In CP Grice proposes four conversational maxims : Quantity, Quality, Relation, and Manner. Speakers sometimes flout the conversational maxims, so do characters in The Secret Agent. The flouting and hedging the conversational maxims can be done through figures of speech

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RECIPROCAL TEACHING IN READING CLASS

    This research was conducted to find out how the application of reciprocal teaching can improve student’s understanding in reading subject. The application of Reciprocal Teaching can help university students as prospective educators to be able to improve their creativity. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which had four steps of research procedures namely planning, implementing, observing, and analyzing. The subjects of this study were fourth semester students of Kanjuruhan University of Malang who took critical reading course. To achieve the criteria for success, researchers took two cycles by adopting theories from Kemmis and Taggart. In the first cycle, students who achieved success criteria were 43.47%. However, the success criteria targeted by researchers were75%. In the second cycle the success rate of students reached 82.60%. The conclusion of this study is that teaching reading using reciprocal can increase student motivation and increase student interaction. Because interaction with other students and with lecturer increases, motivation to learn and confidence also increases, it can also improve student learning outcomes. Positive competitiveness is also shown by students bravely expressing their ideas quickly. The application of reciprocal teaching in the class has problems including controlling classroom situations, there are some students who rely on their friends in doing work, and there are some students who are a bit selfish and feel that working together in working on problems makes them slow because they have to explain their opinions and then put forward in front of the class

    The implementation of community service aimed at improving the English proficiency of the students in study house. The methods applied in this training were the provision of materials and practice. The provision of materials was the provision of guidance and explanation of the theory of English. After that, the teacher gave the questions and asked the students to do and practice dialogue in English. There were two study houses namely home study in Sido Rahayu and in Pandan Landung. The results of the activities were: at Sido Rahayu home study: 100% students always came and followed the activities held twice a week. 90% students understood the material and could work on the questions given by the teacher in writing. 80% students could do independently and could do a conversation.At Pandan Landung home study: 100% students always actively came. 75% students really understood the material and could work on the questions in writing. 6o% students could do independently the problems given by teachers and could do a simple conversation

    Pengabdian ini berangkat dari permasalahan ibu-ibu yang kurang mempunyai ketrampilan dan pendidikan yang memadai untuk bekerja di kantor. Maka untuk memberi solusi tersebut diadakan PKM yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan ibu-ibu PKK di lingkungan RT 1 sampai RT 4, RW 8 Kelurahan Gadang Kecamatan Sukun dengan membuat sesuatu yang bermakna yakni pelatihan pembuatan hantaran pengantin dari bahan yang sederhana. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan adalah pemberian materi dan praktek. Pada akhir dari kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini peserta sudah dapat menunjukkan hasil nyata dari pelatihan berupa hantaran pengantin yaitu handuk dan mukenah yang dibentuk serupa hewan dan kemudian dikemas sehingga siap menjadi hantaran pengantin. Tim mempunyai pendapat bahwa hasil kreasi dari ibu-ibu peserta pelatihan cukup bagus dan kreatif dengan rincian 60% memiliki nilai tinggi dan 40% memiliki nilai sedang

    Gua Ceremony is part of Olaia tradition and an event which is interesting to analyze because there are many kinds of symbols used in it. Gua ceremony is not separated from language. By using language, we can express our thought, idea, emotion, and feeling, because language is an important aspect of human life and social communication among the members of society. It is interesting to study Gua ceremony linguistically, especially in semantic. Therefore, the researcher is interested in studying this problem by formulating five researcher problems such as: how does the process of implementation of Gua ceremony on Olaia village, sub-district Aesesa, District Nagekeo,what are the symbols and symbols meaning on Olaia village, sub-district Aesesa, District Nagekeo. What are functions of Gua ceremony on Olaia village, sub-district Aesesa, District Nagekeo, and What are values appeared from Gua ceremony on Olaia village, sub-district Aesesa, District Nagekeo? This study has two significances of the study,  theoretically and practically. Theoretically, the result of this study will give the description about the symbols used in Gua ceremony. Practically, the researcher hopes this research is useful to enrich the description of Gua ceremony and as additional knowledge for people or student both from Nagekeo or others.  The research of this thesis is qualitative research. It is intended to describe about the symbols, and also their meaning used in Gua ceremony. Besides the researcher himself as the key instruments, the instruments used in this study are documentation, observation, and interview. From the result of this study, it was obvious that Gua ceremony used some symbols. And every symbol has its own meaning
