    Latent coronary artery disease among smokers and smokeless tobacco users: a cross-sectional study

    Background: Tobacco related mortality and morbidity and increase in developing country like India. WHO projected till 2020 India will accounts 15% of tobacco related mortality especially preventable causes of death e.g. cardiovascular disease. Active tobacco smoking is undoubtedly major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, but subjects use smokeless tobacco in dependence pattern is not extensively evaluated for cardiovascular risk factor. In India smokeless tobacco especially Khaini is major form of tobacco consumption. Scarcity of data on effects of smokeless tobacco in cardiovascular disease especially coronary artery disease major limiting factor for undermine the detailed evaluation of cardiovascular effects in smokeless tobacco dependence subjects. The aim of the study was to study the risk of coronary artery disease among smokeless tobacco dependence in comparison to tobacco dependence smokers.Methods: Cross-sectional assessments were done on 36 adults (>18 years), treatment-seeking patients with a ICD 10 diagnosis of Mental and behavioral disorders due to use of tobacco. Data was collected on socio-demographic characteristics, and after detailed clinical evaluation treadmill exercise test was done.Results: Mean age of tobacco dependence smokers 51.5±9.6 years vs 53.6±7.5 years. There were male predominant in study subjects and 38% subjects was treadmill test positive. Smokeless tobacco users had 35% positive treadmill test, and among Smokers 42% subjects was positive for treadmill test.Conclusions: Risk for latent coronary artery disease was similarly higher in smokers and smokeless tobacco dependence subjects

    Spin waves in the (0,pi) and (0,pi,pi) ordered SDW states of the t-t' Hubbard model: Application to doped iron pnictides

    Spin waves in (0,pi) and (0,pi,pi) ordered spin-density-wave (SDW) states of the t-t' Hubbard model are investigated at finite doping. In the presence of small t', these composite ferro-antiferromagnetic (F-AF) states are found to be strongly stabilized at finite hole doping due to enhanced carrier-induced ferromagnetic spin couplings as in metallic ferromagnets. Anisotropic spin-wave velocities, spin-wave energy scale of around 200meV, reduced magnetic moment, and rapid suppression of magnetic order with electron doping x (corresponding to F substitution of O atoms in La O_{1-x} F_x Fe As or Ni substitution of Fe atoms in Ba Fe_{2-x} Ni_x As_2) obtained in this model are in agreement with observed magnetic properties of doped iron pnictides.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure

    Role of Hund's coupling in stabilization of the (0,pi) ordered SDW state within the minimal two-band model for iron pnictides

    Spin wave excitations and stability of the (0,pi) ordered SDW state are investigated within the minimal two-band model for iron pnictides including a Hund's coupling term. The SDW state is shown to be stable in two distinct doping regimes --- finite hole doping in the lower SDW band for small second neighbour hoppings, and small electron doping in the upper SDW band for comparable first and second neighbour hoppings. In both cases, Hund's coupling strongly stabilizes the SDW state due to generation of additional ferromagnetic spin couplings involving the inter-orbital part of the particle-hole propagator. Spin wave energies for the two-band model are very similar to the one-band t-t' Hubbard model results obtained earlier, and are in agreement with inelastic neutron scattering studies of iron pnictides.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
