A tableau-like proof procedure for normal modal logics

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this paper a new proof procedure for some propositional and first-order normal modal logics is given. It combines a tableau-like approach and a resolution-like inference. Completeness and decidability for some propositional logics are proved. An extension for the first-order case is presented

A Logic with Kolmogorov Style Conditional Probabilities ā‹†

Abstract. In this paper we investigate a probability logic with conditional probability operators. The logic (denoted LP P) allows making statements such as CPā‰„s(Ī± | Ī²), with the intended meaning ā€the conditional probability of Ī± given Ī² is at least sā€. Conditional probabilities are P (Ī±āˆ§Ī²) P (Ī²) defined in the usual Kolmogorv style: P (Ī± | Ī²) = , P (Ī²)> 0. A possible-world approach is used to give semantics to probability formulas. An infinitary axiomatic system for our logic is given and the corresponding strong completeness theorem is proved. It is proved that the logic is decidable.

Framework for Optimal Selection Using Metaā€Heuristic Approach and AHP Algorithm

Many realā€life decisions are focused on selecting the most preferable combination of available options, by satisfying different kinds of preferences and internal or external constraints and requirements. Focusing on the wellā€known analytical hierarchical process (AHP) method and its extension CSā€AHP for capturing different kinds of preferences over twoā€layered structure (including conditionally defined preferences and preferences about dominant importance), we propose a twoā€layered framework for identifying stakeholdersā€™ decision criteria requirements and employ metaā€heuristic algorithms (i.e., genetic algorithms) to optimally make a selection over available options. The proposed formal twoā€layered framework, called OptSelectionAHP, provides the means for optimal selection based on specified different kinds of preferences. The framework has simultaneously proven optimality applied in software engineering domain, for optimal configuration of business process families where stakeholdersā€™ preferences are defined over quality characteristics of available services (i.e., QoS attributes). Furthermore, this domain of application is characterized with uncertainty and variability in selection space, which is proven and does not significantly violate the optimality of the proposed framework

    Probabilistic justification logic

We present a probabilistic justification logic, PPJā , as a framework for uncertain reasoning about rational belief, degrees of belief and justifications. We establish soundness and strong completeness for PPJ with respect to the class of so-called measurable Kripke-like models and show that the satisfiability problem is decidable. We discuss how PPJ provides insight into the well-known lottery paradox

Heat transfer and lubrication of turboshaft motor-reducer

Turboshaft engines, as the rule, contains gear transmission unit - reducer and belong to the group of drive systems with the name motor-reducer. These are the compact and autonomous assemblies for various applications. In the case of turboshaft engine in combination with high speed reducer, arise the set of phenomenon which has to be solved. Majority of them are in relation to reducer protection of overheating and of gears and bearings failures. The article contains analysis of heat sources, heat transfer through design structure and heat taking out in order to maintain acceptable temperature level of reducer lubricant. Theoretical discussions are supported with various experimental results and testing procedures, including analytic calculations. The set of design solutions for reducer protection when reducer located in the area of hot gas flow, is the main content. The case study is innovative design of turboshaft motor-reducer with free turbine which provides flexible operation and compact design structure

Exploring the impact of employer brand attributes on financial performance: an intellectual capital perspective

    Get PDF
Purpose: The employer brand is a crucial intangible asset for companies as it enhances the employerā€“employee relationship, leading to improved employee performance and overall company outcomes. This paper aims to investigate the contribution of the employer brand to the financial results of companies in southern Europe. Design/methodology/approach: The sample consists of 266 companies operating in southern European countries during the year 2020. Secondary data on employer brand attributes, assessed from the perspective of current employees, were collected from the Glassdoor platform. Financial indicators were obtained from the companies\u27 annual financial reports. The research hypotheses were tested using regression analysis. Findings: The results of the regression analysis support the notion that the employer brand contributes to profitability indicators and management effectiveness indicators of southern European companies. However, the study did not find evidence supporting the contribution of the employer brand to market indicators and financial structure indicators of the observed companies. Originality/value: This study is one of the first empirical investigations to assess the role of the employer brand as a human capital tool for enhancing the financial performance of companies in southern Europe. The study examines employer brand attributes from the perspective of current employees, who actively participate in shaping the employer brand and the company\u27s image. In contrast to prior research, this study incorporates a more extensive set of financial indicators, categorized into four groups: profitability indicators, management effectiveness indicators, market indicators and financial structure indicators
