Coulomb corrections to bremsstrahlung in electric field of heavy atom at high energies
The differential and partially integrated cross sections are considered for
bremsstrahlung from high-energy electrons in atomic field with the exact
account of this field. The consideration exploits the quasiclassical electron
Green's function and wave functions in an external electric field. It is shown
that the Coulomb corrections to the differential cross section are very
susceptible to screening. Nevertheless, the Coulomb corrections to the cross
section summed up over the final-electron states are independent of screening
in the leading approximation over a small parameter ( is
a screening radius, is the electron mass, ). Bremsstrahlung from
an electron beam of the finite size on heavy nucleus is considered as well.
Again, the Coulomb corrections to the differential probability are very
susceptible to the beam shape, while those to the probability integrated over
momentum transfer are independent of it, apart from the trivial factor, which
is the electron-beam density at zero impact parameter. For the Coulomb
corrections to the bremsstrahlung spectrum, the next-to-leading terms with
respect to the parameters ( is the electron energy) and

Use of Standardized Patient Scenarios to Train Medical Assistants in an Ambulatory Rehabilitation Medicine Clinic

To improve the efficiency of our outpatient Rehabilitation Medicine clinic without sacrificing high value/quality patient care.
To clarify the responsibilities of the MA and identify areas of redundancy in the rooming process.
To demonstrate the utility of in-situ simulation for MA training.
To reduce the time it takes for MAs to complete all assigned tasks to 10 minutes or less per encounter in at least 50% of patient encounters within two months from the time of intervention.

DE 1 RIMS operational characteristics
The Retarding Ion Mass Spectrometer (RIMS) on the Dynamics Explorer 1 spacecraft observes both the thermal and superthermal (50 eV) ions of the ionosphere and inner magnetosphere. It is capable of measuring the detailed species distribution function of these ions in many cases. It was equipped with an integral electrometer to permit in-flight calibration of the detector sensitivities and variations thereof. A guide to understanding the RIMS data set is given. The reduction process from count rates to physical quantities is discussed in some detail. The procedure used to establish in-flight calibration is described, and results of a comparison with densities from plasma wave measurements are provided. Finally, a discussion is provided of various anomalies in the data set, including changes of channeltron efficiency with time, spin modulation of the axial sensor heads, apparent potential differences between the sensor heads, and failures of the radial head retarding potential sweep and of the -Z axial head aperture plane bias. Studies of the RIMS data set should be conducted only with a thorough awareness of the material presented here, or in collaboration with one of the scientists actively involved with RIMS data analysis
Converting systematic reviews to Cochrane format: a cross-sectional survey of Australian authors of systematic reviews
BACKGROUND: Despite the growing reputation and subject coverage of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, many systematic reviews continue to be published solely in paper-based health care journals. This study was designed to determine why authors choose to publish their systematic reviews outside of the Cochrane Collaboration and if they might be interested in converting their reviews to Cochrane format for publication in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. METHODS: Cross-sectional survey of Australian primary authors of systematic reviews not published on the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews identified from the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness. RESULTS: We identified 88 systematic reviews from the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness with an Australian as the primary author. We surveyed 52 authors for whom valid contact information was available. The response rate was 88 per cent (46/52). Ten authors replied without completing the survey, leaving 36 valid surveys for analysis. The most frequently cited reasons for not undertaking a Cochrane review were: lack of time (78%), the need to undergo specific Cochrane training (46%), unwillingness to update reviews (36%), difficulties with the Cochrane process (26%) and the review topic already registered with the Cochrane Collaboration (21%). (Percentages based on completed responses to individual questions.) Nearly half the respondents would consider converting their review to Cochrane format. Dedicated time emerged as the most important factor in facilitating the potential conversion process. Other factors included navigating the Cochrane system, assistance with updating and financial support. Eighty-six per cent were willing to have their review converted to Cochrane format by another author. CONCLUSION: Time required to complete a Cochrane review and the need for specific training are the primary reasons why some authors publish systematic reviews outside of the Cochrane Collaboration. Encouragingly, almost half of the authors would consider converting their review to Cochrane format. Based on the current number of reviews in the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness, this could result in more than 700 additional Cochrane reviews. Ways of supporting these authors and how to provide dedicated time to convert systematic reviews needs further consideration
Search for low instability strip variables in the young open cluster NGC 2516
In this paper we revise and complete the photometric survey of the
instability strip of the southern open cluster NGC 2516 published by Antonello
and Mantegazza (1986). No variable stars with amplitudes larger than
were found. However by means of an accurate analysis based on a new statistical
method two groups of small amplitude variables have been disentangled: one with
periods (probably Scuti stars) and one with periods
. The position in the HR diagram and the apparent time-scale may
suggest that the stars of the second group belong to a recently discovered new
class of variables, named Dor variables. They certainly deserve
further study. We also present a comparison between the results of the
photometric survey and the available pointed ROSAT observations of this

Onset of transcription of the aminopeptidase N (leukemia antigen CD 13) gene at the crypt/villus transition zone during rabbit enterocyte differentiation
AbstractThe sequence of a cDNA clone (2.82 kbp) of rabbit intestinal aminopeptidase N (CD 13) is reported. Using the corresponding anti-sense RNA probe, the distribution of aminopeptidase N mRNA along the crypt/villus axis of the rabbit small intestine was studied by in situ hybridization. The aminopeptidase N gene is expressed along the whole length of the villus with a maximum at its base. Expression was not detected in the crypt cells. The distribution of aminopeptidase N mRNA correlates with the presence of active enzyme as monitored by histochemical staining. The results are compatible with onset of transcription of the aminopeptidase N gene at the crypt/villus transition zone during the enterocyte differentiation
Gluon Polarization in
We calculate the linear polarization of gluons radiated off top quarks
produced in e^+e^- annihilations. For typical top pair production energies at
the Next-Linear-Collider (NLC) the degree of linear polarization remains close
to its soft gluon value of 100% over almost the whole energy spectrum of the
gluon. The massive quark results are compared with the corresponding results

The Central Regions of M31 in the 3 - 5 micron Wavelength Region
Images obtained with NIRI on the Gemini North telescope are used to
investigate the photometric properties of the central regions of M31 in the 3 -
5 micron wavelength range. The light distribution in the central arcsecond
differs from what is seen in the near-infrared in the sense that the difference
in peak brigh tness between P1 and P2 is larger in M' than in K'; no obvious
signature of P3 is dete cted in M'. These results can be explained if there is
a source of emission that contributes ~ 20% of the peak M' light of P1 and has
an effective temperature of no more than a few hundred K that is located
between P1 and P2. Based on the red K-M' color of this source, it is suggested
that the emission originates in a circumstellar dust shell surrounding a single
bright AGB star. A similar bright source that is ~ 8 arcsec from the center of
the galaxy is also detected in M'. Finally, the (L', K-L') color-magnitude
diagram of unblended stars shows a domin ant AGB population with photometric
characteristics that are similar to those of the most luminous M giants in the
