CaCu2(SeO3)2Cl2: spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain compound with complex frustrated interchain couplings

We report the crystal structure, magnetization measurements, and band-structure calculations for the spin-1/2 quantum magnet CaCu2(SeO3)2Cl2. The magnetic behavior of this compound is well reproduced by a uniform spin-1/2 chain model with the nearest-neighbor exchange of about 133 K. Due to the peculiar crystal structure, spin chains run in the direction almost perpendicular to the structural chains. We find an exotic regime of frustrated interchain couplings owing to two inequivalent exchanges of 10 K each. Peculiar superexchange paths grant an opportunity to investigate bond-randomness effects under partial Cl-Br substitution.Comment: Extended version: 9 pages, 7 figures, 4 table

Characteristics of the Defendant and the Victim in Forensic Rhetoric

Defendants’ and victims’ characteristic has always been an important part of forensic rhetoric in a jury trial. This research featured speeches by such famous Russian lawyers and prosecutors of the XIX century as F. N. Plevako, N. V. Muravyov, P. A. Aleksandrov, and A. F. Koni, who described the criminal and the victim in their speeches to offer the jury a general insight into the case and allow them to develop a legal and moral profile of the defendant and the complainant. The study introduces a theoretical and practical understanding of the rhetorical significance of this element of forensic speech as part of persuasion technique in a jury trial. The results obtained can be used as recommendations for practicing lawyers. The following axiological and semantic provisions can optimize the compilation of modern court speeches. 1. Negative description of the victim can make the jury distrust the victim’s statement, which is a positive factor for the defense. 2. If the lawyer manages to evoke compassion and pity for the victim, it may reduce the defendant's chances for an acquittal or mitigation. 3. Stories from the defendant’s childhood that reveal their character development give the speaker the opportunity to change the jury’s attitude. 4. A portrait given by individual qualities also makes it possible to form a necessary attitude to the personality of the defendant

The X-ray study of compound II was made possible due to M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University Programm of Development. PL thanks the University of St Andrews and EPSRC for DTA Studentships to CB and LJD.Two new rare-earth – alkali – tellurium oxide halides were synthesized by a salt flux technique and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structures of the new compounds Cs7Sm11[TeO3]12Cl16 (I) and Rb7Nd11[TeO3]12Br16 (II) (both tetragonal, space group I4/mcm) correspond to the sequence of [MLn11(TeO3)12] and [M6×16] layers and bear very strong similarities to those of known selenite analogs. We discuss the trends in similarities and differences in compositions and structural details between the Se and Te compounds; more members of the family are predicted.PostprintPeer reviewe

©2017 American Physical Society We present the synthesis and the experimental and theoretical study of the new member of the francisite family, Cu 3 Yb(SeO 3 ) 2 O 2 Cl. The compound reaches an antiferromagnetic order at T N = 36.7 K and experiences first-order spin-reorientation transition to weakly ferromagnetic phase at T R = 8.7 K evidenced in specific heat C p and magnetic susceptibility χ measurements. Distinctly different magnetization loops in T < T R and T R < T < T N temperature ranges reflect the interplay of rare-earth and transition-metal subsystems. At low temperatures, the saturation magnetization M s ∼ 5.2 μ B is reached in pulsed magnetic-field measurements. The electron spin resonance data reveal the complicated character of the absorption line attributed to response from both copper and ytterbium ions. Critical broadening of the linewidth at the phase transitions points to quasi-two-dimensional character of the magnetic correlations. The spectroscopy of Yb 3+ ions evidences splitting of the lowest-energy Kramers doublet of 2 F 5 / 2 excited multiplet at T R < T < T N while the ground Kramers doublet splits only at T < T R . We describe the magnetic properties both above and below the spin-reorientation transition in the framework of a unified approach based on the mean-field approximation and crystal-field calculations

То study the dynamics of the preventability of perinatal losses according to a large maternity hospital General Hospital using the Nordic-Baltic system taking into account the transition to WHO criteria. Materials were the 605 autopsy protocols of the dead fetuses and newborns in a maternity hospital major General Hospital (Novosibirsk) in the period from 2010 to 2013. Unavoidable losses during the study period of observation have a distinct downward trend, which is associated with improvements in prenatal diagnosis of congenital malformations and abortion up to 22 weeks. After the transition to WHO criteria in 2012 the indicators of perinatal losses increased due to category III relating to conditionally preventable losses, and categories, uniting the death of the newborn (VIII-XII category) related to preventable losses. After the transition to WHO criteria share of preventable losses reached more than 90%, which represents a significant decrease in perinatal mortality reserveЦель - изучить динамику предотвратимости перинатальных потерь по данным родильного дома крупной многопрофильной больницы при использовании Скандинавско-Балтийской системы с учетом перехода на критерии ВОЗ.

The paper presents an analysis of a prospective international standard SpaceFibre for on board data exchange for different types of aircraft. Paper provides the rationale for using of this standard for new generation on-board networks. The obtained results are based on many years of experience with the SpaceWire/SpaceFibre family of open international standards. The authors present the main problems of SpaceFibre, as well as ways to solve them. The first problem is related to the use of multi-channel data transmission in prospective Russian projects, as well as the need to increase throughput using existing equipment and physical cables. It is necessary to develop new transmission methods and algorithms and create a completely Russian version of the multilane level for the described standard. The second problem relates to the organization of data transmission in SpaceFibre networks with a large number of nodes and a complex scheme of data transfer flows, it is a consequence of an insufficiently developed network level of the standard. The authors give possible ways to solve the identified inconsistences of the standard using the concept of software-reconfigurable networks. The finalization of the SpaceFibre standard in terms of the discussed problems will improve the efficiency of the protocol itself, as well as take into account all possible comments before the stage of creating of a Russian State Standard for SpaceFibre

Synthesis, Structure, and Properties of [Hg6As4][YbBr6]Br, a Supramolecular Assembly Featuring a Discrete [YbBr6]3- Anion

    No full text
A novel supramolecular assembly [Hg6As4][YbBr6]Br has been prepared and its structure determined. It crystallizes in a cubic space group equation image, a = 12.362(1) Å, with Z = 4. The title compound is a bi-compartmental supramolecular architecture that is built of a three-dimensional [Hg6As4]4+ cationic framework trapping two types of guest anions, [YbBr6]3− and Br−, in a chessboard-like order. [Hg6As4][YbBr6]Br is a Curie-Weiss paramagnet with a magnetic moment of 4.47 μB, which reflects the localized character of the 4f13 electrons of Yb. Thus, the whole assembly behaves as a magnetically dilute compound

Given the unfavourable demographic situation in the Russian Federation today, giving birth to a healthy child is becoming a topical issue. This is so because the generation with poor health indicators is entering their childbearing period. The portrait of contemporary young woman can be described as follows: she has 2 or more chronic extragenital diseases (arterial hypertension, chronic pyelonephritis, cystitis, anemia), early initiation of sexual activity, frequently changing sexual partners (STD), failure to use contraceptives (abortions), weight deficit, and bad habits
