On the Nature of AX J2049.6+2939 and AX J2050.0+2914
AX J2049.6+2939 is a compact X-ray source in the vicinity of the southern
blow-up region of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant (Miyata et al. 1998a). This
source was the brightest X-ray source inside the
Cygnus Loop observed during the ASCA survey project. The X-ray spectrum was
well fitted by a power-law function with a photon index of . Short-term timing analysis was performed and no coherent pulsation
was found. Follow-up observations with ASCA have revealed a large variation in
X-ray intensity by a factor of 50, whereas the spectral shape did not
change within the statistical uncertainties. In the second ASCA observation, we
found another X-ray source, AX J2050.0+2941, at the north east of AX
J2049.6+2939. During the three ASCA observations, the X-ray intensity of AX
J2050.0+2941 varied by a factor of 4. No coherent pulsations could be
found for AX J2050.0+2941.
We have performed optical photometric and spectroscopic observations in the
vicinity of AX J2049.6+2939 at the Kitt Peak National Observatory
(KPNO). As a result, all objects brighter than -band magnitude of 22 in
the error box can be identified with normal stars. Combined with the
X-ray results and the fact that there are no radio counterparts, AX
J2049.6+2939 is not likely to be either an ordinary rotation-powered pulsar
or an AGN. The nature of AX J2049.6+2939 is still unclear and further
observations over a wide energy band are strongly required.
As to AX J2050.0+2941, the long-term X-ray variability and the radio

Zinc in Cardiovascular Functions and Diseases: Epidemiology and Molecular Mechanisms for Therapeutic Development
Zinc is an essential trace element that plays an important physiological role in numerous cellular processes. Zinc deficiency can result in diverse symptoms, such as impairment of the immune response, skin disorders, and impairments in cardiovascular functions. Recent reports have demonstrated that zinc acts as a signaling molecule, and its signaling pathways, referred to as zinc signals, are related to the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular functions. Therefore, comprehensive understanding of the significance of zinc-mediated signaling pathways is vital as a function of zinc as a nutritional component and of its molecular mechanisms and targets. Several basic and clinical studies have reported the relationship between zinc level and the onset and pathology of cardiovascular diseases, which has attracted much attention in recent years. In this review, we summarize the recent findings regarding the effects of zinc on cardiovascular function. We also discuss the importance of maintaining zinc homeostasis in the cardiovascular system and its therapeutic potential as a novel drug target
VIBRATIONAL SATELLITES IN THE ROTATIONAL SPECTRA OF -CAPROLACTAM AND CYCLOHEXANONE OXIME

The rotational and centrifugal distortion constants of these species have been obtained. Then the molecular conformations of the molecules were completely determined. Three and two types of the excited vibrational satellites were observed for -caprolactam and cyclohexanone oxime, respectively. The vibrational wavenumbers have been estimated from the relative intensity measurements of the absorption lines. They are 58(15) cm, 105(25) cm and 237(29) cm for -caprolactam and 97(28) cm and 198(35) cm for cyclohexanone oxime (The errors in parentheses are one standard deviation). Then the assignments of the vibrational modes will be discussed by comparing the experimental and theoretical wavenumbers
Nosocomial Outbreak of Serious Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis (Kennel Cough) Caused by Canine Herpesvirus Infection▿
Canine herpesvirus (CHV; Canid herpesvirus 1) is principally a perinatal pathogen of pregnant bitches and newborn pups and secondarily a respiratory tract pathogen of older pups and dogs. Infectious disease of the canine respiratory tract frequently occurs among dogs in groups, in which it is called “ infectious tracheobronchitis” (ITB). Mortality from ITB is generally negligible, and the clinical importance of CHV as an ITB pathogen is considered to be low. The present report describes a novel ITB outbreak accompanied by death among aged dogs in an animal medical center. Most inpatient dogs had received medications that could induce immunosuppression. CHV was the only pathogen identified, and several CHV isolates were recovered in cell culture. No other viral pathogens or significant bacterial pathogens were found. Molecular and serological analyses revealed that the causative CHV isolates were from a single source but that none was a peculiar strain when the strains were compared with previous CHV strains. The virus had presumably spread among the dogs predisposed to infection in the center. The present results serve as a warning to canine clinics that, under the specific set of circumstances described, such serious CHV outbreaks may be expected wherever canine ITB occurs
