    Impact of culture and knowledge acquisition to organizational success: Study on Chinese and Malay small firms

    Research generally concludes that small businesses contribute to economic development.In Malaysia, small firm’s particularly Chinese small firms have played a very important role for economic growth in this country.Chinese firms have managed to survive, grow and succeed either in Malaysia or anywhere else in the world.Most prior research found that the success factor was related to their socio-cultural context.However, previous studies have found the similarities on the cultural values of the Malays and Chinese which derived from ‘Budi Complex’ and ‘Confucianism’ respectively.It was particularly on certain selected values related to self, time and epistemology.Therefore, this paper tries to identify other reasons behind the success factor of the Chinese as compared to the Malay small firms.Thus, looking at the perspective of Knowledge Base View theory, this paper proposed that cultural values are not a mere factor that affect the way Chinese small firms market their operation.The current study thus proposed that how Chinese and Malays acquire and share knowledge, have significant contribution to their success or their failures

    The purpose of the study is to determine factors that influence the development of future Malays in relation to their economic status, personal identity and leadership position. The study was conducted amongst 505 Malaysian Malays to understand their views about the important elements of emerging Malay. Malay self-attributes, education system and contribution of other parties play different but unique roles in the formation of the emerging Malays. This paper is written with two main objectives: 1) to determine the factors that contribute to emerging Malays with strong identity, economic power and leadership attributes 2) to examine whether the factors of personal attributes, education system, and the role of the community, economic and government support (subsidy) have a significant effect towards the future development of Malays. The authors found that Malaysian Malays are optimistic about the emerging Malaysian culture and are adapting well to the cultural elements of other ethnic groups despite some differences in opinions about what constituted the Malaysian culture

    Silent Scream of Malaysian Elderly: A Case Study in Noble Care Ageing Centres

    Ageing is a normal biotic process, which ultimately reaches to every human being. The transitioning of young adult to older people may result as reduction of social, physiological and psychological capacities that bring social and health threats for the older population. The rich tradition of dignified ageing is exceedingly wearied away in developing countries, including Malaysia. The primary purpose of this research is to provide a snapshot of what it means to be living with chronic disease in Malaysia. This study was conducted in Klang Valley, Malaysia, due to the paucity of research in this area. The present study demonstrates the true stories of elderly associated with their physical, psychological and social experiences regarding immediate surroundings, friends, family and the society residing in Noble Care Malaysia, which is an established welfare and human services organisation, helping the deserving members of society. The qualitative research methodology is adopted, and an in-depth life history technique has been used for a deeper picture of the elderly’s memories and experience. The data is collected through five in-depth life history’s narrative of the elderly with chronic diseases. The study explains the true stories of the elderly in connection to familial neglection and abandonment for social awareness about ageing and older citizen feelings. Thus, it is imperative to keep the senior citizen self-esteem positive, along with the mental and physical activity. However, most importantly, the respect and mutual understanding between older citizen and the younger generation are getting worsen which need to be sustained harmoniously. This study proposed to integrate insights from the KBV theory, internationalization process model and Forsgren’s critical review of the concept of learning in the Uppsala internationalization process model to develop a new framework for knowledge management in exporting firms.The objective of the study thus is to propose the role of experiential knowledge, knowledge from imitative learning, in corporat ion with other unit, staffing, networking and informational knowledge in the internationalization process

    Intellectual capital efficiency level of Malaysian financial sector: Panel data analysis (2002-2006)

    Intellectual capital which is encompasses of human capital, structural capital and capital employed has been regarded as a prominent source of competitive advantage of various organizations, which influence the level of innovativeness and creativity that lead to the increase of business performance and a country’s economic growth. Malaysia, as a progressive developing Asian country, must now focus on knowledge driven economy in order to be competitive and capable to face various challenges that exist in the global market. Malaysian financial sectors in particular, need to anticipate and rapidly respond to these demands and expectations in order to maintain their competitive edge in the industry.Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the efficiency level and the trend of intellectual capital among Malaysian financial sectors and its impact on their company’s value added.Using a model introduced by Pulic (1998) to measure value added intellectual Capital(VAICtm) and panel data analysis to measure the trend of intellectual capital; it was found that out of 18 companies evaluated from year 2002-2006, banking sectors owning more on intellectual capital followed by insurance company and brokerage firm. Company’s value added was very much related to the amount of capital employed as compared to other variables. The trend of intellectual capital shows positive relationship for almost all sectors. However the relationships was found insignificant

    HALAL-HUB is a concerted effort among the Islamic organizations/bodies such as Halal manufacturers, Halal traders, buyers, and consumers from all over the world.To be the central trading hub for Halal products, Malaysia must intelligently market itself and achieved Halal-hub main objective of providing a credible platform in connecting global Halal supply-chain and certification for Halal Assurance.Existing literature provides a number of examples that illustrate how supply chain strategy and marketing intelligence improve firm’s performance.The literature, however, lacks theoretical support to facilitate an understanding of the magnitude of supply change strategies, structure of halal assurance system and marketing intelligence to support the scope of relational of Halal-hub.This article uses the strategy structure-performance paradigm to position Halal Hub relative to the nature of relationships within the broader supply chain strategies, Halal Assurance systems and marketing intelligence a firm employs.The framework presented is a first step towards a more holistic and theory-based approach to understanding the link between, supply chain, halal assurance system, marketing intelligence and Halal-hub.This framework also is designed to serve as a basis for future research in this area
