An Overview of a Grid Architecture for Scientific Computing
This document gives an overview of a Grid testbed architecture proposal for
the NorduGrid project. The aim of the project is to establish an inter-Nordic
testbed facility for implementation of wide area computing and data handling.
The architecture is supposed to define a Grid system suitable for solving data
intensive problems at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. We present the various
architecture components needed for such a system. After that we go on to give a
description of the dynamics by showing the task flow
IBM: parameter symmetry, hidden symmetries and transformations of boson operators
A symmetry of the parameter space of interacting boson models IBM-1 and IBM-2
is studied. The symmetry is associated with linear canonical transformations of
boson operators, or, equivalently, with the existence of different realizations
of the symmetry algebras of the models. The relevance of the parameter symmetry
to physical observables is discussed.Comment: LATEX, 11 pages including 1 eps figure and 1 table prepared as an eps

Examining signals of trust in criminal markets online
This study examines the signals of trust in stolen data advertisements by analysing the structural and situational factors that influence the type of feedback sellers receive. Specifically, this article explores the factors associated with positive and negative buyer feedback from the purchase of stolen credit card data in a series of advertisements from a sample of Russian and English language forums where individuals buy and sell personal information. The results of zero-inflated Poisson regression models suggest that the sellers may influence their likelihood of receiving feedback by specifying the type of payment mechanism, choosing the advertisement language and selecting the type of market they operate within. The implications of this study for our understanding of online illicit markets, criminological theory and policy-making will be explored in depth.Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate, Cyber Security Division (DHSSandT/ CSD) Broad Agency Announcement 11.02, the Government of Australia and SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific [N66001-13-C-0131]; National Institute of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, US Department of Justice [2010-IJ-CX-1676, 2010]This is the final version of the article. On the T-Odd Quark Fragmentation Function and on Transversal Handedness
The first probe of the correlation of the T-odd one-particle fragmentation
function responsible for the left--right asymmetry of fragmentation of a
transversely polarized quark is done by using the 1991-95 DELPHI data for -jet decay. Integrated over the fraction of longitudinal and transversal
momenta, this correlation is of 1.5% order, which means order of 13% for the
analyzing power.
A rather large () handedness transversal to the production plane
was observed in the diffractive production of () triples from
nuclei by the --beam. It was shown that the phenomenon has a
clear dynamic origin and resembles the single spin asymmetry behavior. All this
makes us hope to use this effects in polarized DIS experiments for transversity
measurement.Comment: 10 pp, 5 epsfig, Latex 2e, szjp.cls, epsfig.sty, wrapfig.sty

The NorduGrid architecture and tools
The NorduGrid project designed a Grid architecture with the primary goal to
meet the requirements of production tasks of the LHC experiments. While it is
meant to be a rather generic Grid system, it puts emphasis on batch processing
suitable for problems encountered in High Energy Physics. The NorduGrid
architecture implementation uses the \globus{} as the foundation for various
components, developed by the project. While introducing new services, the
NorduGrid does not modify the Globus tools, such that the two can eventually
co-exist. The NorduGrid topology is decentralized, avoiding a single point of
failure. The NorduGrid architecture is thus a light-weight, non-invasive and
dynamic one, while robust and scalable, capable of meeting most challenging
tasks of High Energy Physics.Comment: Talk from the 2003 Computing in High Energy Physics and Nuclear

CEP-stable Tunable THz-Emission Originating from Laser-Waveform-Controlled Sub-Cycle Plasma-Electron Bursts
We study THz-emission from a plasma driven by an incommensurate-frequency
two-colour laser field. A semi-classical transient electron current model is
derived from a fully quantum-mechanical description of the emission process in
terms of sub-cycle field-ionization followed by continuum-continuum electron
transitions. For the experiment, a CEP-locked laser and a near-degenerate
optical parametric amplifier are used to produce two-colour pulses that consist
of the fundamental and its near-half frequency. By choosing two incommensurate
frequencies, the frequency of the CEP-stable THz-emission can be continuously
tuned into the mid-IR range. This measured frequency dependence of the
THz-emission is found to be consistent with the semi-classical transient
electron current model, similar to the Brunel mechanism of harmonic generation
Comparative characteristics of cytokine regulation in patients with gastric diseases associated with <i>Helicobacter pylori</i> infection
When the body is infected with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, a cytokine cascade is launched, which plays a key role in the progression of chronic inflammatory and destructive processes in the gastric mucosa. Thus, the secretion of a number of cytokines is stimulated, which in turn contribute to the attraction of immunocompetent cells and the development of inflammatory changes. However, hyperproduction of cytokines can lead to atrophic changes in the gastric mucosa and, as a result, degeneration into gastric cancer. Thus, the role of cytokines in precancerous conditions is ambiguous. On the one hand, they activate the immune response aimed at eliminating the pathogen. On the other hand, they themselves contribute to the progression of the disease. The complex clinical and laboratory study included patients: 60 with chronic gastritis (CG), 55 with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), 50 with gastric cancer (GC, stage I-II, morphological variant – adenocarcinoma) and 60 – control group. The diagnoses were verified according to international and Russian recommendations and confirmed by laboratory and instrumental studies. All patients were comparable in terms of gender and age characteristics (p > 0.05). All patients had specific IgG to H. pylori. The study was approved by the Local Ethics Committee of the FRC KSC SB RAS (protocol No. 11 dated November 11, 2013). All ethical requirements were observed, and the patients signed the informed consent form for participation. Patients and persons of the control group underwent a single blood sampling from the cubital vein upon admission to vacutainers with heparin. The levels of IL-2, IL-4, IL-8, TNFα, interferon-γ in the blood serum of patients and healthy individuals were determined using the enzyme immunoassay method using reagent kits manufactured by JSC “VectorBest”. Statistical data processing was carried out using the Statistica for Windows 8.0 application package. All patients with H. pylori-associated diseases (CG, CAG, GC) showed an increase in pro-inflammatory (IL-2, IL-8, IFNγ) with a significant increase in IL-8 in all patients and IFNγ in gastric cancer and antiinflammatory cytokine (IL-4) with a maximum value in gastric cancer. A combined Th1 and Th2 is found – a mediated immune response with a maximum violation of cytokine regulation in gastric cancer
Atlas Data-Challenge 1 on NorduGrid
The first LHC application ever to be executed in a computational Grid
environment is the so-called ATLAS Data-Challenge 1, more specifically, the
part assigned to the Scandinavian members of the ATLAS Collaboration. Taking
advantage of the NorduGrid testbed and tools, physicists from Denmark, Norway
and Sweden were able to participate in the overall exercise starting in July
2002 and continuing through the rest of 2002 and the first part of 2003 using
solely the NorduGrid environment. This allowed to distribute input data over a
wide area, and rely on the NorduGrid resource discovery mechanism to find an
optimal cluster for job submission. During the whole Data-Challenge 1, more
than 2 TB of input data was processed and more than 2.5 TB of output data was
produced by more than 4750 Grid jobs.Comment: Talk from the 2003 Computing in High Energy Physics and Nuclear
