The purpose of the study was to investigate effects of emotional knowledge, self efficacy and parental involvement on goal setting behaviour among adolescents in Ibadan Area of Oyo state. The study adopted a descriptive research design to select three hundred secondary school students. Three instruments used were used for the study, emotional knowledge, self efficacy scale, parental involvement scale and Goal setting behaviour scales. Three research Questions were raised and answered in the study at 0.05 level of significant.  The results showed that there was significant relationship among the three independent variables (emotional knowledge, self efficacy and parental involvement) on adolescents’ goal setting behaviour and that the three independent variables (emotional knowledge, self efficacy and parental involvement) both jointly and relatively contributed significantly to the prediction adolescents’ goal setting behaviour. On the basis of these findings, it was stressed and advocated that there is need to enlighten the adolescents on how to improve on their emotional knowledge, self efficacy and parental involvement,, because their level of efficacy has a long way to influence their goal setting behaviour and general wellbeing, and that the parents need to be trained on the need to be actively involved in the adolescents’ development and give adequate emotional caring and guidance in terms of goal setting in the society. Key words: Emotional knowledge, self efficacy, parental involvement and behaviours’ goal settin

Development of an Enterprise Resource Planning System for Information Coordination in Higher Institutions

    Get PDF
This paper presents a development of an enterprise resource planning system for information coordination amongst staff members in higher institutions. Presently, the mode of information dissemination in most institutions is manual which makes information slow, time consuming and unsecured. This in turn causes late action being taken on information. Cascade style sheet (CSS), Adobe Dreamweaver Cascading Style 4 Editor, HTML and the Java Script were used for the web page design, and the Adobe framework for graphics. PHP was used for the web development to produce dynamic pages. The database was designed using MySQL and Navicat. The result of the evaluation returned the following values: 3.83, 4.05, and 3.41 for the SDR, SRI and SEU respectively on a Likert-type rating scale of 1 to 5. This system focused on dissemination of information by electronic means in Higher Institutions

Pollution Studies on Ground Water Contamination: Water Quality of Abeokuta, Ogun State, South West Nigeria

Changes in water levels in wells reflect changes in recharge to, and discharge from an aquifer. Generally groundwater is rain water or water from surface water bodies, like rivers, lakes or streams that permeate into the soil and bedrock and is stored underground in the pores spaces between soil particles. Groundwater pollution occurs when hazardous substances come into contact and dissolve in the water in the soil or on the surface. Groundwater is generally less susceptible to contamination and pollution when compared to surface water, naturally impurities in rainwater or surface water which replenishes groundwater systems, get removed while infiltrating through soil strata. In Nigeria, groundwater is used intensively for irrigation and domestic purposes, a variety of land and water-based human activities are causing pollution of this precious resource. Its over-exploitation is causing aquifer contamination in certain instances, while in certain others its unscientific development with insufficient knowledge of groundwater flow dynamic and geo-hydro-chemical processes has led to its mineralization. Adequate supply of safe and portable fresh water is an inevitable factor for socio economic development.  Although the recent global attention focuses on how the current and foreseeable water crisis and associated consequences would be addressed, quite a lot of factors such as  low level of education, insufficient budgetary funding, inefficient government policies,  drought are increasingly contributing to the pollution of domestic water in Nigeria. Every organisation either corporate or otherwise including the school exists essentially to achieve certain stated objectives. There is no way the goals and objectives of an organisation can be achieved without putting in place certain mechanisms towards ensuring its success. In the school system, one of the mechanisms to be put in place towards achieving the goals of the school is supervision. This paper therefore examined the meaning of supervision, instructional supervision and the role of supervisor. The paper also, examined major challenges of instructional supervision in secondary schools and the way forward. Recommendations were made on how to ensure effective supervision of instruction in secondary schools. Keywords: Supervision, Instructional supervision and Secondary education

The aim of this study was to establish the status of print media coverage of male and female athletes in Nigeria. The study monitored the frequency of occurrence of print media reporting on male and female athletes. Articles and photographs of athletes in print media within the period of a year were analyzed. The results of the study confirmed that male athletes were more frequently reported in National Daily Newspapers in Nigeria than female athletes. This gives more visibility to male athletes than female athletes. Keywords: Gender, equity, entertainment, symbiotic, frequenc

POTENTIALS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF LANDSAT IMAGERY IN RELATION TO LAND USE /COVER IN OKITIPUPA METROPOLIS, ONDO STATE, NIGERIA

    Get PDF
Landsat satellite imagery plays a crucial role in providing information on land use/cover modifications on local, regional, and global scales, especially where aerial photographs are missing. Monitoring land-use changes from past to present tends to be time-consuming especially when dealing with ground-truth information. Determining the past and current land-use change on Earth's surface using Landsat imagery tends to be effective and efficient when high-resolution imagery is unavailable. This study employed the use of Landsat satellite imagery to assess the past and present land use/cover using supervised classification and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The result of the supervised classification land use/cover showed that forest cover and woodland undergo rapid loss, while farmland, wetland, built-up, and waterbodies tend to experience gradual loss. The NDVI demonstrated that farmland and forest cover was the most affected land use/cover. Hence, land use/cover of the study area is affected by human activities, such as intensive farming, population size, and deforestation. &nbsp

Some mineral profiles of fresh and bottled palm wine – a comparative study

    Get PDF
Some mineral profiles of fresh palm wine and those of seven brands of bottled palm wine were analysed using atomic absorption spectroscopy and the values were compared. Three of the bottled samples contained toxic levels of either Pb or Cd or both. Neither metal was detected in fresh palm wine. Zn, Cr and Ni were 2 to 15 times higher while Cu was 2 to 5 times lower in bottled samples than values for fresh sample. The likelihood of water- derived heavy metal contamination during bottling, and its potential health implication for consumers are discussed.Key words: Palm wine, bottling, mineral elementsAfrican Journal of Biotechnology Vol. 4 (8), pp. 829-83

Resident Perception of Forest Resource Management in Selected Communities in Ede South Local Government, Nigeria

This study examined residents’ perceptions of how forest resources are maintained and managed in Osun State, Nigeria's Ede South local government. The primary data were obtained by randomly selecting community members to receive questionnaires. The data was examined using cross tabulation, linear regression, and correlation.  The analysis's findings indicate that 86% of the respondents are already aware of the need to save forests. The respondents are 48 years old on average. The majority of respondents (67.1%) believed that if the government is allowed to control the forest resources, they can be managed more effectively. According to the survey, only 20% of respondents had a low level of understanding regarding community-based forest resource management. The majority of respondents (41%) don't know what they stand to gain from this strategy. 41% of them hold the view that the government owns the forest and should therefore be responsible for managing it, not them. In order to manage forest resources sustainably, community members should have the opportunity to participate in decision-making. Young professionals should also be involved
