    Objective: The discovery of male contraceptive drugs continues to be pursued, due to the very small participation of men associated with the lack of contraceptiveÃptions for men. The combination of methanol extract of bitter melon seed and depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) becomes the choice that currently being pursued to be applied to men.Methods: The use of guinea pigs as experimental animals conducted research using experimental methods with complete randomized design. The study was divided into four control groups i.e K0; dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) for 0 week (4 h),K1; Control group of DMSO for 4 weeks, K2; Control group of DMSO for 8 weeks, K3; Control group of DMSO for 12 weeks, and four treatment groups, i.e: group P0; bitter melon seed extract of 50 mg/100g body weight/day for 0 week (4 h), group P1; Bitter melon seed extract of 50 mg/100g BW/day for 4 weeks+DMPA, group P2; Bitter melon seed extract of 50 mg/100g BW/day for 8 weeks+DMPA, P3 group; Bitter melon seed extract of 50 mg/100g BW/day for 12 weeks+DMPA.Results: There was a significant effect (p<0.05) methanol extract of bitter melon seed to increase the transforming growth factor expression -β expression.Conclusion: The methanol extract of bitter melon seed was able to be candidate for herbal contraception

    Keanekaragaman Plankton di Danau Raja Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu Sebagai Rancangan Kamus Visual Pembelajaran Biologi SMA

    Abstract: This study aims to be used as a source of information on the diversity of plankton species in danau raja. The study was conducted in Danau Raja, Indragiri Hulu Regency in April 2019. The parameters measured were biological parameters and physical chemical parameters of the waters. The research design is the stage of field data collection carried out with exploratory research, while the data collection is carried out using survey methods. This research was conducted in 4 stations with a purposive sampling technique. The method in this study consists of 2 stages, In the study of visual dictionary design using the Four-D model which consists of four stages, namely defining, designing, developing, and dissemination. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively.The results of this study showed that the composition of fitoplankton in danau raja was found in 5 classes, 20 species and 188 individuals. The most zooplankton compositions are Bosmina meridionalis and Diaphanosoma brachyuran with a proportion of 50%. The highest abundance of phytoplankton was found at station IV and the lowest was at station I. The highest phytoplankton diversity index was found at station IV and the lowest was at station I. The highest abundance of zooplankton was obtained at station III and station IV, while at station I and station II there were no zooplankton. The highest zooplankton diversity index was found at station III and station IV while at station I and station II no zooplankton was found.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk dapat dijadikan sebagai sumber informasi keanekaragaman jenis plankton di Danau Raja. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Danau Raja Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu pada bulan April 2019. Parameter yang diukur yaitu parameter biologi dan parameter fisika kimia perairan. Rancangan dalam penelitian ini yaitu tahap pengambilan data lapangan dilaksanakan dengan penelitian eksploratif, sedangkan pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode survei. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam 4 stasiun dengan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Metode pada penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 tahap, yaitu tahap analisis keanekaragaman plankton yang terdapat di Danau Raja dan pembuatan rancangan kamus visual pembelajaran Biologi SMA. Pada penelitian perancangan kamus visual menggunakan model Four-D yang terdiri atas empat tahap yaitu pendefinisian (define), perancangan (design), pengembangan (develope), dan penyebaran (dissemination). Data yang didapatkan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan komposisi fitoplankton di Danau Raja ditemukan 5 kelas, 20 jenis dan 188 individu. Kelimpahan fitoplankton tertinggi terdapat pada stasiun IV dan terendah terdapat pada stasiun I. Indeks keanekaragaman fitoplankton tertiggi terdapat pada stasiun IV dan terendah pada stasiun I. Kelimpahan zooplankton tertinggi di dapatkan pada satsiun III dan stasiun IV, sedangkan pada stasiun I dan stasiun II tidak dijumpai adanya zooplankton. Indeks keanekaragaman zooplankton tertinggi didapatkan pada stasiun III dan stasiun IV sedangkan pada stasiun I dan stasiun II tidak ditemukannya zooplankton

    Kulim (Schorodocarpus borneensis Becc.) is the multipurpose tree species(MPTS), almost the part of tree can be used at this time, although most economic value is wood. Kulim is one of the species that already rare the forest. The aims of this research was to determine the characteristic of kulim in the prohibition tradition Rumbio forest and the distribution of kulim from the seedlimg and it is habitat. This research was conducted in March-April 2016 in the prohibition Rumbio forest. This research using primary data and secondary data. The data collect from systematic sampling with random start technic and plot sizing 50 m x 50 m using purposive sampling technique. Kulim has a habitat on sandy loam, yellowish brown, average water content 5,88% with pH 5,40 (acid). Kulim is located at altitude 93 mdpl-103 mdpl. Average temperatures 25,71 ˚C and average humidity 71,46 %, the thickness of the litter 45 cm. Total of the species 32, Shorealeprosula higher 22,32 INP.Macaca nemestrina, Tupaia javanica, Sus scrofa,Hebarctus malayus and Neofelis nebulosa is the species of animal can be found and can indentify around kulim. Parent tree can be found in the prohibition traditional Rumbio as much as 5 individuals from five lines. Regeneration of kulim for seedlings found 60 individuals farthest distance seedlings from parent tree 1015 cm and the closest distance 57 cm

    The problem of monotony still learning and using old teaching methods make the ability of mastering the concept of material and learning outcomes grade VII MTS Muhammadiyah Java Chart low. In order to encourage students to improve mastery of the concept of matter in the process of learning, the learning model used Discovery Learning. This research aims to improve the learning results of IPA students learning model with the application of Discovery Learning Class VII MTS Muhammadiyah Bagan Jawa Year 2015/2016 Lessons. This research was conducted in February and April 2016. This type of research this is a class action Research (PTK) held as much as 2 cycle. The subject of research is the grade VII MTS Java Chart Muhammadiyah that add up to 28 people. Parameters measured were the result of student learning that consists of absorption and learning of classical as well as the attitudes and skills of students in learning. Based on the results of the research the average absorbance value of Deuteronomy on the cycle I is 76.43 (good) and cycle II of deuteronomy daily increased to was 82.50 (both). Students learn classical on cycle I namely 85.71% with an average score of 87.15 and cycle II increased to 96.42% with the average value of 80.18. The attitude of students in cycle I, namely 76.68 (good) increased in cycle II becomes 92.65 (very good). The skills of students in cycle I, namely 76.04 (good) increased in cycle II becomes 83.04 (good). From the results it can be concluded that the application of Discovery Learning Learning Model can improve the results of studying biology Grade VII MTS Muhammadiyah Bagan Jawa Year 2015/2016 Lessons

    The purpose of this study is to know the ability Profile Junior high school students in Problem Solving Competency Test Laboratory (UKL) On Activity Fair Biology (PRB) in 2016. The research was conducted at the campus of the University of Riau FKIP Biology Education and Junior High School in Pekanbaru that follow Fair Biology ( PRB) in July and October 2016. the sample in this study were all participants Competency Test Laboratory (UKL) totaling 47 people.Techniques in the determination of sample is total sampling. Data collection instruments used in the form of question and answer sheets UKL student participants. The measured parameter is the analysis of items, based on cognitive abilities and psychomotor student.The results show the ability of junior high school students in solving Competency Testing Laboratories based on a set of cognitive domains I shows the criteria are not well with the average of 13.7% and II showed less criteria set well with the average of 24.7% and for psychomotor on set I showed sufficient criteria both with average 42.15% and II showed less criteria set well with the average of 38.5%. The conclusion of the research is the competence profile junior high school students in solving Competency Test Laboratory (UKL) on the activities of the Fair Biology (PRB) in 2016 was less good

    Pengaruh Ekstrak Methanol Biji Pare (Momordica Charantia) dan DMPA terhadap Jumlah Sel Purkinje Cerebellum Mencit (Mus Musculus L.)

    Perubahan jumlah sel purkinje cerebellum mencit dapat dijadikan sebagai indikator terjadinya gangguan terhadap otak kecil pada pemberian ekstrak methanol biji pare (Momordica carantia L.) dan DMPA. Metode eksperimen digunakan untuk menentukan perbedaan yang terjadi pada tiap kelompok kontrol dan pemberian lama pemberian ekstrak biji pare dan DMPA. Kelompok kontrol terbagi dalam K0, K1, dan K2 dengan waktu berturut-turut 0, 4, dan 8 minggu. Kelompok perlakuan terdiri dari (P0) biji pare 0 minggu secara oral dan DMPA intramuskular (@ 6 jam), (P1) biji pare dan DMPA (@4 minggu), (P2) biji pare dan DMPA (@8 minggu). Masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 5 mencit sehingga total mencit jantan adalah 30 ekor. Dosis ekstrak metanol biji pare adalah 5mg/10g berat badan mencit yang diberikan secara oral) (Yama et al. 2011). Sedangkan dosis DMPA sebesar 0,175 mg/ekor mencit yang diberikan secara intramuskular (Ilyas 2014). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak adanya perbedaan yang nyata (p>0,05) antara kontrol dan perlakuan pada 0, 4, dan 8 minggu terhadap jumlah sel purkinje cerebellum mencit.     This research conducted at VII.class of SMPN 3 Rimba Melintang the 2015/2016 school year to improve student learning outcomes by implementing cooperative learning model STAD. This research is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The parameters in this study is the thoroughness of learning outcomes derived from the value of post tets and the daily test, student activities and teacher's activities and there are collected using observation sheet. The results showed increased absorbency where first post test is 75.20 into 79.50 in post test 2, while the second cycle value increased 85.00 first post test on second post test to 90.6. Mastery learning increased from the first cycle that 74.55 (enough), being 80.70 (both) in the second cycle. Choice group increased from the first cycle, four great groups and one group of super, into three great groups and two groups of super in the second cycle. Student activity increased from the first cycle average of 81.73% to 94.04% in the second cycle. Teacher activity increased from the first cycle an average of 75% (enough), to an average of 95% (excellent) on the second cycle. It can be concluded that the implementation of cooperative learning model STAD can improve learning outcomes of VII.grade science students at SMPN 3 Rimba Melintang 2015/2016 school year

    Komposisi dan Struktur Vegetasi Arboretum Universitas Riau sebagai Penyimpan Cadangan Karbon untuk Pengembangan Modul Mata Kuliah Pendidikan Lingkungan

    This study aims to determine the composition, structure, and carbonstock of vegetation in Riau University Arboretum and to develop module in naturalenvironment concept for environmental education courses. Conducted from November2015 until January 2016. This study conducted in 2 step i.e. (1) Vegetation analysis andcarbon stock estimation; (2) Module development. The methods to collect data is usingsurvey and the observation took place in Riau University Arboretum. Sampling locationare determine using purposive random sampling by considering vegetation condition,environment, and topographic. Module is developed using ADDIE model. Parameter inthis study are vegetation analysis, biomass, and carbon estimation. Vegetation in RiauUniversity Arboretum consist of 25 family, 44 species, and 604 individual with mediumcategory (2,94) for diversity. Hevea Brasiliensis is the species with highest importancevalue index (74,05%). Total of biomass and carbon stock in study location are 2,23ton/ha and 1,12 ton C/ha. Module that developed from outcome of the study is in validcategory (4,1) and limited test shows that the module in very good category (89,3)
