    Algebraic Bethe ansatz for the gl(1|2) generalized model II: the three gradings

    The algebraic Bethe ansatz can be performed rather abstractly for whole classes of models sharing the same RR-matrix, the only prerequisite being the existence of an appropriate pseudo vacuum state. Here we perform the algebraic Bethe ansatz for all models with 9×99 \times 9, rational, gl(1|2)-invariant RR-matrix and all three possibilities of choosing the grading. Our Bethe ansatz solution applies, for instance, to the supersymmetric t-J model, the supersymmetric UU model and a number of interesting impurity models. It may be extended to obtain the quantum transfer matrix spectrum for this class of models. The properties of a specific model enter the Bethe ansatz solution (i.e. the expression for the transfer matrix eigenvalue and the Bethe ansatz equations) through the three pseudo vacuum eigenvalues of the diagonal elements of the monodromy matrix which in this context are called the parameters of the model.Comment: paragraph added in section 3, reference added, version to appear in J.Phys.

    Regulated transcription of human matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13) and interleukin-1β (IL1B) genes in chondrocytes depends on methylation of specific proximal promoter CpG sites

    The role of DNA methylation in the regulation of catabolic genes such as MMP13 and IL1B, which have sparse CpG islands, is poorly understood in the context of musculoskeletal diseases. We report that demethylation of specific CpG sites at -110 bp and -299 bp of the proximal MMP13 and IL1B promoters, respectively, detected by in situ methylation analysis of chondrocytes obtained directly from human cartilage, strongly correlated with higher levels of gene expression. The methylation status of these sites had a significant impact on promoter activities in chondrocytes, as revealed in transfection experiments with site-directed CpG mutants in a CpG-free luciferase reporter. Methylation of the -110 and -299 CpG sites, which reside within a hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) consensus motif in the respective MMP13 and IL1B promoters, produced the most marked suppression of their transcriptional activities. Methylation of the -110 bp CpG site in the MMP13 promoter inhibited its HIF-2alpha-driven transactivation and decreased HIF-2alpha binding to the MMP13 proximal promoter in chromatin immunoprecipitation assays. In contrast to HIF-2alpha, MMP13 transcriptional regulation by other positive (RUNX2, AP-1, ELF3) and negative (Sp1, GATA1, and USF1) factors was not affected by methylation status. However, unlike the MMP13 promoter, IL1B was not susceptible to HIF-2alpha transactivation, indicating that the -299 CpG site in the IL1B promoter must interact with other transcription factors to modulate IL1B transcriptional activity. Taken together, our data reveal that the methylation of different CpG sites in the proximal promoters of the human MMP13 and IL1B genes modulates their transcription by distinct mechanisms

    Optical Absorption of CuO3_3 antiferromagnetic chains at finite temperatures

    We use a high-statistic quantum Monte Carlo and Maximum Entropy regularization method to compute the dynamical energy correlation function (DECF) of the one-dimensional (1D) S=1/2S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model at finite temperatures. We also present a finite temperature analytical ansatz for the DECF which is in very good agreement with the numerical data in all the considered temperature range. From these results, and from a finite temperature generalisation of the mechanism proposed by Lorenzana and Sawatsky [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 74}, 1867 (1995)], we compute the line shape for the optical absorption spectra of multimagnon excitations assisted by phonons for quasi 1D compounds. The line shape has two contributions analogous to the Stokes and anti-Stokes process of Raman scattering. Our low temperature data is in good agreement with optical absorption experiments of CuO3_3 chains in Sr2_2CuO3_3. Our finite temperature results provide a non trivial prediction on the dynamics of the Heisenberg model at finite temperatures that is easy to verify experimentally.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure

    Gauge Theory on Noncommutative Supersphere from Supermatrix Model

    We construct a supermatrix model which has a classical solution representing the noncommutative (fuzzy) two-supersphere. Expanding supermatrices around the classical background, we obtain a gauge theory on a noncommutative superspace on sphere. This theory has osp(12)osp(1|2) supersymmetry and u(2L+12L)u(2L+1|2L) gauge symmetry. In particular, three algorithms -- the loop algorithm, the worm algorithm, and the directed-loop algorithm -- for updating world-line configurations are presented in a unified perspective.     Triangular mass matrices of quarks and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing

    Every nonsingular fermion mass matrix, by an appropriate unitary transformation of right-chiral fields, is equivalent to a triangular matrix. Using the freedom in choosing bases of right-chiral fields in the minimal standard model, reduction to triangular form reduces the well-known ambiguities in reconstructing a mass matrix to trivial phase redefinitions. Furthermore, diagonalization of the quark mass sectors can be shifted to one charge sector only, without loosing the concise and economic triangular form. The corresponding effective triangular mass matrix is reconstructed, up to trivial phases, from the moduli of the CKM matrix elements, and vice versa, in a unique way.
