, the disruption of automatic mediation processes clearly demands a fresh look at the training of future professionals, which is already highlighted by the EMT Expert Group (2009: 7). There is, then, a gap to be bridged in training, which requires training skills to be defined for professionals of language and cultural mediation (real-time intralingual reporters or subtitlers), whilst taking into account technical possibilities and industry requirements. This article deals specifically with this topic. In particular, it will start from a definition of mediation as a key concept in Media Accessibility; it will then present the results of a survey regarding the skills required of real-time intralingual subtitlers and their role as mediators in several fields of everyday life; lastly, existing technologies in the field of re-speaking which are used to produce real-time intralingual subtitles on TV and standard live settings will be described, as well as the extent of their contribution to the domain of mediation

    Raising awareness on accessibility through co-created videos using the Mediaverse ecosystem: The CROMA experience

    Introduction : The Universitat Aut貌noma de Barcelona is developing the CROMA programme, which offers face-to-face workshops to primary school children in vulnerable situations. UAB students become mentors and implement a project that has been designed by UAB researcher groups in collaboration with Fundaci贸 Aut貌noma Solid脿ria. Aims : his presentation will explain how a specific project to raise awareness on accessibility was developed by TransMedia Catalonia, namely the project "Seeing through your ears, listening through your eyes". The aims of the project were: a) Becoming aware of the needs of persons with disabilities ; b) Identifying solutions to make audiovisual content accessible ; c) Co-creating a 360潞 interactive accessible video. To this end, students became familiar with three access services: audio description, subtitling and sign language interpreting. An additional aim of the project was to improve the linguistic skills of the children. Methodology : Sixty-six children from 6 schools close to UAB took part in the project in the year 2021-2022, mentored by higher education students. First, the mentors were trained in accessibility. Then, the co-creation workshop developed in eight sessions. To co-create the 360潞 accessible videos Fader, an application from the Mediaverse project, was used. Mediaverse is a European project that aims to develop an innovative ecosystem where creators can share their media content while keeping control of intellectual property rights and monetization. Results : Children presented the results of their co-creation activity in a visit to the research group premises at UAB in May 2022. The facilitators also took part in the evaluation of the Mediaverse tools, contributing to innovative research. This presentation will describe how training on accessibility can be provided at primary school through a series of engaging extracurricular activities and how knowledge transfer can take place through formative activities that have a social impact on the researcher's immediate environment
