In the adaptive reuse of the Paisley Mill, the intent of the design was to reflect the original use and construction of the mill. Additions and modifications were minimized and struct1Jral elements were exposed. The exterior elements in the renovation replaces a portion of he original painted wood siding with glazing which provides a connection for the interior spaces to the environment. allowing t-he green wall to reflect the surrounding woodlands. The new construction mainly involves the addition of this curtain wall assembly in select bays. The glazing continues from the roof to the ground floor allowing light and views between the interior and exterior. As the original cladding is retained on the exterior, the exposed structural members increase the presence of the building\u27s original construction on the interior, reflecting t-he long history of the building. This section shows the details of these floors and connections

Easy eye examinations: An English to Vietnamese translation

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is not only to provide a resource for optometrists and others in communicating with Vietnamese-speaking patients; it is also to provide a basic background about the Vietnamese culture, and especially to educate people of how to treat these patients in a way that is not considered rude and inconsiderate. This booklet has been separated into sections depending on the type of procedure to be performed. The English phrases are on the left. The Vietnamese translation is on the right. The sections are roughly organized similar to a typical examination. Accompanying this manual is a compact disc. It includes all of the words and phrases covered in this manual, but spoken out loud so the user can get a better feel for how the language sounds

Quantum dot dephasing by fractional quantum Hall edge states

We consider the dephasing rate of an electron level in a quantum dot, placed next to a fluctuating edge current in the fractional quantum Hall effect. Using perturbation theory, we show that this rate has an anomalous dependence on the bias voltage applied to the neighboring quantum point contact, which originates from the Luttinger liquid physics which describes the Hall fluid. General expressions are obtained using a screened Coulomb interaction. The dephasing rate is strictly proportional to the zero frequency backscattering current noise, which allows to describe exactly the weak to strong backscattering crossover using the Bethe-Ansatz solution

TREATMENT EFFICIENCY OF PIGGERY WASTEWATER BY SURFACE AND HORIZONTAL SUBSURFACE FLOW CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS

Constructed wetlands have been used to treat various types of wastewaters such as urban runoff, acid mine drainage, municipal, industrial, and livestock wastewaters. This study is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of two constructed wetlands (surface and horizontal subsurface flows) for piggery wastewater treatment after biogas process. The wetland plant Phragmites australis Cav. was used in 45 days for the experiments. The CWs were designed to treat up to 100 liters/day with the hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 3 days. Parameters including pH, COD, TSS, NH4+-N, total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were measured. The pH of the CWs system was in the range of 6.7 to 7.3. The results showed that the horizontal subsurface flow CW had better treatment performance compared to the surface flow system. The removal efficiency of TP, TSS, COD, TN and NH4+-N by surface flow CW was 80, 60, 66, 60 and 65%, respectively while those by horizontal subsurface flow system was 86, 78, 74.6, 67.1 and 74.2%, respectively. The water quality of the effluents of both two CWs met the Vietnamese standards for livestock wastewater (QCVN62/2016-BTNMT, column B)

EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS TO MEET STUDENTS' SATISFACTION FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES AT HO CHI MINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

Through the research, the topic has built four solutions to meet students' satisfaction with physical education (PE) activities at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE). These include: strengthening movement activities, and extra-curricular activities; supplementing and updating documents and textbooks; improving teaching staff's qualifications, along with improving teaching, testing and evaluation methods; upgrading physical facilities for sports. After a period of application in practice, the solutions proposed by the topic have proven to be effective and meet the satisfaction of learners.  Article visualizations

INTEGRATING EXTENSIVE READING INTO THE LESSONS: ITS EFFECTS ON EFL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ READING PERFORMANCE

    Get PDF
This one-group experimental study attempts to investigate the effects of integrating extensive reading, especially the integration of the two main reading skills namely skimming and scanning skills into the reading lessons on EFL high school students’ reading performance. The participants were 62 grade-10 students studying in a high school in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The four main instruments used to collect the data included Reading Tests (consisting of Pre-test and Post-test), a questionnaire, a semi-structured interview, and a pre-program survey, respectively. The results of the data analysis indicated a relatively significant impact of extensive reading on students’ reading performance, especially the improvement of two reading skills, namely skimming and scanning. In addition, it confirmed that the participants had a positive attitude towards the integration of extensive reading into the reading lessons. The present study showed the main implication that the incorporation of extensive reading into the reading lessons should get more attention in language teaching programs at secondary education.
