    Momentum-dependence of charmonium spectral functions from lattice QCD

    We compute correlators and spectral functions for J/psi and eta_c mesons at nonzero momentum on anisotropic lattices with Nf=2. We find no evidence of significant momentum dependence at the current level of precision. In the pseudoscalar channel, the ground state appears to survive up to T~450MeV or 2.1T_c. In the vector channel, medium modifications may occur at lower temperatures.Comment: 5 pages, 12 figure

    We present results for the charmonium spectrum from Nf=2N_f=2 dynamical QCD simulations on 123×8012^3\times 80 anisotropic lattices.     Accurate Checks of Universality for Dyson's Hierarchical Model

    Using recently developed methods, we perform high-accuracy calculations of the susceptibility near beta_c for the D=3 version of Dyson's hierarchical model. Using linear fits, we estimate the leading gamma and subleading Delta exponents. Independent estimates are obtained by calculating the first two eigenvalues of the linearized renormalization group transformation. We found gamma = 1.29914073 (with an estimated error of 10^{-8}) and, Delta=0.4259469 (with an estimated error of 10^{-7}) independently of the choice of local integration measure (Ising or Landau-Ginzburg). After a suitable rescaling, the approximate fixed points for a large class of local measure coincide accurately with a fixed point constructed by Koch and Wittwer.Comment: 9 pages, Revtex, 1 figur

    Numerical Tests of the Improved Fermilab Action

    Recently, the Fermilab heavy-quark action was extended to include dimension-six and -seven operators in order to reduce the discretization errors. In this talk, we present results of the first numerical simulations with this action (the OK action), where we study the masses of the quarkonium and heavy-light systems. We calculate combinations of masses designed to test improvement and compare results obtained with the OK action to their counterparts obtained with the clover action.     Place attachment and perception of home under the impact of internal displacement in rural settlements of northern Cyprus

    Home, which is accepted as a centre for human life, can hold diverse significance and bear various meanings for each person depending on a variety of issues, such as personal characteristics and experiences that have been collected throughout a lifetime. The bond between a person and a home and the meaning of home can be transformed over time and as a result of the various events to which the person has been subjected. In this study, internal displacement is identified as an event which has a major impact on the key attitudes and feelings towards home attachment and perception. The aim of this research is to critically examine the impact of displacement on one’s attachment towards one’s former and current places of residence and one’s perception of home. The study takes Cyprus, in particular its northern part, as a case study. Therefore, the study contributes to the fields of home, place attachment and internal displacement studies in general, as well as to the context of Cyprus in particular. The study has investigated using qualitative and quantitative research approaches within a case study methodology. As a part of this, fieldwork research was conducted in four rural settlements located in northern Cyprus. The primary data was gathered during the fieldwork and constitutes the core of the study. Qualitative content analysis, including coding and categorisation, was used for analysing the qualitative data, while descriptive statistics, cross tabulation and the chi-square test were conducted for quantitative data analysis. The study focuses on two groups: locals and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Locals are identified as people who have always lived in northern Cyprus, while IDPs are defined as people who were displaced from southern Cyprus as an outcome of the conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. The study has identified the nature of local Turkish Cypriots’ attachment to their homes and villages, as well as the nature of internally displaced Turkish Cypriots’ attachment to their former and current houses and villages. In addition to this, perceptions of home for both locals and IDPs have been investigated in order to examine the extent to which IDPs have been affected by the displacement. The findings of the study show that displacement has a strong impact on the place attachment of IDPs. At the end of longstanding displacement they developed multiple attachments: attachment to the places where they used to live before displacement, as well as attachment to the places where they lived after displacement. However, compared to people who have not experienced displacement, IDPs have relatively low attachments; as a result, it may be argued that they are lost between two worlds. The study also shows that low attachment does not fully impact the meaning of home for IDPs in a long-term displacement situation. The study indicates that IDPs may feel attached to a place and give similar meanings to home as non-displaced people, but this does not mean that they completely perceive the houses where they live as their homes even after they have lived there for a long time. Length of displacement, political uncertainty and ownership issues which are directly related with perception of a house as one’s home, emerge as key determinants for attachment to and perception of home

    High-accuracy critical exponents of O(N) hierarchical sigma models

    We perform high-accuracy calculations of the critical exponent gamma and its subleading exponent for the 3D O(N) Dyson's hierarchical model, for N up to 20. We calculate the critical temperatures for the nonlinear sigma model measure. We discuss the possibility of extracting the first coefficients of the 1/N expansion from our numerical data. We show that the leading and subleading exponents agreewith Polchinski equation and the equivalent Litim equation, in the local potential approximation, with at least 4 significant digits.Comment: 4 pages, 2 Figs., uses revte

    Mucormycosis: 2 Case Report

    Mucormycosis is a rare, saprophytic, invasive and fulminant fungal disease. It is infective to patients with underlying immunocompromised conditions. We presented two cases of mucormycosis, one of which occured in the nose and the other on the auricle. A two-year-old female patient with diabetic ketoacidosis revealed necrosis and surrounding hyperemia in the nasal vestibule, nasal septum and dorsum of nose. A 17-year-old female diabetic patient had been suffering from black-colored lesion on the auricle. Physical examination presented necrosis on the auricle. Facial paralysis occured in the patient with auricular mucormycosis. Systemic amphotericin B was empirically administered after the sample was obtained for microbiologic and histopathologic examination in both patients. Necrotic tissues was also debrided in the second patient. The first patient died on the second day of treatment, and the second patient on the seventh day.
