The Relationship Between Therapist Adverse Childhood Experiences, Personal Therapy, Resilience, and Treatment Outcomes
With the development of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) questionnaire, Felitti et al. (1998) established that childhood trauma has a wide-ranging impact on adult health. Subsequent studies have identified a myriad of relationships between childhood adversity and negative physical, psychological, social, vocational, educational, and developmental outcomes in adulthood (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2020; Hughes et al., 2017; Kalmakis & Chandler, 2015). New research has uncovered higher rates of ACEs among those in helping professions (Butler et al., 2018; Harris, 2019; Thomas, 2016), but it is unclear how these experiences impact their work as helpers. This study investigated the treatment outcomes of clients in simulation therapy at a university-based site in the Pacific Northwest. The researcher hypotheses therapists would have higher rates of ACEs, that therapists with higher ACEs and high resilience would have better treatment outcomes and therapeutic alliances, and that therapists who had attended personal therapy would have higher resilience and better treatment outcomes. Results indicated therapists experience significantly higher rates of childhood emotional abuse and household mental illness and significantly lower rates of physical and sexual abuse. No significant relationship was found between therapist ACE scores, resilience, personal therapy attendance, and treatment outcomes. A small negative relationship between the quality of the therapeutic alliance and therapist resilience was found. Additionally, there was a small positive relationship between therapeutic relationships and treatment outcomes. Finally, no relationship was found between therapist personal therapy and level of resilience and better treatment outcomes. The implications of these findings are discussed
Digital Storytelling in the Library: Supporting the Multimodal Assignment from Start to Finish
This poster explores the security, privacy and ethical considerations confronted in supporting digital media courses. Supporting this shift in curriculum, librarians have the opportunity to facilitate an intelligent and integrated move toward the use of these digital tools in classrooms and participate in educating students on media literacy. Librarians supporting the Digital Media Studio at Marquette University share their techniques in educating students on intellectual property issues and in navigating security and privacy problems with shared equipment
Digital Security & Grantcraft Guide : an Introduction Guide for Funders
Digital security breaches can cause harm to grantees, as well as their clients, beneficiaries, and partner organizations. These threats also pose a risk to grantmakers and to the larger strategies of impacted organizations. Security leaks can compromise an organization's ability to carry out its work, and can erode trust between civil society actors. This guide is to help grantmakers both assess and address digital security concerns. It explores the types of digital threats against civil society and the obstacles to addressing them. It explains how to conduct a digital security "triage" of grants to elevate the digital security of your whole grant portfolio; while playing special attention to the highest risk grantees. And it provides suggestions for pathways to think more systematically about digital security
The impact of COVID-19 mitigation measures on fertility patients and clinics around the world
Research question: What is the impact of the response to COVID-19 on the management of fertility treatments and clinical practice around the world? Design: Fertility clinic associates around the world were approached. They completed an online survey containing 33 questions focused on the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Known fertility clinic associates that were contacted comprised scientific directors, medical directors and laboratory managers. Results: There were 43 individual country responses from Asia (13), Africa (3), Europe (17), North America (3), Oceania (2) and South America (5). In nine countries, clinics followed their government body recommendations, in 22 countries there was a combination of recommendations, in 3 countries changes were made by clinic initiative, and 9 countries did not specify. In 34 countries IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and frozen embryo transfer (FET) treatments had an average delay of 56 days (IVF/ICSI) (minimum 0, maximum 160) and 57 days (FET) (minimum 0, maximum 166 days). During the shutdown, the number of freeze-all cycles increased in 22 countries. Only 23 countries reported patients having to undergo a SARS-CoV-2 test, and 20 countries did not report any COVID-19 testing in their clinic. Additional support counselling was offered in 28 countries, partner restrictions at clinics were reported in 41 countries and time between patients’ appointments was increased in 39 countries. Conclusions: The implications of COVID-19 mitigation measures proved the need for government societies to introduce a set protocol that includes requirements such as increased patient counselling and additional guidelines for prioritizing couples who need care most urgently
Motivations for, and barriers to, landowner participation in Argentina's payments for ecosystem services program
DATA AVAILABILITY STATEMENT : The data that support the findings of this study are available on request from the corresponding author. The data are not publicly available due to privacy restrictions.DATA S1. Supporting Information.Payments for ecosystem services (PES) programs are a common policy tool to conserve forests. Effective PES programs attain conservation and social equity outcomes by actively engaging diverse landowners in long-term land stewardship and meeting landowners’ needs. In 2017–2018, we conducted 32 in-depth interviews with landowners, technicians, and government officials to attain insights into how the PES program in Salta province, Argentina, has performed in terms of (1) motivating landowners to enroll in PES, and (2) ensuring their satisfaction with the design and performance of the program, a necessary precondition to ensure long-term forest stewardship. Interviewees suggested that landowners enroll in PES because they are restricted from engaging in more profitable land uses, they are not reliant on income from their land, they need PES payments to cover their land management costs, they are unable or unwilling to sell their land because their property values have been adversely impacted by land-use restrictions, they want to sustainably manage forested land, and/or they want to protect their property rights. Interviewees stated that land title requirements, conflicts over user rights, and high transaction costs hinder PES enrollment and exacerbate social conflicts between landowners and indigenous communities. Finally, interviewees questioned the conservation effectiveness of the PES program, owing to the program design and inadequate funding. Our findings suggest that engaging technicians, landowners, and indigenous communities in discussions on how the structure of the PES program could be improved might allow for shared learning, improved institutional trust, and the design of more flexible contracts that would facilitate sustained conservation and improved social equity.Neotropical Grassland Conservancy.http://wileyonlinelibrary.com/journal/csp2hj2023Mammal Research Institut

The Jalisco Seismic Accelerometric Telemetric Network (RESAJ)
The Jalisco region of western Mexico is the locus of interaction among the
North America, Cocos, and Rivera plates, giving rise to the Jalisco block. This
region is one of the most tectonically active in Mexico, and here took place
the largest instrumentally recorded earthquake in Mexico the twentieth century,
on 3 June 1932 (M 8.2), three important tsunamis in the last 100 yrs, and two
of the most active volcanoes in Mexico. Nevertheless, the first seismicity
studies here, undertaken with temporary networks, did not commence until 1994.
In 2008, the Government of Jalisco and the University of Guadalajara funded a
research project to install a seismic network in this region. The principal
objective was to study the seismic hazard in the region and characterize
seismic parameters in the different areas to design building codes. The Red
Sismica y Acelerometrica Telemetrica de Jalisco (RESAJ) project was thus
initiated in 2009. Its Central Lab is at Centro de Sismologia y Volcanologia de
Occidente (SisVOc), located at the Universidad de Guadalajara in Puerto
Vallarta. Currently, the RESAJ has 26 telemetered and 2 autonomous stations.
The RESAJ serves as the seismological lab for the postgraduate program at

Assessment of Acute and Chronic Pharmacological Effects on Energy Expenditure and Macronutrient Oxidation in Humans: Responses to Ephedrine
Evidence of active brown adipose tissue in human adults suggests that this may become a pharmacological target to induce negative energy balance. We have explored whole-body indirect calorimetry to detect the metabolic effects of thermogenic drugs through administration of ephedrine hydrochloride and have assessed ephedrine's merits as a comparator compound in the evaluation of novel thermogenic agents. Volunteers randomly given ephedrine hydrochloride 15 mg QID (n = 8) or placebo (n = 6) were studied at baseline and after 1-2 and 14-15 days of treatment. We demonstrate that overnight or 23-hour, 2% energy expenditure (EE) and 5% fat (FO) or CHO oxidation effects are detectable both acutely and over 14 days. Compared to placebo, ephedrine increased EE and FO rates overnight (EE 63 kJ day 2, EE 105 kJ, FO 190 kJ, day 14), but not over 23 h. We conclude that modest energy expenditure and fat oxidation responses to pharmacological interventions can be confidently detected by calorimetry in small groups. Ephedrine should provide reliable data against which to compare novel thermogenic compounds
Delirium Postoperatorio reportado en pacientes adultos mayores en Centro Hospitalario en la Ciudad de México
Objective: To evaluate Delirium and the patient's state of consciousness as risk factors after a surgical event, establishing a prognosis for the patient's hospital process, determining the severity of the patient's condition. Method: From the registry of patients of the Neurology and Geriatrics services, patients over 65 years of age who meet the selection criteria and from the clinical record to their neurological risks (predisposition to delirium) will be selected, recording the variables: age, sex, weight, height, BMI and previous cognitive activity. The statistical program Excel for Windows will be used. Results: In this study, a total of 50 patients with a mean age of 70.8 (±7.1) years were included. By sex, 60.0% (30) were women and 40.0% were (20) men. The patients underwent gastrointestinal-abdominal (34%), orthopedic (26%), urological (16%), cardiovascular (12%) and other (12%) surgeries. DPO was detected in 22 (44.0%) patients, subsequently no significant differences by age and sex were found. The variables associated with DPO were duration of surgery (OR = 1.04 [95% CI 1.01-1.06, p = 0.004]) and the presence of elevated intraoperative glucose levels (OR = 1.02 [95% CI 1.00-1.04, p = 0.049]). Conclusions: DPO is a frequent complication in the elderly, which is why an opportune diagnosis and the implementation of prevention strategies are needed for this population.
