    Model of Empowerment to Improve Autonomy Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) Tuberculosis Patients

    Empowerment as not yet optimal health promotion efforts done to enhance the autonomy of Directly Observed Treatment (DOT), which affect the success of the recovery of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. The purpose of research was to develop a model empowerment based on Health Promotion and Health Literacy with approach to nursing intervention in an effort enhance the autonomy of the DOT - pulmonary TB patients. The method was an observational analytic with cross sectional approach. Multistage random sampling was DOT-pulmonary TB patients to decide the district and simple random sampling was assigned to choose the participants, a total of 253 DOT- pulmonary TB patients new case with acid resistant bacilli positive on the advanced phase in this study. The study conducted in five districts in Surabaya City (center, north, south, east and west). Data were collected by questionnaire on variables namely personal, cognitive and affective, nursing intervention, commitment, family supports, health literacy and DOT- autonomy. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with LISREL is used for constructing predictive model. Result : This study found a new model which was developed based on combination of Health Promotion Model (HPM) and Health Literacy (HL). Statistical result confirm that personal, cognitive and affective, health literacy and family support considered as important factors in improving DOT-autonomy. Conclusion : DOT- autonomy will improve by considering four main factors, personal, cognitive and affective, health literacy, family support. This model can be adapted by District Health Office Surabaya City as the main actor regional health development. In addition, this model may become a reference for other district in improving their nursing intervention in community setting

    The social policy had and possibily remained to be main concern in health promotion. Healthy public policy is developed as a fundamental aspect in health promotion and that concludes from either from conceptual or empirical social policy. Social policy provide knowledge on how 'conducting' healthy public policy: how to develop policy in gaining health. This article assessed the contribution of social policy studies for health promotion studies either in providing information on healthy public policy development or in providing analysis on the possibility of health procedure. It contained outline of prominent characteristics of academic studies on social policies, focus and its perspectives, and suggestions so that they provided contributions on health promotion, especially on health public policy

    The Improvement of Cognitive Function and Decrease the Level of Stress in the Elderly with Brain Gym

    The decline in cognitive function in the elderly, which is part of the aging process can result in long-term memory problems and information processes, so it is often regarded as a stressor that causes stress and perceived as an adverse threat. Brain gym can improve memory, decreased emotional stress and the clearer mind. The aim of the study analyzed the effectiveness of brain gym in improving cognitive function and decreased the level of stress of elderly. Pre-experimental study of one group pretest-posttest design with 35 samples selected by simple random sampling. The frequency of Brain Gym exercise twice a week with duration of every 15 minutes and done in four weeks. Measurement of stress level using DASS, while Cognitive function with MMSE. Data analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test. The results showed improvement of cognitive function in elderly and decreased stress level after brain gym (p = 0.001 and p = 0.009 at α = 0.05). Brain gyms are more effective at lowering stress levels than older cognitive function improvements that require longer and more intense time to improve concentration and elderly memory.   Keywords: Brain Gym, Kognitif, Stress, Elderl

    Influence of Prenatal Class to the Practice of P4K (Birth Planning and Prevention of Birth Complication)

    Objective: This study aimed to analyze the influence of prenatal class to the practice of P4K (Birth Planning And Prevention Of Birth Complication).Materials and Methods: This study applied analytical survey with cross sectional approach. The number of samples taken was as many as 30 mothers, using simple random sampling. Analysis of data was carried out using ordinal wilcoxon sign rank test. Datas were obtained from interviews and questionnaire.Result: The influence of prenatal class to practice of P4K (Birth Planning and Prevention of Birth Complication) (p = 0,0000). Conclusion: Prental class can influence to practic of P4K

    Correlations Between Characteristic of Built Environment, Social Support Quality and the Health Status of Elderly

    One of social issue regarding aging people that contributed to health impact was neglected elderly. In addressing this problems the socialservices provisions such as nursing home could become a main alternative solution. The aims of this study were to analyzed correlationsbetween built environment chracteristic, social support quality and healthy behavior with health status of eldery that occupied at Budi Sejahteranursing home, South Kalimantan. This is a cross sectional study conducted during March–July 2011. The population of this study was 65 elderpeoples who meet inclusion requirement and used total population as study sample. Spearman correlations test was used for data analyzation.The result showed most of respondent have poor housing qualities (53.8%) and social support quality (40%). Bivariate analysis showed variouscorrelations between social support quality, healthy behaviors and built environment characteristics with health status of elderly. Conclusionare Housing qualities and social support qualities, especially that came from family were considered poor according respondents perception,and there are various correlations between social support qualities, healthy behaviors and built environment characteristics with respondentshealth status.Key words: built environment, social support, healthy behaviors, health statu

    Confirmatory Factor Analyses of Adolescent Education Character by Families/Parents in Premarital Sexual Prevention in Jember, Indonesia

    Adolescents are often involved in various risks of sexual behavior that are detrimental to health, social, and economic consequences, therefore parents are the first and foremost educators for children and have an important role in providing children's character education to avoid premarital sexual behavior. The research sample was 229 students in six high schools in Jember Regency. The study used multistage random sampling technique. Variables in adolescent character education include indicators of teaching, motivating, habituation, modeling and enforcement of rules. Data analysis uses confirmatory factor analyze (CFA) with data estimation parameters using software (analysis of moment structures (AMOS) version 21). P-value of character education for adolescents by family/parents to teaching (0.000), p-value of adolescent character education by family/parents to motivation (0.000), p-value of character education for adolescents by family/parents to study (0,080), the value of character education for adolescents by family/parents to habituation (0.000), the value of adolescent character education by family/parents to enforcement of the rules (0.000). The model fit value in the comparative fit index (CFI) (0.897). Adolescent character education can be formed through teaching, motivating, imitating, habituating and enforcing the rules of parents to teenagers
