AbstractRomanian higher education institutions have taken the internationalization process as an objective of strategic development, in order to improve the quality of study programs, both in education and research activities. A key factor in increasing the interest in internationalized curriculum is the actual situation on the labor market, in the context of Romania's accession to the European Union. Internationalization strategies must be defined at the level of MA study programs, taking into account several important elements: mobility, societal goals, the Romanian legal framework, the institutional organization, the specificity of the field of study, the profile of the MA student participating in internationalized programs. Beyond all these, each university must build a viable marketing strategy, which includes a series of indicators similar to those used by prestigious international universities. A good strategy for the promotion of internationalized curriculum creates a number of opportunities: the international recognition of diplomas; the achievement of internationally recognized standards; the facilitation of the international movement of labor force (and, implicitly, the recognition of diplomas); the compatibility and harmonization of curriculum and methodologies with those of partner universities; the attraction of foreign students; improving the image of the institution; professional and financial benefits; promoting attractive specializations at international/European/regional levels; reinforcing and developing partnerships with Romanian and foreign companies, in order to support the curriculum by means of the proposed research topics, with funding based on the results obtained; strengthening and extending the existing partnerships; increasing the selection base for the PhD level; promoting the European dimension of the Romanian higher education by developing the curriculum; promoting the mobility of students and teachers, by recognizing the traineeships offered by other higher education institutions and by respecting the statutory rights of these people; jobs at international companies, at home and abroad, and lastly, the achievement of academic prestige

In this paper are presented the possibilities of using matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry in textile industry. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry it is a convenient, versatile method for characterization and identification of dyes and pigments, and also for characterization of fibers and contaminants of the fabrics.(undefined

The switch from patented medicine to the generic one: an option or a necessity?

    Get PDF
This paper assesses the influence of a number of factors taken into account when a brand name drug is replaced by a generic one. It also evaluates responses of health professionals ā€“ physicians and pharmacistā€”and patients regarding the issue of switching. We compared and contrasted their responses in order to identify new points of cooperation for the intended benefit of the patient. Thus, the sample drew from all three groups, consisting of 50 doctors, 50 pharmacists, and 50 patients. We collected information regarding the age, residence, income level, and education level for the patients, and age and experience for the specialists. Based on responses to the survey, replacing the original medication with a generic one raises many issues, such as lack of information for the patient and specialist, lack of collaboration between physician and pharmacist, ineffective communication between specialist and patient, and the influence of the overall profit motive

    Renal Anomalies

    Get PDF
This chapter is dedicated to the main renal anomalies detectable by ultrasound. Anomalies of the lower urinary tract will be addressed in a separate chapter. The anomalies presented are renal agenesis, renal development variants, autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease, multicystic dysplastic kidney disease, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, obstructive cystic dysplasia, pelvis dilatation, renal tumors, and nonchromosomal syndromes associated with renal anomalies. All chapters are structured similar into definition, incidence, pathology, ultrasound findings, differential diagnosis, and clinical facts

Insights into mesh placement in contaminated surgical fields for abdominal wall repair ā€“ from prohibition to possibility

    Get PDF
Surgical field contamination is a critical concern during abdominal wall prosthetic repair, as it significantly affects the risk of postoperative infections. This review paper combines an extensive analysis of relevant literature with personal experience to explore the challenges and advancements in the placement of mesh in contaminated surgical fields for the management of abdominal wall defects. Historically, the presence of any surgical field contamination was considered a contraindication for prosthetic placement due to the high risk of infection. However, with evolving understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of biologic reaction around the mesh, as well as the development of various mesh types, the landscape has changed. The emerging understanding of hostmesh interaction, biofilm formation, and local tissue response has contributed to the development of innovative mesh designs that improve outcomes in challenging surgical scenarios. With meticulous surgical technique, adherence to infection prevention protocols, and the appropriate choice of mesh, successful abdominal wall prosthetic repair in contaminated fields is now feasible, opening new possibilities for patients with ventral and incisional hernias

Spatio-Temporal Evolution of Sediments Pollution with Mobile Heavy Metals in an Abandoned Mining Area from Romania

    Get PDF
The present chapter focuses on spatio-temporal evolution of sediments pollution with mobile heavy metals in five sampling campaigns, in an abandoned gold-bearing mining area from Certeju de Jos, Hunedoara County. The investigated zone is situated in a region where for a long period intense activities of mining exploitation was conducted. For determination of total metals content, sediment samples were dissolved with ultrapure nitric acid to microwave digestion. For the determination of mobile metals concentrations, it used the first step of BCR 701 sequential extraction scheme in a modified form, by reducing the extraction time from 16Ā hours to 20Ā minutes by sonication. The total and mobile concentrations of metals were determined by using ICP-MS. The concentrations of the mobile fractions of Cd, As and Cu are between 60 and 98% for Cd, 10 and 38% for As and up to 44% for Cu, indicating their presence in a bioavailable form. Due to the high mobility, these metals can pass from sediment to surface water and, implicitly, to the aquatic ecosystems. The pollution indices, calculated for the total content of As, Cd, Cu, Ni and Pb, indicate the presence of a strong environmental risk of sediment degradation in most investigated site
