Effect of electron-beam treatment on the properties of high speed steel

    Get PDF
Results of research influence of the modes of electron beam processing on structure and properties of P6M5 high-speed cutting steel are presented in article. On the basis of pilot studies, the optimum mode of electron beam processing of high-speed cutting steel is chosen. It is experimentally defined that after electron beam processing the microhardness of P6M5 high-speed cutting steel increases to 950 MPa and wear resistance increases to 1,3 times in comparison with initial material. It is established that electron beam processing allows receiving the modified layer with a high hardness and high resistance to abrasive wear. Substantial increase of microhardness and wear resistance of high-speed cutting steels after electron beam processing shows prospects of application of this way of processing for increase of operability of the cutting tools from high-speed cutting steels

Structure–activity relationship study on senktide for development of novel potent neurokinin-3 receptor selective agonists

    Get PDF
Neurokinin B (NKB) regulates the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in the hypothalamus via activation of the cognate neurokinin-3 receptor (NK3R). The stimulatory effect of NKB and the derivatives on gonadotropin secretion can potentially be used for development of novel regulatory and therapeutic agents for reproductive dysfunctions. Here, we report a comprehensive structure–activity relationship study on the NK3R-selective agonist peptide, senktide. Substitution of the N-terminal succinyl-Asp substructure in senktide with oxalyl-Glu, oxalyl-D-Glu or oxalyl-L-2-aminoadipic acid (Aad) increased receptor binding and NK3R activation. Among these modifications, the oxalyl-D-Glu substructure prevented neutral endopeptidase (NEP) 24.11-mediated degradation, thus providing a novel NK3R agonist peptide with favourable biological and stability properties

Two cytotoxic squalene-derived polyethers from the Japanese red alga Chondria armata

    Get PDF
The red alga Chondria armata is known to produce and contain a rich diversity of secondary metabolites, such as domoic acid-related alkaloids and triterpene polyethers. Our investigation on red alga C. armata from Kagoshima coast, Japan, resulted in the isolation of two new triterpene polyethers, bandokorols A (1) and B (2). The structures of these compounds were determined based on spectroscopic data such as infrared (FTIR), 1H-NMR, APT, 1H–1H-COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY and FAB mass spectrometry (HRFABMS). The anticancer potentials of these compounds were tested against adult T-cell leukaemia (ATL), S1T cells and their IC50 values are reported here

A large cavernous malformation of the third ventricle floor: A case report

    Get PDF
Suprasellar and third ventricular region cavernous malformations originating from the floor of the third ventricle are extremely rare. We report a case of third ventricular cavernous malformation arising from the ventricle floor in a 24-year-old woman who presented with short-term memory loss and disorientation. Computed tomography revealed a suprasellar mass with calcification in the posterior chiasmatic region. T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass with heterogeneous intensity and without hydrocephalus. The mass was slightly enhanced subsequent to gadolinium infusion. Using a basal interhemispheric translamina terminalis approach and a neuroendoscope, we confirmed that the tumor was located at the floor of the third ventricle and removed it. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of cavernous malformation. The postoperative course was uneventful, but the patient's short-term memory loss persisted. Despite its rarity, cavernous malformation should be suspected when a tumor is detected in the vicinity of the third ventricle floor. It is treatable through surgical resection

Composition and Monthly Changes of the Volatile Constituents in the Sour Hetsuka-daidai Citrus Peel

    Get PDF
Sour citrus are prized for their flavor and fragrance. This work identified the components of the peel oil of Hetsuka-daidai (Citrus sp. hetsukadaidai), a special sour citrus that is native to the southern part of the Osumi peninsula, Kagoshima, Japan. These compounds were compared to those identified from the peels of six other major sour citrus: lime (Citrus latifolia), lemon (Citrus limon), Yuzu (Citrus junos), Kabusu (Citrus aurantium), Kabosu (Citrus sphaerocarpa), and Sudachi (Citrus sudachi). Peel oil contents were analyzed for the duration of four months during harvest season to investigate the differences in peel oil/ fragrance during ripening. These results could facilitate the development of preferred flavor and scent profiles using local species

Aaptamine-related alkaloid from the marine sponge Aaptos aaptos

A new aaptamine-related alkaloid, 1,3-dioxolo [4,5-d] benzo [de]-1,6-naphthyridine (methylenedioxyaaptamine, 1), was isolated from the organic extracts of the Bornean marine sponge Aaptos aaptos, together with a known aaptamine derivative, 8,9,9-trimethoxy-9H-benzo [de]-1,6-naphthyridine (2). The structure of compound 1 was elucidated by interpretation of its spectroscopic data. Two compounds were tested for their cytotoxic potentials against adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) cells, and compound 1 showed moderate cytotoxic potential
