Nishisako, Morikami and Kuwabara (1996) indicate that sought information structure consists of the information about present self, the information about future self, the information about others, the information about daily life, the information about society, the information about mystical phenomenon. The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of self-esteem on the intensity of interest for information. Investigation is carried out by using 160 undergraduate students. The analysis and result were as follows. Firstly, the effect of self-esteem on six each factor of sought information structure was examined by analysis of variance. However, there were no significant main effect. Secondly, the effect of self-esteem on each item of seeked information structure was examined by analysis of variance. The result is that, there were several significant main effects

This papar is the first of a series in which the result of a study of seeking information behavior. The purpose of this study is to determine the seeked information structure. In the first investigation with 135 college students, 86 items concerning seeked information were obtained. In the second investigation with 274 college students, factor analysis for 86 item were carried out. The result may be taken to indicate that seekd information structure consists of the information about present self, the information about future self, the information about others, the information about daily life, the information about society, and the information about mystical phenomenon.

The purpose of this paper is to describe how self-consciousness has influence on intensity of interest for information. We used a questionnaire for measuring the intensity of interest for information. It consists of items of interest for information about the present self, information about the future self, information about others, information about daily life, information about society, and information about mystical phenomenon. Another questionnaire was used for measuring self-consciousness. It consists of items of private self-consciousness, public self-consciousness, and social anxiety. The investigation was carried out using 160 undergraduate students. The results of investigation show that there were significant differences on intensity of interest for information about the present self and information about others between high and low private self-consciousness. There were also significant differences on the intensity of interest for information about the present self and information about others and information about daily life between high and low public self-consciousness. There were no significant differences on the intensity of interest for information of all between high and low social anxiety.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the qualitative differences between high and low intensity of seeking information. We have made three studies. In Study 1, it is shown that seeking items of information can be evaluated in tenns of the degree of intensity. We divided information seeking into low and high intensity of seeking information. In Study 2, we carried out factor analysis on high intensity information seeking. We found eight relevant factors ; information about self, information about profit, information about procedure, information about appearance, information about impossible profit, information about entertainment, information about others, and information about daily life. In Study 3, we carried out factor analysis on low intensity information seeking. As a result, we again found eight factors ; information about love and marriage, information about mystical phenomena, information about daily life, information about society, information about others, information about appearance, information about family, and information about physical things. The implication of research was that seeking information has two qualities : information independent of a given situation and information dependent on a given situation

The purpose of this study was to investigate the components of social justice. Through a pilot survey, data on many situations involving socical justice were collected. These were organized into 55 items, and factor analysis was carried out on each of these. The results classified social justice situations into three types: 1) consideration for interpersonal relations, 2) desirability in social systems, 3) honesty of personality. The purpose of the second study was to analyze these situations in detail

The predictability of graft thickness for Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty using a mechanical microkeratome system

Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) is used for treating corneal endothelial dysfunction, and the postoperative visual acuity outcome depends on the thickness of the graft. We created a simple nomogram using factors affecting the cutting thickness during graft preparation via a mechanical microkeratome system for DSAEK. This retrospective study was conducted from May 2018 through October 2022 and included donor eyes cut by automatic methods. We measured the graft thickness, cutting accuracy, and assessed ten variables with donor/cornea-related factors potentially affecting the cutting thickness. Subsequently, we created a simple nomogram. We analyzed 81 donor tissues, and the donor median age was 76 years. The mean central graft thickness was 122.2 μm, with 62% of the grafts that could be cut within the target central graft thickness range. Comparatively, donor corneas from those with cardiac diseases were cut deeper (P = 0.007). The developed nomogram provided a 83% probability of estimating the post-cutting graft thickness within 25 µm. Our nomogram, which considers cause of death, enables reproducible production of graft of a desired thickness. A detailed analysis of donor tissues, including the cause of donor death and the characteristics from pressurization to cutting, will enable more precise DSAEK graft preparation

In the present study and the following paper in this series, we propose to examine the determination of the process of criterion of behavior. The purpose of this study is to examine the interrelationship among personal characteristics and the recognition of problems to solve. Investigation is carried out by using 160 undergraduate students. The results suggested that the factors of anxiety, locus of control, self-esteem and criterion of behavior influenced the recognition of problems to solve

An examination of convergency in the structure of seeked information

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine 1) the intensity of interests for information, 2) the effect of sex difference on the intensity of interests for information, and 3) the structure of intensity for information. The data used in this study have been already described elsewhere (Nishisako, Morikami & Kuwahara, 1996). From the analysis of this study, then, it may be concluded: 1) possibility that the intensity of interests for information is regulated by accessibility, involvement, effect, benefits, and ambiguity of judgement is admitted, 2) the factor of sex difference evidently effects on the intensity of interests for information, and 3) the result of the cluster analsis indicates that interests for information can converge procedual knowledge cluster and declatative knowledge cluster
