High density linkage mapping of genomic and transcriptomic SNPs for synteny analysis and anchoring the genome sequence of chickpea
This study presents genome-wide discovery of SNPs through next generation sequencing of the genome of Cicer reticulatum. Mapping of the C. reticulatum sequenced reads onto the draft genome assembly of C. arietinum (desi chickpea) resulted in identification of 842,104 genomic SNPs which were utilized along with an additional 36,446 genic SNPs identified from transcriptome sequences of the aforementioned varieties. Two new chickpea Oligo Pool All (OPAs) each having 3,072 SNPs were designed and utilized for SNP genotyping of 129 Recombinant Inbred Lines (RILs). Using Illumina GoldenGate Technology genotyping data of 5,041 SNPs were generated and combined with the 1,673 marker data from previously published studies, to generate a high resolution linkage map. The map comprised of 6698 markers distributed on eight linkage groups spanning 1083.93 cM with an average inter-marker distance of 0.16 cM. Utility of the present map was demonstrated for improving the anchoring of the earlier reported draft genome sequence of desi chickpea by ~30% and that of kabuli chickpea by 18%. The genetic map reported in this study represents the most dense linkage map of chickpea , with the potential to facilitate efficient anchoring of the draft genome sequences of desi as well as kabuli chickpea varieties

Autophagy and EMT in cancer and metastasis: Who controls whom?
Metastasis consists of hallmark events, including Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT), angiogenesis, initiation of inflammatory tumor microenvironment, and malfunctions in apoptosis. Autophagy is known to play a pivotal role in the metastatic process. Autophagy has pulled researchers towards it in recent times because of its dual role in the maintenance of cancer cells. Evidence states that cells undergoing EMT need autophagy in order to survive during migration and dissemination. Additionally, it orchestrates EMT markers in certain cancers. On the other side of the coin, autophagy plays an oncosuppressive role in impeding early metastasis. This review aims to project the interrelationship between autophagy and EMT. Targeting EMT via autophagy as a useful strategy is discussed in this review. Furthermore, for the first time, we have covered the possible reciprocating roles of EMT and autophagy and its consequences in cancer metastasis
An overview of vaccine development for COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to endanger world health and the economy. The causative SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has a unique replication system. The end point of the COVID-19 pandemic is either herd immunity or widespread availability of an effective vaccine. Multiple candidate vaccines - peptide, virus-like particle, viral vectors (replicating and nonreplicating), nucleic acids (DNA or RNA), live attenuated virus, recombinant designed proteins and inactivated virus - are presently under various stages of expansion, and a small number of vaccine candidates have progressed into clinical phases. At the time of writing, three major pharmaceutical companies, namely Pfizer and Moderna, have their vaccines under mass production and administered to the public. This review aims to investigate the most critical vaccines developed for COVID-19 to date
Baryogenesis from Primordial Blackholes after Electroweak Phase Transition
Incorporating a realistic model for accretion of ultra-relativistic particles
by primordial blackholes (PBHs), we study the evolution of an Einstein-de
Sitter universe consisting of PBHs embedded in a thermal bath from the epoch
sec to sec. In this paper we use Barrow
et al's ansatz to model blackhole evaporation in which the modified Hawking
temperature goes to zero in the limit of the blackhole attaining a relic state
with mass . Both single mass PBH case as well as the case in which
blackhole masses are distributed in the range gm
have been considered in our analysis. Blackholes with mass larger than gm appear to survive beyond the electroweak phase transition and,
therefore, successfully manage to create baryon excess via
emissions, averting the baryon number wash-out due to sphalerons. In this
scenario, we find that the contribution to the baryon-to-entropy ratio by PBHs
of initial mass is given by , where
and are the CP-violating parameter and the initial mass
fraction of the PBHs, respectively. For larger than ,
the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe can be attributed to
the evaporation of PBHs.Comment: Latex2e file with seven figures included as postscript file
Consumer Complaints and Company Market Value
Consumer complaints affect company market value and common sense suggests that a negative impact is
expected. However, do complaints always negatively impact company market value? We hypothesize in this
study that complaints may have a non-linear effect on market value. Positive (e.g. avoiding high costs to solve
complaints) and negative (e.g. speedy and intense diffusion) tradeoffs may occur given the level of complaints.
To test our non-linear hypothesis, a panel data was collected from cell phone service providers from 2005 to
2013. The results supported our tradeoff rationale. Low levels of complaints allow for companies to increase
market value, while high levels of complaints cause increasing harm to market value. The sample, model and
period considered in this study, indicates a level of 0.49 complaints per thousand consumers as the threshold for
a shift in tradeoffs. The effects on market value become increasingly negative when trying to make reductions to
move below this level, due to negative tradeoffs
An algorithm for nano-pipelining of circuits and architectures for a nanotechnology.
Abstract — In this paper, we describe an algorithm to post-process a register-transfer level (RTL) architecture to enable gate-level pipelining or nano-pipelining for the nanotechnology based on resonant tunneling diodes (RTDs). Nano-pipelining offers the opportunity to obtain massive throughput and, therefore, has applications in data-intensive algorithms such as digital signal processing (DSP). Since RTDs are a self-latching nanotechnology, nano-pipelining is an implicit property that should be exploited for this technology. The novelty of this work lies in exploring and demonstrating the benefits of nano-pipelining and presenting an algorithm for architectural nano-pipelining. I
