    An Assessment of Tire-Buying Among Millennial Consumers

    This study first examines general purchasing trends among millennial consumers before digging into the perceptions that millennial consumers have of the tire-purchasing experience. Our initial hypothesis was that the negative view of tire-purchasing held by many millennial age consumers was driven by the difficulty of the process itself. Through our own research, we discovered that it is the perceptions held by those who have not yet purchased tires rather than the reality of the purchasing experience that is the issue

    95 MeV neutron scattering on hydrogen, deuterium, carbon, and oxygen

    Three neutron-deuteron scattering experiments at 95 MeV have been performed recently at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala. Subsets of the results of these experiments have been reported in two short articles, showing clear evidence for three-nucleon force effects. In this paper, we present a more detailed description of the experimental methods as well as further discussion of the results. In addition to neutron-deuteron scattering data, neutron-proton and 12 C(n, n) elastic scattering data have been measured for normalization purposes, and 16 O (n, n) data have been obtained for the first time at this energy. It was possible to extract 12 C(n, n )and 16 O (n, n ) inelastic scattering cross sections to excited states below 12 MeV excitation energy. The inelastic scattering data (for both carbon and oxygen) are shown to have a significant impact on the determination ofnuclear recoil kerma coefficients

    Scandal - A Facility For Elastic Neutron Scattering Studies in the 50-130 MeV Range

    A facility for detection of scattered neutrons in the energy interval 50−130 MeV, SCANDAL (SCAttered Nucleon Detection AssembLy), is part of the standard detection system at the 20-180 MeV neutron beam facility of the The Svedberg Laboratory, Uppsala. It has primarily been used for studies of elastic neutron scattering, but it has been employed for (n,p) and (n,d) reaction experiments as well. Results of recent experiments are presented to illustrate the performance of the spectrometer. Recently, the facility has been upgraded to perform also (n,Xn') experiments. For this purpose, a new converter, CLODIA, has been developed and installed. Preliminary results of the commissioning of CLODIA will be presented

    Neutron-induced Light Ion Production From Fe, Pb And U At 96 Mev

    Double-differential cross sections for light-ion production (up to A=4) induced by 96 MeV neutrons have been measured for nat^{nat}Fe, nat^{nat}Pb and nat^{nat}U. The experiments have been performed at the The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala, using two independent devices, MEDLEY and SCANDAL. The recorded data cover a wide angular range (20Âș - 160Âș) with low energy thresholds. The work was performed within the HINDAS collaboration studying three of the most important nuclei for incineration of nuclear waste with accelerator-driven systems (ADS). The obtained cross section data are of particular interest for the understanding of the so-called pre-equilibrium stage in a nuclear reaction and are compared with model calculations performed with the GNASH, TALYS and PREEQ code

    Neurotrophins and neurotrophin receptors in pulmonary sarcoidosis - granulomas as a source of expression

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Pulmonary sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease, characterized by an accumulation of CD4<sup>+ </sup>lymphocytes and the formation of non-caseating epithelioid cell granulomas in the lungs. The disease either resolves spontaneously or develops into a chronic disease with fibrosis. The neurotrophins nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) have been suggested to be important mediators of inflammation and mediate tissue remodelling. In support of this, we have recently reported enhanced NGF levels in the airways of patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis. However, less is known about levels of BDNF and NT-3, and moreover, knowledge in the cellular sources of neurotrophins and the distribution of the corresponding neurotrophin receptors in airway tissue in sarcoidosis is lacking.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The concentrations of NGF, BDNF and NT-3 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of 41 patients with newly diagnosed pulmonary sarcoidosis and 27 healthy controls were determined with ELISA. The localization of neurotrophins and neurotrophin receptors were examined by immunohistochemistry on transbronchial lung biopsies from sarcoidosis patients.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The sarcoidosis patients showed significantly enhanced NT-3 and NGF levels in BALF, whereas BDNF was undetectable in both patients and controls. NT-3 levels in BALF were found higher in patients with non-Löfgren sarcoidosis as compared to patients with Löfgren's syndrome, and in more advanced disease stage. Epithelioid cells and multinucleated giant cells within the sarcoid granulomas showed marked immunoreactivity for NGF, BDNF and NT-3. Also, immunoreactivity for the neurotrophin receptor TrkA, TrkB and TrkC, was found within the granulomas. In addition, alveolar macrophages showed positive immunoreactivity for NGF, BDNF and NT-3 as well as for TrkA, TrkB and TrkC.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This study provides evidence of enhanced neurotrophin levels locally within the airways of patients with sarcoidosis. Findings suggest that sarcoid granuloma cells and alveolar macrophages are possible cellular sources of, as well as targets for, neurotrophins in the airways of these patients.</p
