    State reconstruction of finite dimensional compound systems via local projective measurements and one-way classical communication

    For a finite dimensional discrete bipartite system, we find the relation between local projections performed by Alice, and Bob post-selected state dependence on the global state submatrices. With this result the joint state reconstruction problem for a bipartite system can be solved with strict local projections and one-way classical communication.     Conservation law for distributed entanglement of formation and quantum discord

    We present a direct relation, based upon a monogamic principle, between entanglement of formation (EOF) and quantum discord (QD), showing how they are distributed in an arbitrary tripartite pure system. By extending it to a paradigmatic situation of a bipartite system coupled to an environment, we demonstrate that the EOF and the QD obey a conservation relation. By means of this relation we show that in the deterministic quantum computer with one pure qubit the protocol has the ability to rearrange the EOF and the QD, which implies that quantum computation can be understood on a different basis as a coherent dynamics where quantum correlations are distributed between the qubits of the computer. Furthermore, for a tripartite mixed state we show that the balance between distributed EOF and QD results in a stronger version of the strong subadditivity of entropy.Comment: Published versio

    Nematic liquid crystal dynamics under applied electric fields

    In this paper we investigate the dynamics of liquid crystal textures in a two-dimensional nematic under applied electric fields, using numerical simulations performed using a publicly available LIquid CRystal Algorithm (LICRA) developed by the authors. We consider both positive and negative dielectric anisotropies and two different possibilities for the orientation of the electric field (parallel and perpendicular to the two-dimensional lattice). We determine the effect of an applied electric field pulse on the evolution of the characteristic length scale and other properties of the liquid crystal texture network. In particular, we show that different types of defects are produced after the electric field is switched on, depending on the orientation of the electric field and the sign of the dielectric anisotropy.Comment: 7 pages, 12 figure

    We consider nonequilibrium probabilistic dynamics in logistic-like maps xt+1=1axtzx_{t+1}=1-a|x_t|^z, (z>1)(z>1) at their chaos threshold: We first introduce many initial conditions within one among W>>1W>>1 intervals partitioning the phase space and focus on the unique value qsen<1q_{sen}<1 for which the entropic form Sq1i=1Wpiqq1S_q \equiv \frac{1-\sum_{i=1}^{W} p_i^q}{q-1} {\it linearly} increases with time. We then verify that Sqsen(t)Sqsen()S_{q_{sen}}(t) - S_{q_{sen}}(\infty) vanishes like t1/[qrel(W)1]t^{-1/[q_{rel}(W)-1]} [qrel(W)>1q_{rel}(W)>1]. We finally exhibit a new finite-size scaling, qrel()qrel(W)Wqsenq_{rel}(\infty) - q_{rel}(W) \propto W^{-|q_{sen}|}. This establishes quantitatively, for the first time, a long pursued relation between sensitivity to the initial conditions and relaxation, concepts which play central roles in nonextensive statistical mechanics.Comment: Final version with new Title and small modifications.
