    The purpose of this paper was to examine the effect of management information system as a process for improving organizational success: A case study of small scale businesses in port Harcourt. The research design was descriptive survey to study and observe the influence of management information system in organizational success in a competitive environment. It is very important for managers of small scale businesses within  this expanse to effectively install a management information system that will constantly provide them with update on the currents in their environment, both internally and externally since this will help them to make strategic decisions that will have an impact on the success or failure of the organization. Findings from the research shows that when an organization is equipped with a sound management information system, it tends to enjoy improved customer services, increased adaptability, production improvement, improved management decision making process etc. Consequently, it is very important for managers to take the competitive environmental factors seriously since it can affect the operations and performance of the business both internally and externally .Some recommendations were put forward to resolve some of  the issues of the research

    Work Environment and Employee’s Commitment in Three Selected Institutions in Rivers State

    The aim of this study is to investigate work environment and employee’s commitment in three selected Institutions such as Rivers State University, University of Port Harcourt and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. For the purpose of this study, descriptive research design was used. Simple random sampling technique was respectively used to select the respondents for the study. Respondents for this study were fifty (60) made up of twenty-five (35) senior staff and twenty-five (25) junior staff. Structured questionnaires were used for data collection. The study findings indicate that, organization working environment had an impact on members as far as respondents are concerned. The study also revealed that employees’ will improve their performance if the problems identified during the research are tackled by the management. The problems are flexibility of working environment, work noise distraction, supervisor’s interpersonal relationship with subordinates, presence of job aid, the use of performance feedback and improve of work incentives in the organization so that to motivate employees to perform their job. In conclusion based on the findings the study recommended that, the organization needs to have periodic meetings with employees to air their grievances to management and serve as a motivating factor to the employees. Management should find ways and means of communicating their goals and strategies to their employees in order to achieve what the organization is in business for, its mission and vision

    The purpose of this paper was to investigate the interference of politicians in the recruitment and selection of academic staff in federal polytechnics in Niger delta. The research design was descriptive survey to investigation and observed the influence of politicians on recruitment and selection of academic staff  in federal polytechnics  in the Niger delta region of Nigeria .It is of  utmost important for  institutions within this region to discourage the interference of political office holders in the recruitment and selection processes for  these polytechnics to avoid having unqualified staff and poor performing students .Findings from the research shows that the quality of graduates  depends on the quality of the academic staff piloting the academic field of the institutions. Also unqualified staff are recruited and appointed to hold sensitive academic position in the polytechnics thereby ridiculing the meritocracy system.  Sequel to the above , it is very important for this institutions ensure that quality academic staff  of the schools are being properly recruited and selected  not appointed by politicians since this  has a negative effect both on  the image and academic performance of the polytechnics .Some recommendations were put forward to resolve the issues of the research

    Employee Motivation and Job Performance of Selected Construction Companies in Rivers State

    This study was to investigate the relationship between employee motivation and job performance of selected construction companies in Rivers State. In this study, we have two variables employee motivation as the independent variable and job performances as the dependent variable. Both of these variables have their dimensions and measures which will assist the researcher to find out the relationship that employee motivation and job performances of selected construction companies in Rivers State, the methodology adopted was descriptive research design to collect both primary and secondary data. The population of this study consists of 100 (one hundred) staff in the selected construction companies in Rivers State. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire in four point likert scale. 100 copies of questionnaire were distributed to employees of selected construction companies in Rivers State which 90 was retrieved for the analysis. The test-re-test method was adopted in assessing the reliability of the study instrument. The data were analysed using t-test, while three hypotheses were tested using cronbach alpha with the help of Statistical tool to establish the significance of relationship between employee motivation and job performance of selected construction companies in Rivers State. From the above it was recommended that organizations should emphasize on induction training. Employee motivation plays a vital role in job performance. Management should evaluate employee suggestion scheme and use the feedback from the workforce to improve the company’s environment and fulfill their needs and skills. People are different and they are motivated by diverse needs, such as physiological needs, safety requirements and self-actualization needs. Thus, managers should focus on reducing job dissatisfaction (working conditions, salary, supervision, relationship with employee), while using motivating factors such as achievement, recognition, promotion and conducive work environment. If employees feel appreciated for their work and are involved in decision-making, their enhanced enthusiasm and motivation will lead to better productivity and loyalty. The study recommends that Construction Companies should create better work environment, recognition and promotion for better job performance. The study recommends that Construction Companies should include employees in policy making which will boost their job performance

    Staff Empowerment as a Tool for Increasing Orgarnizational Performance: A Study of Non–Academic Junior Staff in Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas Bonny

    The purpose of this paper was to investigate the influence of staff empowerment on organizational performance. The research design was descriptive survey to investigation and observed the influence of staff empowerment on  organizational performance .It is of  utmost important for the  institution management  to empower junior staff in their institution since this have not only been served as  a motivational tool  but also as a strategy to improve  work performance .Findings from the research shows that employees empowerment helps in workers retention ,  workers motivation and serves as performance boaster in the organization . the study find out that  this  strategy has helped many organizations to  improve their performance by delegating functions , entrusting , trusting and giving power and authority to employees to take certain decision as regards to their work , so as to improve their performance .  Sequel to the above , it is very important for this institution  to ensure that it provides environment that promote employees empowerment  and policies that guide this strategy .Some recommendations were put forward to resolve the issues of the research
