God becomes the search for religious people. This search is expressed in the form of books, songs, movies, or even in the form of literary works. The individual poets express God in poetry. There is a difference between one poet and the other. In this study, therefore, we examine several issues: the expression of God in Amir Hamzah\u27s poem entitled Drop Back, the expression of God in Chairil Anwar\u27s poem entitled Prayer, the expression of God in the Sutardji Calzoum Bachri poem entitled Amuk, and the comparison of expression on God in the poems of the poets. This research is qualitative with descriptive nature. In this case, data collection is done by library method and documentation technique. Further data analysis is done with the application of Roland Barthes semiotics theory, namely the principle of signifier (sign), signified (signified), and meaning (signification). This analysis begins by splitting the data in the form of fragments that are arbitrarily defined. Thereafter, the first or denotative meanings are determined by looking at the lexical meaning, and the meaning of the second or connotative level is determined by the search for a relation between marker and second level marker. By looking at the significance of the second level, the expression of God in the poetry of the poets in can be determined. Thus, the results of data analysis show things as follows. (1) Amir Hamzah expresses God with the fragment of your servant tongue, different, develops, spreads me up the ladder of captivity, and descends again. (2) Chairil Anwar expresses God with the fragments of prayer and at your door I knock. (3) Sutarjdi Calzoum Bachri expresses God with the fragments of my cat and se There is mmmmMu! (4) Amir Hamzah expressing God as a supreme substance and he resisted such ideas as manunggaling kusula gusti, Chairil Anwar expressed God as the only place to get the feeling of "coming home or returning" to be a person who surrendered to the greatness of God\u27s grace, while Sutarjdi Calzoum Bachri expressed God as a substance that can only be found with submission to Him

Speech acts of classroom interaction have been an interesting topic both in ESL and EFL context. Little research, however, has been held in analyzing speech acts of classroom interaction and its relation to strategies used in EFL context. This paper aims at investigating the types and frequency of speech acts performed in terms of teacher-student interactions. It also focuses on analyzing strategies used by teachers and students in performing the illocutionary act of imperatives. Qualitative method is used by means of mixed pragmatic-discourse approach. The data were collected through observation and recording. Three English teachers and 30 male students grade IX of MTs NW Putra Nurul Haramain are participants for gathering the data. The study reveals that four types of speech acts performed are imperatives, assertive, expressions, and commissives. Of those speech acts performed, the very dominant type of speech acts performed, about 120 acts or 43% is imperatives.  Assertions about 117 acts or 42% are dominant acts.  Expressions about 34 acts or 12% area less dominant category and Commissives about 7 or 2,5% are not dominant. In relation to strategies used in realization of imperatives, the study recognizes that requests as strategies used in realization of request are (a) formal completeness (propositional completeness and modification), (b) level of directness (mood derivable, performative, hedged performative, locution derivable, and conventionally indirect), (c) point of views, (d) context, and (e) mood. The study reveals that imperatives as the most type of illocutionary act performed in classroom interaction. Furthermore, it also indicates the lack of students' pragmatic competence in performing such an act. For that reason, teachers need to expose the learners with communication strategies in order to speak accurately and appropriately in different context. It needs a further study about pragmatic competence needed in EFL context and material designs for teaching such competences

Robert Frost, one of the most prominent American poets of the mid-20th century, once stated that “literature is a performance in words” (Barnet et al., 1961: 1). The phrase “performance in words” specifically refers to the real significance of language in the presentation of a literary work. If there is no language, then there will be absolutely no literature or literary work. Language serves not only as a medium for the work's existence but also for a work to be called a work of art. Related to this proposition, poetry as a literary genre certainly exists because of the language by which the poets or the authors pour out their artistic and creative craftmanship, and through which readers can really read, enjoy, and concretize the poets' ideas and messages

This paper discusses how and why the Quakers dealt with human rights issues in the United States before 20th century, ranging from the mid 17th century to the mid 19th century. It applies Nash Smiths interdisciplinary theory as a theoretical approach. The Quakers, as a Christian religious group, had got several features or identities since George Fox declared its existence in England in the mid of 17th century. They lived in simplicity, adopted the principle of pacifism, rejected paying tith and tax, rejected taking off hat, used archaic words, and so forth. However, the Quakers in the United States had shown a new feature or identity; namely, the enforcement of human rights in the eras before the 20th century. The human rights enforcement was motivated by their piety and loyality to the Quakerism. In other words, it was an expression of their belief in Quakerism. This theology empowered their thoughts and actions in responding issues pertaining to human rights of the minorities i.e. the Indians or Native Americans, the African-Americans, and women along the span of time. Their goal was to let the minorities enjoy their unalienable rights as what most of white men had enjoyed
