In Malaysia Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is increasingly becoming a priority for developers and property companies to lead urban planning towards creating a quality, prosperous and sustainable living environment. Malaysia is still relying heavily on traditional planning for its infrastructure development. The objectives of this study are to analyze current planning related to TOD in Malaysia and identify the economic, social and environmental benefits of TOD. A mixed method research approach was used. Quantitative data was collected using questionnaire survey and qualitative data obtained through interviews. The respondents for the questionnaire survey aimed at determining the benefits of TOD consisted of the transit community using the KL Sentral Station. Whilst the investigation on the current planning by the local authority with regards to TOD was undertaken based on data obtained from Johor state local council town planners. The results indicate that from a general perspective social benefits are perceived to be the greatest and from a personal perspective the environmental benefits are greatest. Whilst the current planning regarding TOD in Malaysia is very much at initial planning stages in the case of Johor state and the main emphasis is on reducing the number of people using private transport vehicles on the road. This study provides a reliable transit community perspective regarding the real economic, social and environmental benefits of TODs and provides a timely reflection for local council town planner and key stakeholders to review thier approach to leverage on the wider benefits of TOD

As one of the leading tourism destinations in Malaysia particularly after Kuala Lumpur and Pahang, Penang faces competition with its neighbouring competitors. To remain competitive, Penang needs to identify its strengths and weaknesses and consequently develop its future marketing strategies to secure high tourists’ satisfaction. Indeed, tourist satisfaction needs to be measured and monitored. In light of this consideration, it is believed that the importanceperformance analysis (IPA) was found to be a practical and useful technique for evaluating attributes that satisfy tourist and at the same time measure the importance of the same attributes to the tourists. This paper presents an application of the IPA technique to a sample of 372 international visitors who visiting Penang Island between September to October 2012. The data, analyzed quantitatively using matrices, showed the mean score of importance, which were plotted against performance onto two-dimensional axis. Results show that Penang performs well in five items namely (1) safety and security; (2) image of destination; (3) variety of attractions; (4) value for money; and (5) accessibility to the destination. On the other hands, findings show that there is room for improvement for accommodation services, and other areas like friendliness of the people and cultural/historical uniqueness appear to get too much attention. Moreover, this study is significant in identifying the prime market segments and evaluating the products and services provided. As a result, it provides an insight for tourism stakeholder such as hotels operators, public transport operators, food operators, policy makers and others towards enhancing future development of tourism in Penang

Does saving stimulate growth? the case of Malaysia

In the 21th century, Malaysia became one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asian region and has been ranked as the third highest savings rate economy in the Newly Industrializing Economies (NIEs). This impressive performance has attracted the economists and international’s attention which demands some explanation. However, in empirical side, the savings-led growth notion is still inconclusive for the Malaysian economy. The debate really centres on ‘which causes which’. This paper is an attempt to re-investigate the issue that prevails. By using the econometric approach of ARDL and extended data of 47 years which can be considered as ‘fresh data’, the study concludes that there is a uni-directional causality existing between savings and growth, where savings lead to growth, and not the other way around. Thus, this finding becomes additional empirical evidence that supports the previous literature of savings-led growth. The policy for promoting savings should be geared up in order to stimulate growth and eventually will lead to the well-being of the Malaysian economy

Online learning has replaced traditional face-to-face classroom instruction in the educational system. Learning via mobile, or mobile learning, is one of the solutions that most learners use since it is less expensive and easier to adopt on the go. However, in addition to hindering information transfer, issues such as small screen size and bad interface design can also make learning more cognitively demanding. This paper presents a systematic literature review on the user interface design of mobile learning applications based on the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses approach. Articles selected for this study were published after the COVID-19 outbreak, between 2020 and 2022. The goal of this research was to outline the current user interface design criteria and guidelines applied when designing a mobile learning application and explore how these factors affect the learner’s cognitive load. It also aimed to identify potential research gaps and future opportunities in the creation of a UID guideline/framework for mobile learning. The findings of this study may be used as a guideline for designers, developers, educators, instructors, and others who are interested in creating a mobile learning application that provides learners with an effective knowledge and mobile learning experience
