Restoring Biblical Nurture in Christian Homes as a Panacea to Rejuvenating Christian Morality in Nigeria

    Get PDF
The incessant cases of moral failures in Nigeria have raised different camps of agitations among scholars. However, it appears that the stance of secularism, promoted by psychological, philosophical and social underpinnings have been given high premium, in breeding an efficient paradigm for human transformation and character formation than the biblical perception of it. Thus, Christian principles in promoting normative values of human behaviour has been somewhat abandoned in solving this multi-dimensional issue. The purpose of the study is to advance Christian model of morality for enhancing human behaviour in Nigeria. The paper adopts descriptive and phenomenological methods. The significance of this biblical perspective on morality becomes pronounced because of the wave of information, efficiency and dynamics it will promote among Christian families and the Nigerian society at large. The negligence of parents and inability to utilize Christian model of morality in the homes have aggravated the level of immorality in the society. The paper recommends that there should be appropriate application of the Bible for enhancing morality in Christian homes and the Nigerian society

English has a predominant status as a second language in Nigeria where it is learned and used in conjunction with the mother tongue. This paper assessed the pronominal errors in written English of tertiary institution. The aims of the study were to examine the kinds of pronominal errors in the written English of the L2 learners and ascertain the extent to which the errors are made. To this end, a descriptive survey research design was employed. Three hundred (300) Yoruba-English bilingual respondents were randomly selected from three tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. They wrote essays in English which were analyzed for the occurrence of pronominal errors using the Binding Principles. One hundred and sixty sentences were discovered in which the errors occurred. The analysis revealed the errors committed by respondents to include: lack of pronoun agreement; wrong insertion of pronouns; the use of pronouns without antecedents; and others. The study also advanced possible remediation to include, among others, assisting learners to internalize the systems of the language they are learning; understand those syntactic features which do not exist in, or, differ in some respects from those of their mother tongue; and so on.

English language is an important legacy bequeathed us by the colonial master. It has since become an important subject in school curriculum. Researchers have been keenly interested in its teaching and learning and proffering suggestion for improvement. The relationship between English Language and Literature-in-English as always been a controversial issue. To this end, this research is set to empirically establish the relationship, if any, between the performance of student in English Language and Literature-in-English at senior school certificate level. One senior school certificate results of student in English language and literature in English from seven secondary schools in Ikere Local Government of Ekiti State within five were used. Pearson (r) was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that there was high positive relationship between scores in English language and Literature in English in all selected schools.Conversely there was no significant relationship between the subjects’ scores in English Language and Literature in English language in the mixed schools. Likewise, there was positive significant relationship between students scores in English language and literature in English in the boys’ school, no significant relationship exist in the girls’ school. It is therefore recommended that students should be encouraged to develop interest in literature by reading novels. Teachers should also be interested in the teaching of literature as a integral part of language. The policy makers should make literature a compulsory subject in upper classes as obtained in junior secondary schools

The hydrochemistry of Angwan Mallam and environs (PART OF KEFFI SHEET 208 NE)

The rock types in the area are migmatite, granodiorite, pophyritic granodiorite, and biotite gneiss intruded by mineral bearing pegmatite dyke. The structural trend of the rocks conforms to the general pan-African Orogeny deformation trending NE - SW. Structures like fault, vein, joint and foliations were observed during the field mapping. Eleven water samples were collected from surface water and wells of the study area for physio-chemical analysis. The result of the water analysis shows the major cations, anions, and heavy element: Mg+, Ca2+, Na+, K+, SO42-, NO3-, Cl-,, HCO3 - , and Fe, Cu, Pb. The pH, temperature, electrical conductivities, acidity, alkalinity, total dissolved solid, and turbidity were determined. The cation, anion, and heavy element are majorly derived from leaching of the surrounding rocks and human activities influence as the mining activities in some of the villages does not contaminate or pollute its water, soil and wellbeing of the people living in Agwan mallam. The findings will be a benefit to Environmental Impact Assessment of Agwa mallam as the water in the area meets the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, Draft for National Standard for Drinking water, and World Health Organization guideline. @JASEMJ. A 35-day trial using 108 day broiler birds was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary inclusion of Groundnut pods into the diet of broiler birds on their performance characteristics . The birds were separated into 4 groups and further replicated 3 times in a completely randomized design and fed diets containing 0,5,10 and 15% levels of Groundnut pods as a replacement for maize in the control diet. The birds were adequately housed, while feed and water were supplied ad-libitum. Other standard management practices were adequately put in place. At the end of the trial, 4 bird were randomly sampled from each treatment and slaughtered to access carcass characteristics.  The results showed that there was no significant differences (P>0.05) in fed consumption and average weight gain between the different dietary treatments. Except for the relative weight of thigh and back which showed significant (P<0.05) differences between treatments other carcass characteristics were not significantly (P>0.05) affected. The relative organ weight showed no significant (P>0.05) difference based on the different dietary treatment except for the weight of the heart and lungs which showed significant (P<0.05) differences. The performance of senior secondary school students in English language has been dwindling for many years in Nigeria. The problems have been blamed on the way the teaching and learning of English are handled in the classroom by the teachers. Among the predominant teacher related factors that are adduced as of influencing students’ performance are teachers’ subject mastery and teachers’ questioning behaviour. In mainstream education, teachers had been acknowledged to have a great impact on student learning outcomes and so these factors call for a closer scrutiny. However this study was born from this premise that the teacher remains the first resource in teaching and learning processes and that no educational program can rise above the level of its teachers. To carry out the study, relevant literature considering the teacher related factors in English language teaching and learning process were reviewed and the descriptive research design of the survey type was adopted for the study. A total of 500 students and 10 teachers constituted the sample selected through simple random sampling procedure. The major instruments for the study were: Teachers’ Questioning Behaviours Observations Checklist (TQBOC), Teachers’ Subject Mastery Observation Checklist (TSMOC) and Achievement Test in English Language. (ATEL) Three research questions were raised and the results collected from the findings were collated and coded with descriptive statistics as well as multiple classification analysis. It was therefore revealed that there is (I) a positive relationship between teachers’ subject mastery and students’ performance in English language. It was also revealed in the study that teachers’ questioning behaviour is not a significant determinant of students’ learning outcomes in English language among senior secondary schools students in Ikere metropolis.
