Extensive orbital damage as a result of maxillary sinus surgery – a case report and literature review
Classic and FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) surgery of the sinuses are connected with the possibility of surgical complications involving the orbital structures and the eyeball. Most frequently these involve bleeding from the vessels of the orbit and the nasal cavity. A rare and certainly the most serious complication is blindness resulting from damage to the optic nerve. This paper presents a case of postoperative blindness as a result of maxillary sinus surgery complicated by damage to the orbital floor and its inadequate reconstruction
Fibular osteocutaneous free flap reconstruction of the mandible after resection of ossifying fibroma in a seven-year old child
Ossifying fibromas (OSF) belong to a group of benign fibro-osseous neoplasms encountered almost exclusively in the craniofacial skeleton. The clinical course is typically asymptomatic. However, discomfort in the mouth begins to develop once the neoplasm progressively extends, causing an overgrowth of bone resulting in pain and facial asymmetry. The development of craniofacial bone tumors in children is quite a rare occurrence. In international medical literature, the described cases typically involve young adolescent patients, with very few case reports of craniofacial neoplasms in children under the age of seven [1, 2]. In the current case report, we present a seven-year-old patient with a biopsy-proven ossifying fibroma. The patient underwent a resection of the neoplasm with reconstruction. One of the major issues encountered in reconstruction of the mandible using a vascularized fibular flap in children is the growth potential of the fibula in comparison to the mandible, resulting in a symmetrical facial image. The use of a fibular osteocutaneous free flap in reconstruction of mandibular deficits in children is a favourable solution. The use of this type of flap permits functional restoration and significantly improved facial cosmesis. The union of the mandible with the integrated fibula is still a topic of ongoing discussion and one must be prepared for possible further orthognathic procedures after completing the growth of the craniofacial skeleton
Aspergillosis of a maxillary sinus – a case study
The symptoms of fungal infections of the nasal sinuses aren't typical, and often are confused with bacterial infections. The aim of study is to present the case of fungal infection in the maxillary sinus as a complication of endodontic treatment in upper second left premolar. The factors and mechanism which have influence on development of fungal infection in the maxillary sinus was presented in the discussion
Metastatic breast cancer of the mandible. Case report
Abstract The authors describe the case of the rare location breast cancer metastasis to the lower jaw, 24 months after primary tumor removal. Clinical symptoms and additional examinations suggested the new neoplastic focus. Histopathological study of the operating material brought to light the origin of the change
Approved and Commercialized Antidiabetic Medicines (Excluding Insulin) in Seven European Countries—A Cross-Sectional Comparison
Diabetes mellitus is a complex, multifactorial, progressive condition with a variety of approved therapeutic options. The purpose of this study was to offer an overview of the authorized antidiabetic medicines (excluding insulin) compared with marketed products in seven European countries. Data were obtained from primary sources, including the websites of national authorities and directly from specialists in the countries of interest. The range of marketed medicines compared with the authorized group was assessed in terms of active pharmaceutical ingredients (>60% in Bulgaria, France, Serbia), brand names (>70% in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Spain), pharmaceutical forms (>60% in all countries), strengths (>60% in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Spain), marketing authorization holder (≥50% in all countries) and the status of medicine. Spain was found to have the highest number of products based on most of these attributes. Over 90% of authorized medicines had a pharmacy price in Serbia. Regarding the newer class of GLP-1 receptor agonists, a retail price for all approved substances was available in Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Spain. Only one brand name with one concentration was found available for some agents, being susceptible to drug shortages: glibenclamide (Romania, Serbia, Spain), glipizide (the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Spain), glisentide (Spain), acarbose (the Czech Republic), sitagliptin (Bulgaria, Poland), vildagliptin (the Czech Republic, Poland) and saxagliptin (the Czech Republic, France, Romania, Serbia). An overview of the national and international therapeutic options may allow competent authorities and health professionals to take rapid measures in case of supply problems or health crises
Proces skośnego przeładunku w systemie transportu intermodalnego
An innovative solution of the new intermodal transport system used to carry standardsemitrailers is presented in this paper. The basic components of the system structure are shown. The stages of loading semi-trailers in the horizontal handling technology and benefits connected with this type of handling are described. The presented technology is able to compete with German and French solution like CargoBeamer or Modalohr due to the automation of forming the set of train and other advantages. The construction of the wagon and the loading structure have been applied for patent protection in the Polish Patent Office.W pracy przedstawiono innowacyjne rozwiązanie nowego systemu transportu intermodalnego służącego do przewozu standardowych naczep drogowych.

Wyszczególniono podstawowe prace projektowe i naukowo-badawcze niezbędne do realizacji w celu dalszego rozwoju prezentowanej koncepcji. The structural model of the innovative solutions of the system of combined railway-road transport is presented in this article. The significant differences of the new system in relation to the known systems of the intermodal transport arę described and the main advantages of the new solution are mentioned. The essential design and scientific-research works necessary for realization in order to the further development of the presented conception are specified
Nowotwory złośliwe jamy ustnej i szyi w materiale Kliniki Chirurgii Szczękowo-Twarzowej w Poznaniu w okresie 2002–2004
Increasing number of malignant neoplasms of the oral cavity and facial region as well as lower age of the patients hospitalized were the interest of the authors. Material and methods. Clinical data from the years 2002–2004 were analysed in this paper. In this study the factors as: sex and age of patients, tumor localization, histological examinations, surgical treatment of the tumor and lymph nodes are reported. Results. During the 3 years period there were 346 tumors of the oral cavity treated in Clinic of Maxillofacial Surgery in Poznaƒ. Epidemiologic studies have revealed a increased number of squamous cell carcinomas and other malignant tumors as lymphomas, adenoid cystic carcinomas and sarcomas of the oro-facial region. The staging of the tumors is similar as in previous years. Conclusions. The study shows better knowledge about oral malignancies in dentists and general praticioners. The tumor patients are surgically treated earlyer as in previous years
