Quantitative flavonoid variations of Artemisia vulgaris L. and Veronica chamaedrys L. in relation to altitude and polluted environment

    Get PDF
Influence of altitudinal gradient and polluted environment on externally accumulated flavonoid aglycones were examined. Contents of apigenin in Veronica chamaedrys L. and quercetin 3,7,3’-trimethyl ether in Artemisia vulgaris L. were determinated. The highest apigenin level was found in populations at alpine regions, whereas no relation was found between quercetin 3,7,3’-trimethyl ether and altitude. The largest amounts of quercetin 3,7,3’-trimethyl ether was found in samples collected from industrial polluted habitats. Ecological significance on external flavonoid aglycones is discussed

    Anesthetic considerations for microlaryngeal surgery

    Get PDF
Introduction: Microlaryngeal surgery encompasses a wide range of laryngeal procedures. Patients presenting for microlaryngeal surgery frequently have a difficult airway. The chosen approach to this airway depends on the pathology and the patient’s symptoms. The Aim of the study is to determine the risk factors and anesthetic problems during microlaryngeal surgery.Materials and Methods: A prospective cohort study including 100 patients undergoing microlaryngeal surgery in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University Hospital „Queen Giovanna“ – ISUL, Sofia, in the period 2020–2021; Medical University-Sofia. Preoperative examination of the larynx is performed in all patients by Storz 8402 ZX fiber optic laryngoscope with video capability. Results and discussion: In 69% of the patients the tumor mass causing obstruction is localized in the area of the larynx, and in 31% of them the tumor mass is localized in the area of the hypopharynx. From the patients with tumor mass causing laryngeal obstruction 42% are with 1st degree of obstruction, 29% are with 2nd degree, 27% are with 3rd degree and 2% are with respiratory failure at rest. Twenty six percent (26%) of the patients had pulse rate<45 beats per minute during putting on the tube of Kleinsasser. This is very dangerous reflex reaction of the heart, which we believe is caused by parasympathetic nervous system. The rate of difficult endotracheal intubation among patients presenting for microlaryngeal surgery is higher than among the general surgical patient population. Difficulties during endotracheal intubation in our study are due to higher percent of laryngeal obstruction and pharyngeal restriction because of the intraoral masses. Conclusion: Anesthesia for microlaryngeal surgery has always been demanding, as often pathology interferes with the anesthesiologist’s field of work

<br

INFLUENCE OF PIRACETAM ON ERYTHROPOIESIS IN RATS

    Get PDF
The effects of piracetam (2 x 200 mg/kg b. w.) injected intraperitoneally for three days on erythropoiesis and some functional characteristics of erythrocytes were studied in Wistar rats. A significant increase of reticulocytes in relative (by 122,03 %, p < 0,01) and in absolute counts (by 109,29 %, p < 0,01), an increase of 59Fе incorporation in newly-formed erythrocytes (by 13,80 %) and a significant rise of erythroblasts as followed: total counts (by 59,39 %, p < 0,01), proerythroblasts (by 52,87 %, p < 0,05), and orthochromatic erythroblasts (by 54,25 %, p< 0,01) were observed in the piracetamtreated rats. It was accepted that piracetam stimulated erythroid proliferation and differentiation. Erythroid deformability enhanced by 14,69 % (p < 0,01) but spontaneous haemolysis of erythrocytes reduced by 16,95 % (p < 0,025). Thus it could be suggested that piracetam, along with its stimulatory effect on erythropoiesis, improves some of the most important functional characteristics of erythrocytes such as deformability and oxidative resistance

Tractable Pathfinding for the Stochastic On-Time Arrival Problem

We present a new and more efficient technique for computing the route that maximizes the probability of on-time arrival in stochastic networks, also known as the path-based stochastic on-time arrival (SOTA) problem. Our primary contribution is a pathfinding algorithm that uses the solution to the policy-based SOTA problem---which is of pseudo-polynomial-time complexity in the time budget of the journey---as a search heuristic for the optimal path. In particular, we show that this heuristic can be exceptionally efficient in practice, effectively making it possible to solve the path-based SOTA problem as quickly as the policy-based SOTA problem. Our secondary contribution is the extension of policy-based preprocessing to path-based preprocessing for the SOTA problem. In the process, we also introduce Arc-Potentials, a more efficient generalization of Stochastic Arc-Flags that can be used for both policy- and path-based SOTA. After developing the pathfinding and preprocessing algorithms, we evaluate their performance on two different real-world networks. To the best of our knowledge, these techniques provide the most efficient computation strategy for the path-based SOTA problem for general probability distributions, both with and without preprocessing.Comment: Submission accepted by the International Symposium on Experimental Algorithms 2016 and published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series on June 1, 2016. Effect of superficial treatment with new natural antioxidant on salmon (Salmo salar) lipid oxidation

    Get PDF
Lipid oxidation is one of the main factors responsible for the quality loss in refrigerated and frozen stored fish products. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of superficial treatment of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) with dihydroquercetin (DHQ) solutions on the hydrolytic and oxidative changes in fish lipids during refrigerated storage. It was found that treatment with DHQ solution (1.0 g l−1) reduced approximately twice the free fatty acids content of chilled stored salmon. After 11 days of storage at 1 °С, the contents of hydroperoxides (HPO) and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) of these samples decreased with 45.00 and 0.91 mg MDA/kg, respectively. The share of saturated fatty acids (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in control and experimental samples did not differ significantly (P>0.05). Results obtained show that the superficial treatment of salmon with DHQ solution (1.0 g l−1) delayed the hydrolytic and oxidative changes in fish lipids significantly, thus preserving the salmon freshness up to 11 days of storage at 1 °С
