    An analysis of methods for aberrated spot diagram center evaluation

    The paper considers spot diagram center evaluation methods and errors depending on aberration type and value. The authors present the modified center of mass method which provides higher accuracy of center evaluation for spot diagram with coma. Error estimation methods involved using simulated spot diagram with symmetrical and non-symmetrical aberrations of the third and fifth order and their combinations. The error of center evaluation by the maximum value method and center of mass method is analyzed. The proposed modified center of mass method gives higher weight for pixels with higher intensity that leads to better sensitivity of the method and it is compared with other methods. The center of mass method can evaluate accurate center position only for coma-free spot diagram. The maximum value method cannot evaluate accurate center position for spot diagram with coma either and for coma-free spot diagram it can also produce larger errors than the center of mass method. The modified center of mass method is more robust and evaluates center for spot diagram with coma and other aberrations more accurately. The modified center of mass method shows higher accuracy while evaluating center of spot diagram with aberration, and hence higher accuracy of modulation transfer function evaluation by spot diagram. The precise evaluation of spot diagram center will also increase the convergence of the phase retrieval method with parametric optimization techniques

    In this paper, we present nomenclatural novelties required in the course of the preparation of the second, revised version of the checklist of vascular plants of Asian Russia. The first version was published in 2012 (Baikov 2012). At the family level, we accepted the modern classification systems (APG IV for flowering plants, PPG I for lycophytes and ferns, and GPG for gymnosperms). At the genus level, we follow the generic concepts applied for particular taxonomic groups according to the Catalogue of Life (COL; https://www.catalogueoflife.org/), version COL23.5. At the species level, we consistently apply the monotypic species concept (also known in Russia as Komarov’s concept). In total, this paper presents one new nothogenus name (× Sibirotrisetokoeleria Chepinoga nom. nov., Poaceae) and 156 new names in the rank of species, in 28 families: Amaranthaceae Juss. (1 name), Amaryllidaceae J. St.-Hil. (1), Apiaceae Lindl. (2), Asteraceae Bercht. & J.Presl (12), Boraginaceae Juss. (4), Caryophyllaceae Juss. (11), Crassulaceae J. St.-Hill. (3), Cyperaceae Juss.     Epidemiology of the vestibular schwannomas in Ukraine and our experience of surgical and radiosurgical treatment

    Aim: Figuring out the occurrence of vestibular schwannomas (VS) and their management tendencies in Ukraine.Materials and methods: Data about VS detection and treatment were collected among all Ukrainian neurosurgical and radiological facilities which are enrolled in providing care for these patients. Together with those who were treated overseas the total number in 2016-2018 was 903 people. There were 665 cases (73.6  %) treated surgically, 124 cases (13.8  %) irradiated and 114 (12.6  %) observed via serial imaging.Results: The prevalence of VS in Ukraine is about 7.27 per 1 million people which corresponds to data around the world (CBTRUS trial suggested VS incidence 10-20 people per 1 million during 2004-2009).Most of verified VSs were treated surgically (73.6  %), lesser part was irradiated (13.8  %) and 12.7 % were followed-up by wait-and-scan strategy. Our data regarding surgical management was higher than worldwide. At the same time, the volume of detected tumors was much larger in comparison to published data. Seventy-three per cent of all cases were Koos T4 tumors as a possible result of poor diagnosis and lack of alertness making surgical interventions more common and difficult.Total and subtotal resection rate was 79  % as the result of combined microsurgical and endoscopic techniques under intraoperative electrophysiological neuromonitoring guidance. The facial nerve was preserved in 94.2  % of cases, cochlear — in 8.5  % of cases. The average mortality rate during 2016-2018 in Ukraine was 3.1  % with 1.3  % in Subtentorial Neurooncology Department of the Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute.Conclusions: For further improvements and development of optimal management strategies for patients with VS, it is necessary to improve earlier diagnosis and reasonable to provide neurosurgical care in high-volume centers based on the profound expertise with further advances in technologies for functionally favorable outcomes

    Minimal information for studies of extracellular vesicles (MISEV2023): From basic to advanced approaches

    Extracellular vesicles (EVs), through their complex cargo, can reflect the state of their cell of origin and change the functions and phenotypes of other cells. These features indicate strong biomarker and therapeutic potential and have generated broad interest, as evidenced by the steady year-on-year increase in the numbers of scientific publications about EVs. Important advances have been made in EV metrology and in understanding and applying EV biology. However, hurdles remain to realising the potential of EVs in domains ranging from basic biology to clinical applications due to challenges in EV nomenclature, separation from non-vesicular extracellular particles, characterisation and functional studies. To address the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field, the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) updates its 'Minimal Information for Studies of Extracellular Vesicles', which was first published in 2014 and then in 2018 as MISEV2014 and MISEV2018, respectively. The goal of the current document, MISEV2023, is to provide researchers with an updated snapshot of available approaches and their advantages and limitations for production, separation and characterisation of EVs from multiple sources, including cell culture, body fluids and solid tissues. In addition to presenting the latest state of the art in basic principles of EV research, this document also covers advanced techniques and approaches that are currently expanding the boundaries of the field. MISEV2023 also includes new sections on EV release and uptake and a brief discussion of in vivo approaches to study EVs. Compiling feedback from ISEV expert task forces and more than 1000 researchers, this document conveys the current state of EV research to facilitate robust scientific discoveries and move the field forward even more rapidly

    Taxonomical features of stigmas of tribe Lithospermeae DC. (Boraginaceae) species in Asiatic Russia

    With the help of scanning electron microscopy, morphology of stigmas and shapes of papillae were studied for 11 species (from Asiatic Russia) of genera Lithospermum L., Buglossoides Moench, Cerinthe L., Echium L., and Onosma L., belonging to tribe Lithospermeae, and two species of the genus Botriospermum Bunge of unknown taxonomical affiliation in the family Boraginaceae. It was revealed that the shapes of the stigma and papillae can be useful for clarifying relationships among the species and genera, thus complementing the data for compiling a fuller and more correct taxonomy of the family Boraginaceae
