    RoboCup 2D Soccer Simulation League: Evaluation Challenges

    We summarise the results of RoboCup 2D Soccer Simulation League in 2016 (Leipzig), including the main competition and the evaluation round. The evaluation round held in Leipzig confirmed the strength of RoboCup-2015 champion (WrightEagle, i.e. WE2015) in the League, with only eventual finalists of 2016 competition capable of defeating WE2015. An extended, post-Leipzig, round-robin tournament which included the top 8 teams of 2016, as well as WE2015, with over 1000 games played for each pair, placed WE2015 third behind the champion team (Gliders2016) and the runner-up (HELIOS2016). This establishes WE2015 as a stable benchmark for the 2D Simulation League. We then contrast two ranking methods and suggest two options for future evaluation challenges. The first one, "The Champions Simulation League", is proposed to include 6 previous champions, directly competing against each other in a round-robin tournament, with the view to systematically trace the advancements in the League. The second proposal, "The Global Challenge", is aimed to increase the realism of the environmental conditions during the simulated games, by simulating specific features of different participating countries.Comment: 12 pages, RoboCup-2017, Nagoya, Japan, July 201

    An enterprising phoenix: materiality, affect and learning

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore how workers experience planned and unplanned change(s), how the effects of change endure in organizations and the entanglement (Gherardi, 2015) of materiality, affect and learning. Design/methodology/approach: Research design is ethnographic in nature and draws from 30 semi-structured interviews of workers in an Australian organization. Interviews were designed to elicit narrative accounts (stories) of challenges and change faced by the workers. Desktop research of organizational documents and material artefacts complemented interview data. Analysis is informed by socio-material understandings and, in particular, the ideas of materiality, affect and learning. Findings: Change, in the form of a fire, triggered spontaneous and surprisingly positive affectual and organizational outcomes that exceeded earlier attempts at restructuring work. In the wake of the material tragedy of the fire in one organization, what emerged was a shift in the workers and the practices of the organization. Their accounts emphasized challenges, excitement and renewal, which prompt reconsideration of learning at work, in particular the entanglement of affect, materiality and learning in times of change.     Evidence of Plasmonic Induced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production on Pd/TiO2 Upon Deposition on Thin Films of Gold

    H2-production from renewables using sunlight is probably the holy grail of modern science and technology. Among the many approaches for increasing reaction rates, by increasing light absorption, plasmonic materials are often invoked. Yet, most plasmonic metals on semiconductors are also good for Schottky barrier formation. In this work, we are presenting evidences of de-coupling the plasmonic from Schottky effects on photoreaction. To conduct this we have systematically changed the under-layer gold film thickness and associated particle size. On top of the thin film layer, we have deposited the exact amount of a prototypical Schottky-based photo-catalyst (Pd/TiO2). We found up to 4 times increase in the H2-production rate at a critical Au film thickness (8 nm-thick). Below this thickness, the plasmonic response is not too strong while above it, the PR decays in favor of the Drude absorption mode. The reaction requires the presence of both UV (to excite the semiconductor) and visible light (to excite Au particles) in order to obtain high hydrogen production, 800 µmol/gCatal.min (probably the highest direct hydrogen (not current) production rate reported on a performing catalyst). The enhancement origin is quantitatively traced to its computed electric field strength (EFS). Adding a dielectric (SiO2) in between the Au thin layer and the catalyst exponentially decreased the reaction rate and EFS, with increasing its thickness. This work indicates the possibility of making an active and stable photo-catalyst from fundamental concepts yet further progress on the structural (technological) front is needed to make a practical catalyst

    Harmonic mitigation and power quality improvement in utility grid with solar energy penetration using distribution static compensator

    Abstract Distribution static compensator is based on power electronic devices technology which is utilized to supply rapid changes in active power as well as reactive power of utility grids. This is useful to achieve corrections in power factor, balancing of load, compensation of current and filtering of harmonics. Therefore, proposed work investigates the improvement of the power quality by utilizing the distribution static compensator, which is equipped by battery energy storage system and interfaced to distribution network with solar photo voltaic (PV) energy integration. In the present study, distribution static compensator is controlled using a control strategy based on the synchronous reference frame theory. Customised IEEE‐13 nodes test system incorporating solar PV generation and distribution static compensator, is utilized to perform the harmonic mitigation and power quality analysis. Disturbances of power quality and harmonics have been investigated due to abrupt changes in the insolation of solar radiation, outage of PV plant from grid and synchronization of PV plant to grid. MATLAB/Simulink environment is utilized to perform the study. Effectiveness of a developed approach is validated by comparing results of simulation with results extracted in real time using real time digital simulator. Results indicate that the developed method is more effective for harmonic mitigation and improving power quality of electrical power in distribution network integrated with solar PV generation. Performance of the approach is compared with the performance of methods reported in the literature to establish the suitability of the method for harmonics mitigation and power quality improvement in grid with solar energy

    Post-tuberculous fibrosing mediastinitis: a review of the literature.

    Fibrosing mediastinitis (FM) is a rare disease where there is thickening of the fibrous tissue in the mediastinum. While histoplasmosis is the the most common recognised cause, the link with tuberculosis (TB) has been rarely documented. We review the link between TB and FM, and describe a case of probable TB-related FM.Our case is of a 74-year-old man who presented with breathlessness 3 years after fully treated TB. Scans revealed a calcified soft tissue mass within the mediastinum, and a diagnosis of fibrosing mediastinitis resulting in pulmonary hypertension was made. Tests for histoplasmosis and IgG4 staining were negative. Surgical intervention was not felt to be beneficial, and he was treated with prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil.In the review, we highlight the two forms of mediastinitis-granulomatous versus fibrous, and how these two entities may be on a spectrum of disease progression.     Metal Halide Perovskites for Solar-to-Chemical Fuel Conversion

    This review article presents and discusses the recent progress made in the stabilization, protection, improvement, and design of halide perovskite‐based photocatalysts, photoelectrodes, and devices for solar‐to‐chemical fuel conversion. With the target of water splitting, hydrogen iodide splitting, and CO2 reduction reactions, the strategies established for halide perovskites used in photocatalytic particle‐suspension systems, photoelectrode thin‐film systems, and photovoltaic‐(photo)electrocatalysis tandem systems are organized and introduced. Moreover, recent achievements in discovering new and stable halide perovskite materials, developing protective and functional shells and layers, designing proper reaction solution systems, and tandem device configurations are emphasized and discussed. Perspectives on the future design of halide perovskite materials and devices for solar‐to‐chemical fuel conversion are provided. This review may serve as a guide for researchers interested in utilizing halide perovskite materials for solar‐to‐chemical fuel conversion

    Wilson\u27s disease: experience at a tertiary care hospital.

    Wilson\u27s disease (WD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. Data regarding WD is not available from Pakistan. A cross-sectional study was conducted at The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, and all patients admitted with primary and secondary diagnosis of Wilson\u27s disease were added. A total of 47 patients were seen; 68% (n = 32) were male. The mean age was 26.6 ± 9.97 years. Most of the patients presented with hepatic, (n = 22, 46.8%), neurological, (n = 17, 36.2%) and psychiatric (n = 8, 17%) symptoms. Mean ceruloplasmin level was 0.17 ± 0.13 g/dl; it was \u3c 0.25 g/dl in 39 (86.6%) patients. Serum copper (Cu) was reduced in 32 (68.1%) patients and 24-hr-urinary Cu was raised in 22 (47.6%) patients. Slit lamp examination for Kayser-Fleischer (KF) rings was done on 15 (31.9%) patients and 9 (60%) of them had KF rings. Mean serum aspartate transaminase (AST) / alanine transaminases (ALT) ratio was 1.92 and median alkaline phosphatase / total bilirubin ratio was 79.30 (IQR 35.05; 166.50)

      In recent years, an increasing emphasis on aesthetics has driven heightened demand in the field of restorative dentistry. This demand is closely linked to the interproximal papilla, the gum tissue located between adjacent teeth, which plays a critical role in both esthetics and oral function. Loss of papillary tissue can result from various factors such as periodontal disease, surgical procedures, plaque buildup, improper tooth shape, or spacing between teeth. Maintaining healthy papilla necessitates factors like adequate osseous support, a well-defined gingival scallop, and appropriate contact points. Management approaches include non-surgical methods such as improved hygiene techniques, restorative procedures, and orthodontic interventions, as well as surgical techniques that focus on papilla preservation or reconstruction. However, long-term predictability remains a challenge. This review article delves into the factors influencing papilla presence, the consequences of papillary loss, and the diverse strategies available to address black triangles in restorative dentistry. Recognizing the critical nature of papillary tissue preservation and reconstruction during dental procedures is paramount. By shedding light on these aspects, this article aims to enhance clinicians' and dentists' awareness, ultimately leading to improved clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in terms of esthetics, function, and overall oral health
