    Teaching Al-Quran among the Army Personels to increase the Level of Discipline

    Discipline has been characterised by several scholars as mental and moral activities that ensure conformity to rules and regulations for the development of society. In any organisation, the core problem that needs to be tackled is the disciplinary problem. Islam has promoted discipline as the interjecting factor which leads to success in this world and hereafter. This descriptive study will be discussing on the disciplinary problems among the army personnel, the contributing factors to the problem as well as coming up with Islamic approach solutions to the problem. Discipline and the military are synonymous and the ability to adhere to the rules that have been determined is the decisive factor which can lead to one's career excellence in the military. Zina, gambling, alcoholism is some of the criminal cases that have been committed by these personnel. It is believed that the occurrences of these cases are due to their lack of religious knowledge and practices (not performing prayers and being ignorant towards the Al-Quran), lack of parental guidance and family problems. This paper will investigate how the principles of Al-Quran can assist in the instillation of discipline as outlined in Islamic teachings among the military personnel. This study will use a qualitative method by reviewing related documents, interviews and carrying out observations. In order to establish high discipline levels within the Malaysian Armed Forces, a more in-depth assessment of the existing disciplinary problems, their contributing elements, and resolving actions based on the principles of the Al-Quran will be conducted

    Program pembangunan kepimpinan meningkatkan pemindahan latihan dalam Tentera Darat Malaysia: kajian empirikal

    Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengukur perhubungan di antara program pembangunan kepimpinan dengan pemindahan latihan. Kaedah tinjauan telah digunakan menerusi borang soal selidik yang diedarkan kepada para pemimpin tentera darat yang bertugas di Semenanjung Malaysia. Analisis model laluan Smart Partial Least Squares (SmartPLS) telah dilaksanakan untuk menguji hipotesis-hipotesis kajian dan keputusan pengujian ini menunjukkan tiga penemuan penting; pertama, kandungan kursus mempunyai perkaitan yang positif dan signifikan dengan pemindahan latihan. Kedua, peranan jurulatih mempunyai perkaitan yang positif tetapi tidak signifikan dengan pemindahan latihan. Ketiga, sokongan pengurusan mempunyai perkaitan yang positif dan signifikan dengan pemindahan latihan. Dapatan ini mengesahkan bahawa kandungan kursus dan sokongan pengurusan telah bertindak sebagai pemboleh ubah peramal yang penting kepada pemindahan latihan. Sebaliknya, peranan jurulatih tidak berupaya bertindak sebagai pemboleh ubah peramal yang penting kepada pemindahan latihan di organisasi kajian.     An Empirical Study of the Relationship between Performance Appraisal Politics and Job Satisfaction

    Performance appraisal politics are viewed as a vital human resource management issuewhere it consists of two salient features: motivational motive and punishment motive. The ability ofappraisers (e.g., immediate bosses/managers) to properly implement such appraisal politics inallocating performance ratings may have significant impact on job satisfaction. Although the nature ofthis relationship is important, little is known about the role of performance appraisal politics as apredicting variable in the performance appraisal models. Therefore, this study was conducted toexamine the effect of performance appraisal politics on job satisfaction using 150 usablequestionnaires gathered from employees who have worked in a national postal company in Sarawak,Malaysia. In initial data analysis, the results of exploratory factor analysis confirmed that themeasurement scales used in this study satisfactorily met the standards of validity and reliabilityanalyses. Further, in hypothesis testing, the outcomes of stepwise regression analysis showed thatperformance appraisal politics (i.e., motivational motive and punishment motive) significantlycorrelated with job satisfaction. Statistically, this result confirms that performance appraisal politicsact as important predictors of job satisfaction in the studied organization.     Pengurusan risiko bencana : membentuk kesedaran komuniti terhadap peredaan dan persiapan

    Kejadian bencana merupakan suatu insiden yang sukar untuk ditetapkan waktu, lokasi, dan impaknya. Kesannya hanya dapat dilihat selepas insiden daripada statistik jumlah korban dan kemusnahan fizikal. Insiden ini kadangkala turut menyebabkan bencana teknologi atau naturalhazard triggered technological accidents (NATECH). Kesannya berkemungkinan mencetuskan letupan, kebakaran, kemusnahan tempat-tempat simpanan kimia, loji pemprosesan dan jajaran paip gas/petroleum, reaktor nuklear, pelepasan toksid dan sebagainya. Hal ini menjadikan komuniti amat terdedah sekiranya tidak ditekankan kepentingan tindakan pencegahan melalui peredaan (mitigation) dan persiapan (preparedness) bagi menghadapi bencana. Keupayaan ini akan memudahkan fasa seterusnya dalam pengurusan bencana, iaitu fasa tindakbalas (response) dan pemulihan (recovery). Oleh itu, objektif kajian ini bertujuan: (i) mengenal pasti elemenelemen utama dalam fasa peredaan dan persiapan menghadapi bencana; dan (ii) mencadangkan kerangka bagi pengukuran fasa pencegahan dan persiapan menghadapi bencana. Pembentukan kerangka ini merupakan gabungan penganalisisan dokumen, serta temu bual, pemerhatian dan perbincangan kumpulan fokus terhadap 129 responden di Penampang, Sabah; Miri dan Bintulu, Sarawak; Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan; Daerah Barat Daya dan Timur Laut, Pulau Pinang; Petaling Jaya dan Shah Alam, Selangor; dan Daerah Hulu Perak, Perak. Dapatan kajian ini menemukan beberapa elemen utama iaitu pengetahuan, pengalaman, sikap, pendedahan serta kesedaran bertindakbalas yang mempengaruhi persepsi individu terhadap bencana dan memberi kesan terhadap aktiviti peredaan dan persiapan dalam menghadapi bencana. Kajian ini dijangkakan dapat membantu pihak-pihak yang berkaitan dalam pengurusan bencana bagi merangka dan merekabentuk modul-modul aktiviti dan kurikulum latihan/pendidikan berkaitan peredaan dan persiapan dalam pengurusan bencana khususnya NATECH

    Peranan pihak pengurusan dan persekitaran merupakan elemen yang penting dalam menyokong pelaksanaan sesuatu program pendidikan yang membentuk karakter pelajar. Signifikan kajian ini adalah kerana pembentukan karakter pelajar sering dilihat dari aspek dalam kelas sahaja tanpa mengetengahkan peranan pihak pengurusan serta persekitaran kolej. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur hubungan sokongan pihak pengurusan dan persekitaran kolej dalam pelaksanaan Program Mukmin Profesional (PMP) terhadap pembentukan karakter kepimpinan insaniah pelajar di Kolej Profesional MARA (KPM). Subjek kajian terdiri daripada 674 orang pelajar semester akhir di KPM seluruh Malaysia. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif dengan menganalisis dapatan kajian menggunakan model perisian SmartPLS. Hasil kajian mengesahkan sokongan pihak pengurusan dan sokongan persekitaran bertindak sebagai peramal yang penting kepada pembentukan karakter kepimpinan insaniah pelajar. Berdasarkan perspektif statistik, dapatan kajian ini telah mengesahkan hipotesis bahawa konstruk sokongan pihak pengurusan dan konstruk sokongan persekitaran mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan kepada pembentukan karakter kepimpinan insaniah pelajar di KPM. Hasil kajian ini akan menjadi kayu ukur dalam memperkasakan lagi peranan kedua-dua elemen tersebut serta mengenalpasti elemen-elemen utama yang menyumbang kepada pemerkasaan karakter pelajar yang akan menjadi pelapis kepimpinan negara sejajar dengan Pindaan Undang-undang Perlembagaan Persekutuan yang menjadikan golongan belia memainkan peranan yang lebih besar dalam pembentukan kepimpinan negara bangsa

    Numerical Assessment on Training Motivation, Syllabus and Instructor’s Roles in Military Training Program Using PLS

    Training management literature emphasized the designing of training program consist of three important elements: (1) training syllabus; (2) instructors’ roles; and (3) superiors’ support, which may lead to a high impact of training transfer in organizations. However, the role of training motivation as a mediator is given less explanation in the training program. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate and quantify the effect of training motivation in the military training. The measurements were using 329 usable questionnaires gathered from Royal Malay Regiment personnel of Malaysian Army. The outcomes of hypotheses testing showed these interesting findings: training motivation does act as an important mediating variable between training syllabus and instructors’ roles in the relationship with training transfer, whilst there are no mediation effect in relationship between superiors’ support and training transfer. Further, discussion, implications and conclusion are elaborated

    The objective of this study is to examine the mediating effects of training motivation in the relationship between assignment methods and transfer of training using data gathered from survey questionnaires on military intermediate level officers in Malaysia. The statistical tool SmartPLS was employed to test the research hypotheses.The result indicated that training motivation was found to be an important mediator in the hypothesized relationship in Malaysian context. The study is significant particularly for training administration department and organizational managers directly related to training.     Media Information, Flood Images, and Perceptions in Times of Flood

    Disasters in Malaysia are managed using a framework developed through Directive 20 by the National Security Council. This framework is widely used in managing floods on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. However, the prolonged rains that occurred on 17 December 2021 tested the capabilities of the existing framework: the rains caused floods in urban areas, which is unusual. This study was conducted to investigate the flood situation using data from the media, observations of the affected area, and people’s perceptions to determine their actions upon receiving flood information from the media. This study used thematic analysis to analyze the media content on the floods in Selangor. Next, observation techniques were used in one of the most affected areas, namely Hulu Langat, Selangor, where content analysis of field notes was implemented to determine the emerging themes that were being formed. Finally, an online survey questionnaire was distributed through social media. This study’s findings established that what was reported in the media was correct; however, what actually occurred was worse than what was stated in the media. Through the survey, it was found that people are extremely reliant on social media and assume that logistical constraints in the delivery of assistance have contributed to negative public perceptions of disaster management agencies
