Social agency and symbolic structure. The case of social work practice in Poland

Changes in Poland, being a result of transformation of economic system open the necessity of formation new social policy and new social assistance system, including professional social work. Professional character of social workers job is being constructed not only by law or institutional regulations, but through everyday activities undertaken by social workers. One of the consequences of these practices is the strategy of informal evaluation and classification of welfare clients. To understand the social workers daily professional practice is important to identify strategies, arguments and language codes lying behind them. We try to interpret this kind of social workers’ activity refer to different theoretical perspectives

Przemiany cywilizacyjne rodziny w nauczaniu wielkopostnym biskupów polskich

Małżeństwo i rodzina to ważna kwestia w nauczaniu biskupów w listach wielkopostnych. Kanwa czasowa (1979-2005) osadza je głęboko na nauczaniu Jana Pawła II, szczególnie na bardzo ważnej programowo adhortacji apostolskiej Familiaris consortio. Nauczanie podkreśla potrzebę istnienia małżeństwa i rodziny w dzisiejszym świecie. Małżeństwo to przymierze kobiety i mężczyzny uświęcone sakramentem. Za widzialnym znakiem sakramentu kryje się niewidzialna  łaska, której udziela sam Bóg. W tej łasce sakramentu małżeństwa uczestniczy także rodzina, która jest obdarowana więzią sakramentalną. A takie praktyki jak modlitwa, wspólne rozmowy, czystość serca, Eucharystia, przyczyniają się do doświadczenia tej łaski bardzo konkretnie w codziennym życiu. Biskupi nie tylko formułują pozytywne przesłanie o małżeństwie i rodzinie, ale i ukazują zagrożenia niesione przez różne trendy kultury współczesnej. To wpływ świata współczesnego zawęża prawdziwe rozumienie małżeństwa i rodziny do związków wyłącznie świeckich, takich jak: konkubinaty, mieszkanie przed ślubem mężczyzny i kobiety razem, czy nawet tworzeniu nowych kategorii małżeństw, przeciwstawnych nauczaniu biblijnemu, jak związków jednopłciowych (kobiety z kobietą czy mężczyzny z mężczyzną). Analiza listów wielkopostnych i wyłuskanie z nich treści dotyczących małżeństwa i rodziny pokazuje, że przesłanie to jest ciągle aktualne i mimo upływających lat, nic nie straciło na wartości

The paper offers a contextual close reading of Andrzej Busza’s poem Mała Apokalipsa (Small Apocalypse), which appeared in the volume Znaki wodne… published in 1969. The poem was written after the tragic collapse of the slag heap in Aberfan in South Wales on September 21, 1966. What brought death and destruction to the small Welsh village was, ironi-cally, one of its most familiar features: a towering colliery spoil tip, matter tamed and domesticated, the work of human hands; the daily companion of the villagers, witness to their humdrum life of drudgery and toil. Eda Ostrowska — choć zdolna i doceniona przez krytykę — nie należy do autorek powszechnie znanych, a jej tomiki poetyckie nie pretendują i raczej nigdy nie będą pretendować do miana tzw. arcydzieł. Nie są to książki dodawane do ogólnodostępnej prasy czy określane mianem literatury popularnej. W przypadku autorki Baranka zabitego, kiedyś chorej psychicznie narkomanki z dość burzliwą historią, dzisiaj osoby wyleczonej ze swoich „dolegliwości”, trudno mówić o grafomańskiej twórczości, zwłaszcza z perspektywy całokształtu jej dorobku. Nie można jednakże postawić tezy, że Eda Ostrowska nigdy nie tworzyła takiej literatury, szczególnie, gdy ma się w pamięci wiersze z początkowego okresu jej działalności pisarskiej oraz fragmenty pamiętnika, pisanego przez poetkę w szpitalu psychiatrycznym

Marcin Świetlicki : poeta (nie)religijny

The subject of this article is the issue of religiousness in the poetry of Marcin Świetlicki. The works by the author of Niskie pobudki (Low Motives) are entangled in a space of tran¬scendence by (among others) utilizing biblical themes — Cain and Abel, the creation of the world, Christmas, Jesus Christ, salvation — which accompany the author of Pieśń profana (The Profaner’s Song) ever since his first book, published in 1992. These result in the impression of religiousness of the poet’s works. However’ most common dogmas of Christian faith (since this is the only faith the poet refers to), as well as notions of the almighty, all-powerful, mer¬ciful God-the-Father or God the Creator are contradicted in this poetry. The author endues everyday, common things with holiness and divinity, while reducing the existence of God only to humans (thereby, to himself as well) and space available to them

Gdzie jest las? : o wyobraźni poetyckiej w "Związku zgody" Feliksa Netza

Feliks Netz betrays a particular sensitivity towards the nature. He describes the complicated relationship between nature and man, who on the one hand supports it – creating its “constructs” (forests, sanctuaries, or parks) through living in and growing alongside nature – but on the other hand contributes to its degradation. The latter seems to be more frequent than the former: nature is being destroyed by the passage of time and the superiority of one law of nature over the other from the one side, and by the civilization from the other side. The article focuses on the metaphor of the forest in the poems included in the volume of Feliks Netz’s poetry entitled Concord. The green space described by the poet – as Barbara Zwolińska says – “at the brink of destruction and under the threat of fire or felling, feels reminiscent of a house falling apart.” The poet sees both of those spaces in a very similar manner

W swoim artykule Ideologie i aparaty ideologiczne państwa Louis Althusser podejmuje fundamentalną kwestię reprodukcji systemu społecznego. Idąc śladem myśli Karola Marksa, ujmuje ją w kategoriach reprodukcji określonych warunków produkcji w ramach konkretnej formacji społecznej. Pisze Althusser (2009: 3): Jeśli przyjmiemy, że cała formacja społeczna zależy od panującego sposobu produkcji, to możemy stwierdzić, że proces produkcji uruchamia siły wytwórcze istniejące w i pod określonymi stosunkami produkcji. Wynika z tego, że każda formacja społeczna, aby istnieć, musi – w tym samym czasie, kiedy produkuje i żeby móc produkować – reprodukować swoje warunki produkcji. Hałda : o śląskiej wyobraźni poetyckiej i symbolicznej

Instead of being an all-encompassing monograph, this book consists of essays and articles engaging a number of authors. It predominantly focuses on the poems which treat the image of a spoil heap, the most iconic representation of the black Silesia, as a literary symbol. The spoil heap turns out to be not only an irremovable element of the landscape, but also a trope raising both existential and ethical issues. The spoil heap, understood as the symbol of landscape, is a recurrent motif in the literary works of Silesian poets. This book focuses on the most representative poets, if not the most important ones for the Upper Silesian literature; however, it is not the intention of this book to engage in literary and historical debates that establish such a hierarchy among authors, but rather to elaborate on the topic which has been so far unnoticed in literary studies. In other words, this work aims to look at Silesia and its inhabitants locked in the industrial landscape by means of the spoil heap - its most iconic symbol - and to pose significant questions concerning existence and its value. Groza w opowiadaniu "Talidomid" Dawida Kaina

Gorefikacje is the first Polish e-anthology of gore, which premiered on March 30th, 2013. Extreme horror is new to Polish literature: it is only at the beginning of its path. Making its first shy steps towards the center of the literary scene, it owes its evolution to young authors, who first seek inspiration in works by non-Polish authors, and then – in cinematography. Gore oscillates first and foremost around macabre images of blood, dismemberment, vivisection, abuse, killing, torture, pornography, crime, and perverse provocations. The article focuses on the opening text of the Gorefikacje e-anthology – a story written by one of the most renowned contemporary Polish horror writers, Dawid Kain. Mateusz, the protagonist of Talidomid, is a cripple. Immersed in the “Die of Death” – a mysterious online game – he realizes that it is life that plays a game with him.
