Search for Squarks and Gluinos with the D0 detector

We report on D0 searches for scalar quarks (tilde-q) and gluinos (tilde-g), the superpartners of quark and gluons, in topologies involving jets and missing transverse energies. Data samples obtained with D0 detector from proton anti-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV corresponding to an intergrated luminosities of 1-4 inverse-fb were analyzed. No evidence for the production of such particles were observed and lower limits on squarks and gluino masses were set.Comment: To be published in the proceedings of DPF-2009, Detroit, MI, July 2009, eConf C09072

Search for Leptoquarks with the D0 detector

We report on D0 searches for leptoquarks (LQ) predicted in extended gauge theories and composite models to explain the symmetry between quarks and leptons. Data samples obtained with the D0 detector from proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV corresponding to intergrated luminosities of 1--4 inverse-fb were analyzed. No evidence for the production of such particles were observed and lower limits on leptoquark masses are set.Comment: To be published in the proceedings of DPF-2009, Detroit, MI, July 2009, eConf C09072

Labor Market Integration between Northern Mexico and Southern United States: an empirical investigation.

In this paper, the analysis of co-dependence between the US and Mexico labor markets is carried out by estimating the cyclical component of California’s and Texas’ manufacturing employment and four US Border Mexican cities through the Hodrick-Prescott filter. We estimated the smoothing parameter following a calibration technique proposed by Guerrero et al (2001) which allows us to obtain the best linear unbiased estimator of the trend component. Our analysis suggests that after 1994 there has been greater labor market integration between Mexico’s northern region and US’ southern region. This greater integration has implied a change in the nature of the short term relationship of manufacturing employment between Mexico and the US. The change is also significant on the relationship between Mexican real wages and US employment.Vertical FDI, Labor market integration, Hodrick-Prescott filter,Latin America, US-Mexico border

The Institute for Aboriginal Development Incorporated (IAD) was established by the Uniting Church in 1969 to assist community development for Aboriginal people and provide cross-cultural education between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal society. It is now an independent Aboriginal community-controlled language resource centre and adult education centre serving the Aboriginal community of Central Australia. General IAD activities include: * education programs which range from literacy and numeracy to vocational and higher education level courses; * an Aboriginal language and culture centre specialising in language cross-culture and cultural maintenance programs, as well as providing interpreter services and language research * a publishing arm, IAD Press, which produces material on the Aboriginal people, language and culture of Central Australia

Northern Eskimo Law Ways and Their Relationship to Contemporary Problems of "Bush Justice": Some Preliminary Observations on Structure and Function

    Get PDF
This paper describes the how the basic values, personality, and culture of Northern (Inupiat) Eskimos contribute to attitudes toward conflict and their society’s capacity to resolve conflict. The paper analyzes the influence of Anglo-American agents of change on that capacity and, especially, the legal system and procedures that developed in the post-contact use of the village council to resolve disputes. It discusses the formal intervention of state law through the magisterial system and its interaction with Eskimo law ways that the village council encouraged. A comparison of village councils and magistrate courts points out the apparent success of the councils due to their unique fit with Eskimo values and expectations. Finally, shortcomings of .the current magistrate system are analyzed with recommendations for policy adaptations.Introduction / The Genesis of Eskimo Law Ways in Aboriginal Conflict Resolution / Aboriginal Eskimo Conflict Resolution: An Overview / American Intervention and Eskimo Law Ways / The Village Council / The Contemporary Period: The Magistrate System / Implications for Bush Justice / Conclusion / Bibliograph
