    Chemical profiles and biological activities of acetone extracts of nine Annonaceae plants

    This study investigated the chemical components and bioactivities of acetone leaf extracts of nine Annonaceae plants collected in the Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Vietnam. A total of 182 constituents were identified, with linolenic acid, diaeudesmin, germacrene D, 1-octadecenoic acid, 8-(3-octyl-2-oxiranyl)-1-octanol, oleic acid, and phenylmethyl ester being the major compounds. The antimicrobial activity of the extracts was evaluated using a disc diffusion assay. Eight of the nine extracts, except for the Mitrephora thorelii extract, showed an inhibition effect against Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using DPPH assay, and the cytotoxic activity was deter mined using SRB assay. The results showed that the acetone extracts of Artabotrys hexapetalus, Uvularia grandiflora, Polyalthia luensis, Xylopia pierrei, Sphaerocoryne affinis, Desmos cochinchinensis, Uvaria littoralis, Mitrephora thorelii, and Goniothalamus touranensis had significant activity with IC50 for the DPPH radical scavenging activity ranging from 18.56 to 702.33 μg/mL, and the IC50 for the cytotoxic effects ranged from 5.39 to 251.77 μg/mL. Overall, the results obtained provide experimental evidence for the potential use of these plants in medicine and other related fields

    Promoting skills-based education in the 21st century: A dataset of Vietnamese secondary students

    As the world has become more digitally interconnected than ever before in the 21stcentury, the next generation is required to possess various sets of new skills to succeed in their works and lives. The purpose of the article is to present a dataset of socio-demographic, in-school, out-of-school factors as well as the eight domains of 21st-century skills of Vietnamese secondary school students. A total of 1183 observations from 30 secondary schools in both rural and urban areas of Vietnam are introduced in this dataset. The linear regression analysis was also utilized as an analysis example for this dataset. The insights generated from the dataset are hoped to contribute to skills-based education and policy planning in Vietnam

    Quantum dot phosphors CaS:Ce3+ and CaS:Pb2+, Mn2+ for improvements of white light-emitting diodes optic characteristics

    The goal of this study is to discover a new method that uses standard phosphors and quantum dots to improve the lighting qualities and heat manipulation of white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). Despite the popularity as a good ingredient that offers good color rendering properties, quantum dots (QDs) have not been widely employed in the fabrication of WLEDs, particularly, the utilization of QDs-phosphor-mixed nanocomposite is limited. We propose a unique packaging design based on the research’s experimental findings. The layer of nanocomposites consisting of QDs and phosphors is horizontally positioned to the WLED for optimal lighting and heating efficiency. This study simulated and used four distinguishing white LEDs forms: mono-layer phosphorus, two double-layer remote phosphors featuring yellowish-red and yellowish-green organizations, and a triple-layer phosphor.     TRITERPENOID AND STEROL COMPOUNDS ISOLATED FROM ANODENDRON PANICULATUM (ROXB.) A. DC.

    This phytochemical study on the aerial parts of Anodendron paniculatum led to the isolation of three triterpenes, namely ursolic acid (1), esculentic acid (2), cycloartenol (3), and one sterol: desmosterol (4). Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. The cytotoxicity of the isolated compounds against the growth of human cancer cell lines was evaluated using the sulforhodamine B bioassay. Compounds 1 exhibited a moderate cytotoxicity against the LU–1 and MKN–7 cell lines with IC50 values of 44.37 ± 5.40 and 30.89 ± 3.60 μg/mL, respectively. Meanwhile, compound 4 possessed moderate cytotoxic effects toward the LU–1, KB, Hep–G2, MKN–7 and SW–480 cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 28.11 ± 1.95 to 41.41 ± 2.31 μg/mL
