Generalized Discernibility Function Based Attribute Reduction in Incomplete Decision Systems

    Get PDF
A rough set approach for attribute reduction is an important research subject in data mining and machine learning. However, most attribute reduction methods are performed on a complete decision system table. In this paper, we propose methods for attribute reduction in static incomplete decision systems and dynamic incomplete decision systems with dynamically-increasing and decreasing conditional attributes. Our methods use generalized discernibility matrix and function in tolerance-based rough sets

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING IN THE CONTEXT OF ONLINE LEARNING: A LITERATURE REVIEW

    Get PDF
With the occurrence of the COVID-19 crisis, there has been dramatically growth and adoption of online education. As a consequence of the epidemic, institutes have been compulsory to close, and teaching and learning have changed fully to home studying. As a result, numerous educational institutions have adopted online teaching and learning on a massive scale. To combine the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach with a framework of computer-assisted language learning seems to be the best strategy during a coronavirus outbreak. This study offers a survey of the literature on Communicative Language Teaching in the situation of online teaching and studying. This paper begins with an overview, definition, and characteristics of CLT. It then examines how CLT can be beneficial in a virtual classroom: advantages and disadvantages. Besides, it discusses the approaches to using CLT in online teaching and learning. This paper's goal is to provide an effective overview that can be used for online language instruction. The study will add to our understanding of Communicative Language Teaching and its use in an online setting.  Article visualizations

Crack growth modelling: enriched continuum vs. discrete models

    Get PDF
Failure in quasi-brittle materials usually appears in the form of narrow bands called fracture process zones, where all inelastic deformation takes place, while the surrounding bulk material outside those areas typically unloads elastically. This localised nature of failure is the main source of size effects in these materials, since the width of the fracture process zone is a material property that does not scale with the size of the material volume. An adequate description of localised failure and associated size effects requires both size and behaviour of the fracture process zone and neighbouring material to be properly taken into account. In this study, we present two alternative approaches for modelling localised failure and simulating fracture propagation using finite element methods. In the first approach, an embedded crack appears at a constitutive level by enriching the kinematics of constitutive models, while in the second one this is done at the finite element level using cohesive interface elements. The advantages and shortcomings of both are presented through one numerical example on the failure of fibre-reinforced composite materials

Reproductive biology of the mudskipper Boleophthalmus boddarti in Soc Trang

    Get PDF
The mudskipper Boleophthalmus boddarti is an amphibious fish widely distributed in the mudflat regions in Asia, but its reproductive biology was poorly stydied. This study was conducted in the Tran De, Soc Trang, Vietnam, from March 2013 to February 2014, to investigate reproductive parameters of B. boddarti. Data analysis based on a total of 360 collected fish (188 females and 172 males) suggest that the sex ratio of this mudskipper was not significantly different between dry and wet seasons. This fish was a multiple reproducer and spawned in the wet season with a peak spawning in three main months of this season (August to October) as difference stages of oocytes were observed in the ovaries. The male B. boddarti released sperms during the reproductive season since different type of spermatogonia were found in stage V testis sections. This fish reached 11.52 cm total length at first sex maturation and was high fecundity (9,800-33,800 eggs), indicating a possible adaptation of this species to the monsoonal climate. The understanding of the reproductive biology of B. boddarti provides useful knowledge of its reproductive adaptation to the mudflat toward sustainable management in the study region

Nitrite metabolism of several bacterial strains isolated from abattoir and swine wastewater after biogas treatment

    Get PDF
In nitrogen treatment with biological methods, nitrite metabolism is an intermediate process that facilitates other processes involving different bacteria strains. In this study, we isolated two nitrite-oxidising bacteria strains from abattoir wastewater and wastewater from biogas tanks of an industrial pig farm in Ha Tinh province. The bacteria strains grow, develop, and metabolise nitrite at pH 6–8 and 30–37 °C. The samples with the nitrite concentration up to 750 mg·L–1 were oxidised within four days of incubation, and the nitrite metabolism rate was proportional to the concentration of nitrite tested. Under severe conditions (salinity up to 3% NaCl, a low dissolved oxygen level of 0.1 mg·L–1), the two isolated bacterial strains exhibited their effective growth and nitrite metabolism capacity. The results enrich the database of nitrite-oxidising bacteria and are prospective in wastewater treatment

Payment Methods in Acquisitions of Association of Southeast Asian Nations Bidders

    Get PDF
This paper examines the determinants of methods of payment in M&A transactions in ASEAN countries. We take into account the effects of characteristics of bidders, targets and countries on the choice of method of payment. The findings document the importance of bidders' technology status, targets' ownership status, relative size of bidders and targets, and especially the corporate governance variables in the countries that involved in those M&A transactions. In addition, crisis periods also distinguish the choices of payment method for domestic and cross-border M&As in ASEAN countries.
