    Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Parotid Gland in a Young Female: A Rare Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Solitary fibrous tumor is a rare tumor of the salivary gland. To date, 27 cases have been reported. The clinical and radiological features are the same as other lesions of the parotid gland. Hence, light microscopy and immunostaining is important to confirm the diagnosis. Fine needle aspiration cytology yield depends on the area sampled and can be inconclusive in many cases. Treatment of choice is complete surgical excision with regular long-term follow up. Most cases are benign, however three malignant cases have been reported. Here, we report a case of solitary fibrous tumor in the parotid gland seen in a 14-year old female diagnosed by histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry analysis

    Background: The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an extremely contagious illness that spreads mostly via the dentistry practice. Patients in need of dental care are at a higher risk of becoming infected with and becoming carriers of the illness. Aim: To assess the COVID-19-related knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of patients visiting dental outpatient department of M.G.M. Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients visiting dental outpatient department of M.G.M. Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India were included. The questionnaire had four sections including demographic information, knowledge, attitudes, and practice in relation to COVID-19. Along with computation of descriptive statistics, data analysis was performed using unpaired t-test. Results: A total of 332 people took part in the research. The female respondents were higher in number (53.01%) and the highest percentage of the respondents belongs to the age group 18–40 years (55.72%). Nearly, 98% of respondents were vaccinated. The highest percentage of KAP level was recorded for knowledge (74.95%) followed by that of attitude (50.84%) and practices (37.05%). Conclusion: While respondents' overall knowledge was high but their enthusiasm for taking preventative measures was low, and their efforts to stem the pandemic were lagging at best. Future campaigns should focus more on reaching out to marginalized populations, such as those with less education or higher poverty rates

    ABC transportome inventory of human pathogenic yeast Candida glabrata: Phylogenetic and expression analysis.

    ATP-binding cassette (ABC) is one of the two major superfamilies of transporters present across the evolutionary scale. ABC superfamily members came to prominence due to their ability to extrude broad spectrum of substrates and to confer multi drug resistance (MDR). Overexpression of some ABC transporters in clinical isolates of Candida species was attributed to the development of MDR phenotypes. Among Candida species, Candida glabrata is an emerging drug resistant species in human fungal infections. A comprehensive analysis of such proteins in C. glabrata is required to untangle their role not only in MDR but also in other biological processes. Bioinformatic analysis of proteins encoded by genome of human pathogenic yeast C. glabrata identified 25 putative ABC protein coding genes. On the basis of phylogenetic analysis, domain organization and nomenclature adopted by the Human Genome Organization (HUGO) scheme, these proteins were categorized into six subfamilies such as Pleiotropic Drug Resistance (PDR)/ABCG, Multi Drug Resistance (MDR)/ABCB, Multi Drug Resistance associated Protein (MRP)/ABCC, Adrenoleukodystrophy protein (ALDp)/ABCD, RNase L Inhibitor (RLI)/ABCE and Elongation Factor 3 (EF3)/ABCF. Among these, only 18 ABC proteins contained transmembrane domains (TMDs) and were grouped as membrane proteins, predominantly belonging to PDR, MDR, MRP, and ALDp subfamilies. A comparative phylogenetic analysis of these ABC proteins with other yeast species revealed their orthologous relationship and pointed towards their conserved functions. Quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis of putative membrane localized ABC protein encoding genes of C. glabrata confirmed their basal expression and showed variable transcriptional response towards antimycotic drugs. This study presents first comprehensive overview of ABC superfamily proteins of a human fungal pathogen C. glabrata, which is expected to provide an important platform for in depth analysis of their physiological relevance in cellular processes and drug resistance

    Ocular morbidities among glass factory workers at district Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, India

    Introduction- The health hazard of glass factories has been classified in the ILO encyclopedia. Injuries, heat exhaustion, respiratory morbidity, ophthalmic morbidity, and nephrolithiasis are conditions in Glass factories worldwide. Material and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted in the small-scale glass factory situated in the district Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, to estimate the eye conditions among glass factory workers. Informed consent was obtained from 140 respondents. The visual acuity was measured using Snellen's chart placed at six meters with adequate illumination. Each eye was tested separately for refractive error with and without glasses (where applicable), the dry eye with Schirmer strip, cataract with torchlight and direct ophthalmoscope, Conjunctivitis, and later refracted using retinoscope Trial & error method. Data analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSSv16). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to present the results of the study.  Results: This study screened 140 participants, 2 of whom were female and 138 of whom were male. In a survey of 140 factory employees (76.42%), respondents reported no ocular complaints while at work. In (23.57%) of the employees, Asthenopic symptoms continued. 15.71% were reported feeling dryness at work.&nbsp
