Bubbling Calabi-Yau geometry from matrix models
We study bubbling geometry in topological string theory. Specifically, we
analyse Chern-Simons theory on both the 3-sphere and lens spaces in the
presence of a Wilson loop insertion of an arbitrary representation. For each of
these three manifolds we formulate a multi-matrix model whose partition
function is the vev of the Wilson loop and compute the spectral curve. This
spectral curve is the reduction to two dimensions of the mirror to a Calabi-Yau
threefold which is the gravitational dual of the Wilson loop insertion. For
lens spaces the dual geometries are new. We comment on a similar matrix model
which appears in the context of Wilson loops in AdS/CFT.Comment: 30 pages; v.2 reference added, minor correction
A prediction for bubbling geometries
We study the supersymmetric circular Wilson loops in N=4 Yang-Mills theory.
Their vacuum expectation values are computed in the parameter region that
admits smooth bubbling geometry duals. The results are a prediction for the
supergravity action evaluated on the bubbling geometries for Wilson loops.Comment: 21 pages, latex; v.2 reference added; v.3 minor correction
Effect of FK506 in experimental organ transplantation.
FK506 is the most potent immunosuppressive agent known. Its toxicity is substantial in dogs, minor in rats, and unknown in subhuman primates. In small doses that are nontoxic even in dogs, it can be used in synergistic combination with cyclosporine, steroids, and presumably in other drugs
Finite Temperature Gauge Theory on Anisotropic Lattices
The finite temperature transition of QCD can be seen as a change in the
structure of the hadrons and as a symmetry breaking transition -- a change in
the structure of the vacuum. These phenomena are observed differently and carry
complementary information. We aim at a correlated analysis involving hadronic
correlators and the vacuum structure including field and density correlations,
both non-trivial questions.Comment: 3 pages, Talk presented at LATTICE96(finite temperature
BIons in topological string theory
When many fundamental strings are stacked together, they puff up into
D-branes. BIons and giant gravitons are the examples of such D-brane
configurations that arise from coincident strings. We propose and demonstrate
analogous transitions in topological string theory. Such transitions can also
be understood in terms of the Fourier transform of D-brane amplitudes.Comment: 21 pages; v.2 references added; v.3 reference added; v.4 minor

Structural and magnetic characterization of the complete delafossite solid solution (CuAlO2){1-x}(CuCrO2){x}
We have prepared the complete delafossite solid solution series between
diamagnetic CuAlO2 and the t2g^3 frustrated antiferromagnet CuCrO2. The
evolution with composition x in CuAl(1-x)Cr(x)O2 of the crystal structure and
magnetic properties has been studied and is reported here. The room-temperature
unit cell parameters follow the Vegard law and increase with x as expected. The
effective moment is equal to the Cr^3+ spin-only S = 3/2 value throughout the
entire solid solution. Theta is negative, indicating that the dominant
interactions are antiferromagnetic, and its magnitude increases with Cr
substitution. For dilute Cr compositions, J_BB was estimated by mean-field
theory to be 2.0 meV. Despite the sizable Theta, long-range antiferromagnetic
order does not develop until very large x, and is preceeded by glassy behavior.
Data presented here, and that on dilute Al-substitution from Okuda et al.,
suggest that the reduction in magnetic frustration due to the presence of
non-magnetic Al does not have as dominant an effect on magnetism as chemical
disorder and dilution of the magnetic exchange. For all samples, the 5 K
isothermal magnetization does not saturate in fields up to 5 T and minimal
hysteresis is observed. The presence of antiferromagnetic interactions is
clearly evident in the sub-Brillouin behavior with a reduced magnetization per
Cr atom. An inspection of the scaled Curie plot reveals that significant
short-range antiferromagnetic interactions occur in CuCrO2 above its Neel
temperature, consistent with its magnetic frustration. Uncompensated
short-range interactions are present in the Al-substituted samples and are
likely a result of chemical disorder
Orthotopic liver transplantation in dogs receiving FK-506.
Ten dogs that survived the perioperative events of liver transplantation were treated with 1 mg/kg/d oral FK. Eight of the recipients lived for at least 1 month postoperatively, and seven are still alive with normal hepatic function after 35 to 65 days. The consistency and good quality of results with this difficult transplant preparation using FK, in spite of its rumored great toxicity in dogs, have highlighted the importance of further developing the drug
Wilson Loops, Geometric Transitions and Bubbling Calabi-Yau's
Motivated by recent developments in the AdS/CFT correspondence, we provide
several alternative bulk descriptions of an arbitrary Wilson loop operator in
Chern-Simons theory. Wilson loop operators in Chern-Simons theory can be given
a description in terms of a configuration of branes or alternatively
anti-branes in the resolved conifold geometry. The representation of the Wilson
loop is encoded in the holonomy of the gauge field living on the dual brane
configuration. By letting the branes undergo a new type of geometric
transition, we argue that each Wilson loop operator can also be described by a
bubbling Calabi-Yau geometry, whose topology encodes the representation of the
Wilson loop. These Calabi-Yau manifolds provide a novel representation of knot
invariants. For the unknot we confirm these identifications to all orders in
the genus expansion.Comment: 26 pages; v.2 typos corrected, explanations clarified; v.3 typos

Systematic study of autocorrelation time in pure SU(3) lattice gauge theory
Results of our autocorrelation measurement performed on Fujitsu AP1000 are
reported. We analyze (i) typical autocorrelation time, (ii) optimal mixing
ratio between overrelaxation and pseudo-heatbath and (iii) critical behavior of
autocorrelation time around cross-over region with high statistic in wide range
of for pure SU(3) lattice gauge theory on , and
lattices. For the mixing ratio K, small value (3-7) looks optimal in the
confined region, and reduces the integrated autocorrelation time by a factor
2-4 compared to the pseudo-heatbath. On the other hand in the deconfined phase,
correlation times are short, and overrelaxation does not seem to matter For a
fixed value of K(=9 in this paper), the dynamical exponent of overrelaxation is
consistent with 2 Autocorrelation measurement of the topological charge on
lattice at = 6.0 is also briefly mentioned.Comment: 3 pages of A4 format including 7-figure
