The project was initiated towards development of new technologies for improving farming practices, post-harvest handling and value addition for indigenous vegetables, which offer great opportunities for food security and economic empowerment of a poor rural population, and especially resource-poor women farmers. The 1405 participating farmers have since organized and registered as 22 cooperative groups with women included in top executive positions. The project also succeeded in strengthening the capacity and capability of technical and scientific staff at both Nigerian and Canadian Institutions. A comprehensive agenda to support indigenous vegetables production, utilization and processing is being prepared
