Production of Welding Fluxes Using Waste Slag Formed in Silicomanganese Smelting
The possibility in principle of using slag, which is formed in the silicon-manganese smelting process, in producing welding fluxes is shown. The composition of and technology used for a new fused flux has been designed. A comparative evaluation of the new flux and the widely used AN-348 type flux was done. It has been proved that the new flux has high strength properties
Optical alignment and orientation of excitons in ensemble of core/shell CdSe/CdS colloidal nanoplatelets
We report on the experimental and theoretical studies of optical alignment
and optical orientation effects in an ensemble of core/shell CdSe/CdS colloidal
nanoplatelets. The dependences of three Stokes parameters on the magnetic field
applied in the Faraday geometry are measured under continuous wave resonant
excitation of the exciton photoluminescence. Theoretical model is developed to
take into account both bright and dark exciton states in the case of strong
electron and hole exchange interaction and random in-plane orientation of the
nanoplatelets in ensemble. The data analysis allows us to estimate the time and
energy parameters of the bright and dark excitons. The optical alignment effect
enables identification of the exciton and trion contributions to the
photoluminescence spectrum even in the absence of a clear spectral line
resolution.Comment: main paper (17 pages) and SI (6 pages

Measurement of the cross section with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 collider
The process has been studied in the
center-of-mass energy range from 1500 to 2000\,MeV using a data sample of 23
pb collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 collider.
Using about 24000 selected events, the cross
section has been measured with a systematic uncertainty decreasing from 11.7\%
at 1500-1600\,MeV to 6.1\% above 1800\,MeV. A preliminary study of
production dynamics has been performed
Study of the process in the c.m. energy range from threshold to 2 GeV with the CMD-3 detector
Using a data sample of 6.8 pb collected with the CMD-3 detector at the
VEPP-2000 collider we select about 2700 events of the process and measure its cross section at 12 energy ponts with about
6\% systematic uncertainty. From the angular distribution of produced nucleons
we obtain the ratio
Hydrogen and chlorine abundances in the Kimberley formation of Gale crater measured by the DAN instrument on board the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover
The Dynamic Albedo of Neutron (DAN) instrument on board the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover acquired a series of measurements as part of an observational campaign of the Kimberley area in Gale crater. These observations were planned to assess the variability of bulk hydrogen and neutron‐absorbing elements, characterized as chlorine‐equivalent concentration, in the geologic members of the Kimberley formation and in surface materials exposed throughout the area. During the traverse of the Kimberley area, Curiosity drove primarily over the “Smooth Hummocky” unit, a unit composed primarily of sand and loose rocks, with occasional stops at bedrock of the Kimberley formation. During the Kimberley campaign, DAN detected ranges of water equivalent hydrogen (WEH) and chlorine‐equivalent concentrations of 1.5–2.5 wt % and 0.6–2 wt %, respectively. Results show that as the traverse progressed, DAN observed an overall decrease in both WEH and chlorine‐equivalent concentration measured over the sand and loose rocks of the Smooth Hummocky unit. DAN measurements of WEH and chlorine‐equivalent concentrations in the well‐exposed sedimentary bedrock of the Kimberley formation show fluctuations with stratigraphic position. The Kimberley campaign also provided an opportunity to compare measurements from DAN with those from the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) and the Alpha‐Particle X‐ray Spectrometer (APXS) instruments. DAN measurements obtained near the Windjana drill location show a WEH concentration of ~1.5 wt %, consistent with the concentration of low‐temperature absorbed water measured by SAM for the Windjana drill sample. A comparison between DAN chlorine‐equivalent concentrations measured throughout the Kimberley area and APXS observations of corresponding local surface targets and drill fines shows general agreement between the two instruments

The effect of tillage system and fertilization on corn yield and water use efficiency in irrigated conditions of the South of Ukraine
Efficient water management in agriculture is an important part of the general programme on water resources preservation. This study is devoted to the determination of the effects of soil processing system and mineral fertilization on the water use efficiency and productivity of grain corn (Zea mays Linnaeus, 1753). The trials were conducted in 2017–2018 on irrigated land in the South of Ukraine. The field experiments were carried out on the experimental plots of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the NAAS in four replications. We studied the following agrotechnological parameters and their combinations: Factor A – primary tillage type and depth within different tillage systems in the short crop rotation (grain corn – grain sorghum – winter wheat – soybean); Factor B – application rates of mineral fertilizers (N0P0, N120P60, N180P60). We established that the highest yield of grain accompanied by the best water use efficiency was provided by the cultivation technology with disk cultivator tillage on the depth of 8–10 cm within the differentiated tillage system in the crop rotation under the maximum nutritive background of N180P60. This agrotechnological variant resulted in a corn grain yield of 14.51 and 14.59 t/ha in 2017 and 2018 years of the study, respectively. The coefficient of water use efficiency, which is the relation of the water used by the crop to the yield, in this variant was the lowest – 39.6 and 42.0 mm/t in 2017 and 2018, respectively, which indicates the optimum response of corn grain to watering. The worst indexes of water use efficiency and corn productivity were determined in the experimental variant with disk cultivator tillage on the depth of 12–14 cm within the subsoil tillage system within the crop rotation under non-fertilized conditions. We determined that strengthening of the crop nutrition under the rational tillage system in crop rotation is helpful in optimization of the crop water use in the irrigated conditions of the South of Ukraine, which is very important in the current conditions of freshwater scarcity
