    Kajian dilaksanakan bagi melihat perbandingan di antara kurikulum sains pada masa kini dan kurikulum saintis di Zaman Kegemilangan Tamadun Islam. Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, pengenalpastian dilakukan terhadap kelemahan dan kekuatan dari aspek penerapan nilai murni di dalam penggubalan kurikulum sains pada masa kini dan penerapan karakter nobel pada saintis Muslim di Zaman Kegemilangan Tamadun Islam. Seramai 6 orang pakar dan 2 buah sekolah menengah agama swasta telah dipilih sebagai responden. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri daripada dokumen Kurikulum Sains KBSM, dokumen sorotan pendidikan saintis Muslim di Zaman Kegemilangan Islam dan soalan-soalan temu bual. Analisis kandungan dilakukan terhadap dokumen yang dipilih dan temu bual pula ditranskrip dan dianalisis menggunakan kaedah analisis kandugan. Hasil kajian mendapati terdapat persamaan dan perbezaan antara penerapan nilai murni yang terkandung di dalam Kurikulum Sains KBSM dan karakter nobel pada saintis Muslim. Persamaan yang didapati dari kajian ini adalah terdapat beberapa item nilai murni merupakan pecahan daripada karakter nobel berdasarkan objektif dan matlamat penerapan nilai murni tersebut yang mempunyai persamaan dengan karakter nobel pada saintis Muslim. Manakala perbezaan yang dapat dilihat daripada perbandingan ini adalah karakter nobel pada saintis Muslim lebih menjurus kepada ajaran Islam bagi melahirkan muslim yang berkeperibadian mulia berbanding nilai murni di dalam Kurikulum Sains KBSM yang lebih bersifat kebangsaan. Perbezaan lain yang diperolehi daripada kajian ini adalah kaedah pembentukan karakter nobel yang melalui kaedah berguru berbanding kaedah penerapan nilai murni yang dilaksanakan melalui aktiviti P&P dan kokurikulum di sekolah. Kajian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan implikasi kepada pakar penggubal kurikulum dalam mengenalpasti kekosongan dan kelemahan kurikulum sedia ada dari aspek penerapan nilai murni dan membantu pembentukan kurikulum yang lebih seimbang selaras dengan kehendak masa kini

    WEB 2.0 AUTOMATED ESSAY SCORING APPLICATION AND HUMAN ESL ESSAY ASSESSMENT: A COMPARISON STUDY

    Educators from all levels of education have comfortably embraced ICT for decades. More and more applications are being developed which has direct and indirect advantages on learning and teaching. What is more interesting is the fact that more free applications are now being made available to be used by the public. In this paper, the focus is on the comparison between a free Automated Essay Scoring (AES) web-based application called ā€˜PaperRater.comā€™ and human assessment by English instructors from a public university in Malaysia. Ten selected human assessed essays were assessed by individual lecturer (IL) and also a group of lecturers (GL). Those essays were then fed into ā€˜PaperRater.comā€™ and a comparison was made in terms of total scores generated by the application and the ones by the instructors. A descriptive statistical analysis was carried out to compare the scores. As a result, assessment for both types of essay recorded a difference of between 0.3 to 38.7 marks where bigger disparity was recorded between human assessed and computer based (AES) assessment. Overall, however, the strength of the relationship between GL and PR, based on the Pearsonā€™s product moment correlation coefficient, was recorded at 0.678407 which means that there is a moderate positive linear relationship.Ā  Article visualizations

    Design of power over wi-fi rectifier circuit for IoT based sensor application through simulation

    Energy harvesting has been a phenomena throughout the year as it produces renewable clean energy which not only benefit to the user but also to the environment. Radio frequency energy is among the possible choice that can be harvested for low power usage application. By doing so, low power application such as IoT based sensors can eliminate usage of input power from battery which has limited supply over time or restrained from limited cable length. The objectives of this study are to design a power over Wi-Fi rectifier circuit for IoT based sensor application, analyze the effect of different type of diodes to the power over Wi-Fi rectifier circuit, and determine of minimum voltage required to power an IoT sensor. Cockcroft Walton voltage multiplier configuration was chosen as the rectifier circuit to be employed in the simulation by using Multisim software. With two different Schottky diodes, the output were recorded, and analyzed. Both diode has achieved the minimum required voltage of 3.3V and above for IoT sensors at stage 3. Among the diodes, BAT68 has recorded better output with 4.145V compare to diode BAT17 with 4.090V. Output of diode BAT68 also has reach its stable condition fast than diode BAT17. This configuration can be used and applied in prototype for future study. Even though there are many other factors that need to be considered, radio frequency energy harvesting should be explored more as it promotes clean energy and longevity lifespan as the world are moving wireless in many tasks

    Payment is the heart of businesses. For an online business, electronic-payment (e-payment) plays a significant role to expedite the transaction. Online or e-payment system is not crafted for business as merely profit-oriented but it is offered to all, including government and other non-profit organisation institutions. Nowadays, it can be witnessed that there are various types of e-payment systems available to facilitate online selling and buying transactions. However, e-payment system at philanthropy institutions has received fairly little attention from the public. This is happening even though these institutions have invested a lot of money on e-payment systems. Thus, this study attempts to identify types of e-payment systems at one of the Islamic philanthropic institutions in Malaysia and analyse the performance of e-payment in that institution. The result of this study is hoped to contribute to the body of knowledge particularly in terms of information technology and performance measurement in Islamic philanthropy institutions

    AFGHANISTAN STUDENTSā€™ MOTIVATIONAL DISPOSITIONS IN LEARNING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN MALAYSIA

    This aim of this study is to investigate the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations among the multidisciplinary Afghanistan postgraduate students in learning English as a foreign language. As postgraduate students sponsored by UNESCO, they are to complete their postgraduate studies in several faculties like Applied Sciences and Pharmacy in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Thirty-one postgraduate Afghanistan students responded the google form questionnaire. The questionnaire was adapted from Gardnerā€™s Attitudes/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB). The results revealed that the students are extrinsically motivated rather than intrinsically motivated. The results also reflect that they are motivated by the teacherā€™s personality and pedagogy. There is no difference among the male and female postgraduate Afghan students as far as extrinsic and intrinsic motivations are concerned. Hence, the teaching style and classroom activities are the major motivational factors in learning English. Intrinsically, they also do not believe that knowing English would be able to make them a better person. The results of the present study have echoed previous research studies that highlight the importance of further investigation in extrinsic and intrinsic motivations in Foreign Language Acquisition.Ā  Article visualizations

    Evaluation of carrageenan gel properties at different concentrations of calcium chloride dihydrate salt

    Aromatherapy is an alternative therapy for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) to relieve mild depression in individuals. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of incorporating calcium chloride dihydrate in carrageenan gel to increase stability property. The gel formulation was produced from a mixture of semi-refined carrageenan, sodium benzoate, alginic acid, polyethene glycol (PEG) and sorbitan monolaurate (Span 20) followed by the inclusion of calcium chloride dehydrate (CCD) at 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2% concentrations. The effects of CCD concentration on rheology, gel Bloom strength, morphology, and thermal properties were investigated. The viscosity and shear stress decreased on incorporating of CCD in the carrageenan gel formulation. The highest viscosity of the control gel was 597.84 mPa.s. The intersection of G' and G" at various concentrations of CCD salts in the gel formulation demonstrated that the increment of salt concentration resulted in a faster gelation process in the range 56.6 to 50.43 Ā°C. The gel Bloom strength increased from 830.04 g at 0.5% CCF salt to 1331.39 g at 2% CCD. The highest gel strength of 1324.59 g was achieved with 2% CCD and a melting temperature of 194.4 Ā°C. The weight loss rate for the control gel was 28.88%, the lowest weight loss rate for 2% CCD gel was 11.82%. The residual gel weight was also highest for 2% CCD: 16.74% after 21 days. A high residual gel weight reflects the stability of the carrageenan gel formulation to retain the product and last as aromatherapy gel product. The morphology images showed a highly porous gel structure on addition of CCD salts. In conclusion, CCD salt is capable of forming a strong interaction with the gel matrix to produce a stable gel
