Epoxy/ graphene nanocomposites – processing and properties: a review
Graphene has recently attracted significant academic and industrial interest because of its excellent performance in mechanical, electrical and thermal applications. Graphene can significantly improve physical properties of epoxy at extremely small loading when incorporated appropriately. Herein, the structure, preparation and properties of epoxy/graphene nanocomposites are reviewed in general, along with detailed examples drawn from the key scientific literature. The modification of graphene and the utilization of these materials in the fabrication of nanocomposites with different processing methods have been explored. This review has been focused on the processing methods and mechanical, electrical, thermal, and fire retardant properties of the nanocomposites. The Trilinear Hamiltonian: A Zero Dimensional Model of Hawking Radiation from a Quantized Source
We investigate a quantum parametric amplifier with dynamical pump mode,
viewed as a zero-dimensional model of Hawking radiation from an evaporating
black hole. The conditions are derived under which the spectrum of particles
generated from vacuum fluctuations deviates from the thermal spectrum predicted
for the conventional parametric amplifier. We find that significant deviations
arise when the pump mode (black hole) has emitted nearly half of its initial
energy into the signal (Hawking radiation) and idler (in-falling particle)
modes. As a model of black hole dynamics, this finding lends support to the
view that late-time Hawking radiation contains information about the quantum
state of the black hole and is entangled with the black hole's quantum

Mammals of Cedar Breaks National Monument
This document is the result of a study of the terrestrial mammals found at Cedar Breaks National Monument from 2017-2019. During this time, we conducted a survey of mammals using a series of trail cameras. We used survey results to provide an index of terrestrial mammals (excluding bats) within the park. Our goal is to provide a beginner’s guide to the mammals at Cedar Breaks National Monument. We include information regarding appearance, diet, habitat, and population status according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The guide represents the species a visitor to Cedar Breaks National Monument will most likely encounter during a visit. In addition to the traditional photographs, we provide many photos collected during our study. In some cases, these photos may be of lesser quality, but they provide a realistic example of what these species look like at the park, and while they are on-the-move
The male of the species: a profile of men in nursing
Aim: To establish a profile of men in nursing in Western Australia and explore the perception of men in nursing from the perspective of male and female nurses.
Background: A project team, including some of the current authors, produced a YouTube video and DVD about men in nursing which led to further inquiry on this topic.
Design: The study employed a non-experimental, comparative, descriptive research design focused on a quantitative methodology, using an online survey in early 2014.
Method: A convenience sample incorporated registered and enrolled nurses and midwives in Western Australia.
Findings: The range of data included demographic information and the respondents’ perceptions of men in nursing were collected. Findings indicated that the main reasons for choosing a career in nursing or midwifery were similar for both genders. Common mis-perceptions of men in nursing included: most male nurses are gay; men are not suited to nursing and men are less caring and compassionate than women. Suggestions to promote nursing to men included: nurses are highly skilled professionals; there is the potential to make a difference for patients; nursing offers stable employment, professional diversity and opportunities for team work. There is a diminished awareness of opportunities for men in nursing and negative stereotypes related to men in nursing persist.
Conclusion: The study produced recommendations which included: using the right message to target the recruitment for men and promoting a more realistic understanding of the profile and perception of men in nursing
Unfrustrated Qudit Chains and their Ground States
We investigate chains of 'd' dimensional quantum spins (qudits) on a line
with generic nearest neighbor interactions without translational invariance. We
find the conditions under which these systems are not frustrated, i.e. when the
ground states are also the common ground states of all the local terms in the
Hamiltonians. The states of a quantum spin chain are naturally represented in
the Matrix Product States (MPS) framework. Using imaginary time evolution in
the MPS ansatz, we numerically investigate the range of parameters in which we
expect the ground states to be highly entangled and find them hard to

Three flavour Quark matter in chiral colour dielectric model
We investigate the properties of quark matter at finite density and
temperature using the nonlinear chiral extension of Colour Dielectric Model
(CCM). Assuming that the square of the meson fields devlop non- zero vacuum
expectation value, the thermodynamic potential for interacting three flavour
matter has been calculated. It is found that remain zero
in the medium whereas changes in the medium. As a result, and
quark masses decrease monotonically as the temperature and density of the quark
matter is increased.In the present model, the deconfinement density and
temperature is found to be lower compared to lattice results. We also study the

Single-qubit gates and measurements in the surface acoustic wave quantum computer
In the surface acoustic wave quantum computer, the spin state of an electron
trapped in a moving quantum dot comprises the physical qubit of the scheme. Via
detailed analytic and numerical modeling of the qubit dynamics, we discuss the
effect of excitations into higher-energy orbital states of the quantum dot that
occur when the qubits pass through magnetic fields. We describe how
single-qubit quantum operations, such as single-qubit rotations and
single-qubit measurements, can be performed using only localized static
magnetic fields. The models provide useful parameter regimes to be explored
experimentally when the requirements on semiconductor gate fabrication and the

Exact limiting relation between the structure factors in neutron and x-ray scattering
The ratio of the static matter structure factor measured in experiments on
coherent X-ray scattering to the static structure factor measured in
experiments on neutron scattering is considered. It is shown theoretically that
this ratio in the long-wavelength limit is equal to the nucleus charge at
arbitrary thermodynamic parameters of a pure substance (the system of nuclei
and electrons, where interaction between particles is pure Coulomb) in a
disordered equilibrium state. This result is the exact relation of the quantum
statistical mechanics. The experimental verification of this relation can be
done in the long wavelength X-ray and neutron experiments.Comment: 7 pages, no figure

Bridge-specific fragility analysis: when is it really necessary?
In seismic assessment of bridges the research focus has recently shifted on the derivation of bridge-specific fragility curves that account for the effect of different geometry, structural system, component and soil properties, on the seismic behaviour. In this context, a new, component-based methodology for the derivation of bridge-specific fragility curves has been recently proposed by the authors, with a view to overcoming the inherent difficulties in assessing all bridges of a road network and the drawbacks of existing methodologies, which use the same group of fragility curves for bridges within the same typological class. The main objective of this paper is to critically assess the necessity of bridge-specific fragility analysis, starting from the effect of structure-specific parameters on component capacity (limit state thresholds), seismic demand, and fragility curves. The aforementioned methodology is used to derive fragility curves for all bridges within an actual road network, with a view to investigating the consistency of adopting generic fragility curves for bridges that fall within the same class and quantifying the degree of over- or under-estimation of the probability of damage when generic bridge classes are considered. Moreover, fragility curves for all representative bridges of the analysed concrete bridge classes are presented to illustrate the differentiation in bridge fragility for varying structural systems, bridge geometry, total bridge length and maximum pier height. Hippocampal Functional Connectivity and Memory Performance After Exercise Intervention in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment

Exercise training (ET) has neuroprotective effects in the hippocampus, a key brain region for memory that is vulnerable to age-related dysfunction. Objective:
We investigated the effects of ET on functional connectivity (FC) of the hippocampus in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and a cognitively normal (CN) control group. We also assessed whether the ET-induced changes in hippocampal FC (Δhippocampal-FC) are associated with changes in memory task performance (Δmemory performance). Methods:
32 older adults (77.0±7.6 years; 16 MCI and 16 CN) participated in the present study. Cardiorespiratory fitness tests, memory tasks (Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) and Logical Memory Test (LM)), and resting-state fMRI were administered before and after a 12-week walking ET intervention. We utilized a seed-based correlation analysis using the bilateral anterior and posterior hippocampi as priori seed regions of interest. The associations of residualized ET-induced Δhippocampal-FC and Δmemory performance were assessed using linear regression. Results:
There were significant improvements in RAVLT Trial 1 and LM test performance after ET across participants. At baseline, MCI, compared to CN, demonstrated significantly lower posterior hippocampal FC. ET was associated with increased hippocampal FC across groups. Greater ET-related anterior and posterior hippocampal FC with right posterior cingulate were associated with improved LM recognition performance in MCI participants. Conclusion:
Our findings indicate that hippocampal FC is significantly increased following 12-weeks of ET in older adults and, moreover, suggest that increased hippocampal FC may reflect neural network plasticity associated with ET-related improvements in memory performance in individuals diagnosed with MCI
