The number of connected devices grows rapidly each year as more and more enterprises realize its potentials. Despite the benefits, data privacy and security in Internet of Things (IoT) remain a major issue. IoT devices generates massive data but are limited in resources. The proliferation of IoT devices and the increasing network traffic have heightened the attack surface. Moreover, the susceptibility of transmitted data to eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle attacks is a great concern to users and manufacturers. It is not all IoT devices that utilize encryption. IoT traffic from devices that transmit data in plain text will expose sensitive information if intercepted by an adversary. Such a vulnerability can be exploited to facilitate identity theft and implement other devasting cyber-attacks. This paper presents an implementation of a cloud-based security approach for transmitted data in IoT. The design is based on Lambda architecture using Amazon Web Services. The proposed approach effectively processes and analyzes real-time sensor data as well as historical data from a master database on the cloud. It also ensures the security of user’s information. The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has led to massive generation of sensor data and increase in attack vectors. Traffic generated by these devices require more exploratory studies in order to determine the effective ways to secure transmitted data and avert exploitation by hackers. IoT devices susceptibility to direct or remote manipulation, secure channel used for message transmission and resilience of the underlying middleware (broker) to exploitation are very important issues that worth consideration. With more data ever being collected than before, the security of user’s information and devices identities are becoming a great concern. In this research work, we evaluate the vulnerabilities inherent in an IoT ecosystem design that was developed using Raspberry Pi, sensors and MQTT protocol. We also developed a real-time anomaly detection in sensor reading to avert dangerous situation and evaluate the effectiveness of our work. The internet has played an important role in increasing the popularity of sports betting in Nigeria. The Nigerian sport betting companies are faced with several challenges most especially that of strong competition from rival firms and high marketing costs involved with creating awareness and getting customers. These companies also face issues with the way it has been perceived by the general public due to its addictive nature. One of the tools sport betting companies use to reach and convert their audience is digital marketing. The study explored the influence of digital marketing on the gambling behaviour of youth Punters in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted a mixed research methodology in answering the research questions posed in the study. A structured questionnaire and focus group discussion were used as instruments for data collection. A total of 600 copies of the questionnaire were administered to punters between the ages of 18 to 35 based on three senatorial districts in Lagos State, Nigeria while the focus group discussion was carried out with thirty Punters based on three senatorial districts in Lagos State, Nigeria. Quantitative data analyses were carried out using regression analysis while qualitative data were analyzed and interpreted using Thematic Analysis. The result of the inferential statistical analysis showed that search engine marketing has a significant on the motive of youth Punters. The regression analysis of the hypotheses explained by the R2 could be deduced that search engine marketing explains 16.4% variation in the motive of youth punters, social media marketing explained 8.4% variation in the personalities of youth punters, online display advertisement explains 26.6% variation in the perception of youth punter and online content marketing explains 28.3% variation in the learning of youth punter at a significance level less than 1%. The result obtained from the qualitative analysis of the study revealed several recurring themes which are search engine marketing and financial gains for the first objective, social media marketing, and thorough mindedness, online display ads and Ads blindness and online content marketing and online learning of youth punters. The investigation of the quantitative study validated that of a qualitative study in all the objectives except the third. The third quantitative findings opposed the findings of the qualitative study in the sense that the majority of the punters that partook in the focus group discussion developed a way of blocking the online display ads. This study revealed that one of the most significant influences of digital marketing has come from social media marketing due to the huge amount of people digital marketers have access to. Based on the findings, the study recommended that digital marketing agencies and betting companies should focus on providing long-term value for their consumers to help protect society from harm caused by betting

Introduction. Cancer constitutes a formidable global public health challenge, infection complicates effective treatment regimen and detrimentally impacts survival in cancer-patients. This predicament is exacerbated by the rising specter of antimicrobial resistance. Methods. The study was conducted amongst clinically diagnosed cancer patients attending University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure. Characterization of bacterial and fungal isolates from blood samples of the patients was performed using standard microbiological procedures. Antimicrobial susceptibility assessment was performed using disk diffusion and microdilution methods. Results. Overall, 40.3% of cancer cases manifested in individuals aged above 60 years, with breast cancer emerging as the predominant malignancy, accounting for 68.1% of cases. Moreover, retirees constituted the demographic with the highest representation among the cancer patients, encompassing 36.8% of the study population. The prevailing bacterial isolates comprised Klebsiella pneumoniae (25%) and Klebsiella aerogenes (18.75%), while Aspergillus fumigatus (30.12%) and Candida albicans (24.09%) constituted the predominant fungal isolates. Remarkably, the antimicrobial agents Cefuroxime, Cotrimoxazole, and Amphotericin-B exhibited suboptimal efficacy against these isolates. Conclusion. This study shows the increased vulnerability of cancer patients to opportunistic bacterial and fungal pathogens, many of which show resistance to conventional antimicrobial agents. Strict infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship measures are advocated to reduce infections in this susceptible population

    Get PDF
The performance of two classification techniques, logistic regression and Support Vector Machines (SVMs), in assessing vaccination data is investigated in this study. The model was trained based on leave-out-one cross validation to obtain an accurate result. Simulated with ten thousand replications, a life data set was used to establish a better model. The findings from the simulation revealed that the logistic regression model slightly outperformed the SVM while the life data shows that the tuned SVM outperformed both the logistic and the SVM. This demonstrates the practical utility of advanced approaches such as SVMs in difficult categorization scenarios such as vaccination prediction. The study emphasizes the superiority of the customized SVM model in this setting, as well as the potential of machine learning approaches to increase comprehension of complicated healthcare scenarios and guide data-driven decision-making for influencing vaccination plans and public health. The study recommends the use of logistic regression if the data point is high
