White Mirror: Leaking Sensitive Information from Interactive Netflix Movies using Encrypted Traffic Analysis

Privacy leaks from Netflix videos/movies is well researched. Current state-of-the-art works have been able to obtain coarse-grained information such as the genre and the title of videos by passive observation of encrypted traffic. However, leakage of fine-grained information from encrypted traffic has not been studied so far. Such information can be used to build behavioural profiles of viewers. On 28th December 2018, Netflix released the first mainstream interactive movie called 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch'. In this work, we use this movie as a case-study to show for the first time that fine-grained information (i.e., choices made by users) can be revealed from encrypted traffic. We use the state information exchanged between the viewer's browser and Netflix as the side-channel. To evaluate our proposed technique, we built the first interactive video traffic dataset of 100 viewers; which we will be releasing. Preliminary results indicate that the choices made by a user can be revealed 96% of the time in the worst case.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl

Issues and Opportunities of Niche Tourism Markets- Understanding South India Wine Tourism

Wine tourism is one of the best ways to take the tourist for an offbeat experience and it also helps in understanding the local culture and cuisine. Wine tourism is now recognized as an important aspect of destination promotion all across the globe. It is a niche type of tourism, whose principal feature is given by the wine and the wine-production places and wine consumers. Wine tourism can be defined as "visitation to vineyards, wineries, wine festivals and wine shows for which grape wine tasting and/or experiencing the attributes of a grape wine region are the prime motivating factors for visitors (Hall and Macionis)". This definition is apt because it encompasses the various destinations most frequently sought by wine tourists and reinforces the fact that there are different reasons tourists go to a particular destination. Today, wine tourism is acknowledged as a growing area of special-interest tourism throughout the world and it is an increasingly important tourism component of for many wine producing states. With its wide range of advantages, including foreign-exchange earnings, the creation of both full- and part-time jobs, and the generation of secondary economic activity, wine tourism is emerging as a lucrative industry sector. The ability to generate substantial long-term wealth and sustain steady tourism growth for these regions also helps in understanding the changing consumer dynamics. In the last 10 years the growth of wine Industry, particularly in India has led to a spurt in wineries and improved extended tourist stay and spending power. In the last five years wine tourism has become a key market driver for South Indian cities like Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad resulting in mushrooming new wine industries, wine festivals, wine lounges and other wine related activities. With Government aim at increasing grape cultivation, and encouraging more wineries, and wine-production units declared as food processing industry one can expect concessions to boost the sector. Furthermore relaxing the license-issuing procedure, there has been a substantial increase in winery owners in these cities. This sudden gain of optimism among the industry, government and consumers in these cities has resulted in critical developmental issues of sustainability and long term profitability. The study undertakes a review of existing activities, deals with issues related to wine tourism. The aim is to analyze whether government promoted wine festivals have had an impact on the tourism sector.  In addition the research will also detail if wine dinners and wine activations carried by the companies have resulted in heightened tourist inflow and improved destination awareness. The study identifies challenges and makes prospective suggestions with respect to an action plan that will develop urban wine tourism in metro cities of south India. Medorog (obesity) has been described extensively in various Ayurvedic texts. Acharya Charak has described Medorog among the eight most unwanted diseases (Ninditpurush) Samtarpanajanita Roga. Medorog can be compared with obesity in modern terminology. Obesity is the condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and increased health problems. The most important cause of obesity is an energy imbalance between the calories consumed and calories expended which leads to the accumulation of fat. In 21st century, obesity is not less than any epidemic targeting more and more people every day. Over one out of every five persons in the world is obese. Obesity is such a disease which provides the platform for many life threatening hazards like dyslipidaemia etc. A case of Medorog associated with dyslipidaemia managed successfully by Ayurvedic treatment is reported here. A 49 year old female having sign and symptoms of Medorog was treated with Vyoshadiguggulu, a formulation of Ashtang Hridya in the dosage of 1gm. three times a day with 1 table Spoon of honey and lukewarm water for 90 days. Patient showed remarkable improvement in Obesity and dyslipidaemia after the treatment

Decentralized and stable matching in Peer-to-Peer energy trading

In peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading, a secured infrastructure is required to manage trade and record monetary transactions. A central server/authority can be used for this. But there is a risk of central authority influencing the energy price. So blockchain technology is being preferred as a secured infrastructure in P2P trading. Blockchain provides a distributed repository along with smart contracts for trade management. This reduces the influence of central authority in trading. However, these blockchain-based systems still rely on a central authority to pair/match sellers with consumers for trading energy. The central authority can interfere with the matching process to profit a selected set of users. Further, a centralized authority also charges for its services, thereby increasing the cost of energy. We propose two distributed mechanisms to match sellers with consumers. The first mechanism doesn't allow for price negotiations between sellers and consumers, whereas the second does. We also calculate the time complexity and the stability of the matching process for both mechanisms. Using simulation, we compare the influence of centralized control and energy prices between the proposed and the existing mechanisms. The overall work strives to promote the free market and reduce energy prices

Advancements in semiconductor technology, embedded automotive computing, AI/ML computing and cloud computing has recently helped automotive industry to reach to provide the next generation vehicular experience such as self-driving cars, advanced safety features, cloud-based fleet management, highly efficient automotive manufacturing, connected cars, telematics and many more. Automotive or vehicular industry also started focus on providing better driving experience, in vehicle connectivity, entertainment, remote vehicle diagnostics and driver assistance, etc. Automotive cloud computing is one such domain which helped automotive industry to scale itself to connect the vehicles to cloud and remotely manage and control the vehicles, provide emergency assistance, data science and analytics services to dealers, insurance companies, car manufacturers, fleet management, etc. In this paper we present the research of recent advancements of automotive industry especially using cloud computing and how the cloud computing frameworks are making huge impact on auto industry such as advance driver’s profiles management using cloud framework. This paper also discusses the implementation approach for electronically managing the vehicle and driver’s preferences for their next generation electric and hybrid vehicles. And the paper proposes the smartphone’s NFC or BLE based driver’s profiles management approach

    MARKET ACCESS FOR HIGH-VALUE FOODS

    Get PDF
Market access remains a major impediment for expansion of global trade in high-value foods, particularly processed foods. Countries use tariffs and other measures that effectively stimulate imports of relatively unprocessed agricultural commodities at the expense of processed products. Tariff escalation, in which tariffs rise with the level of processing, discourages trade in high-value foods, and trade remedy measures, such as antidumping duties, are concentrated among high-value products. Globalization has provided countries with easier access to capital and technology needed to produce processed food, further affecting trade patterns and markets for high-value foods. A uniform cut in tariffs increases trade in high-value foods more than trade in raw agricultural commodities and improves real wages in developing and developed countries.Food trade, processed food, high-value foods, tariff, tariff escalation, trade remedy measures, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, safeguard measures, revealed comparative advantage, trade complementarities, International Relations/Trade,
