Introduction: Symposium Limitarianism: Extreme Wealth as a Moral Problem

The growing concentration of wealth has acquired a new urgency in recent years. One particular view in this context is developed by Ingrid Robeyns in her ground-breaking work on limitarianism. According to this view, no one should have more than a certain amount of valuable goods, such as income and wealth. The contributors to this symposium, Brian Berkey, David Axelsen and Lasse Nielsen, Jessica Flanigan and Christopher Freiman, and Lena Halldenius, critically examine various aspects of limitarianism. In particular, they examine how limitarianism should be interpreted and developed as a principle of justice, on what reasons speak in favour and against limitarianism, and on how limitarianism relates to other principles of distributive justice. Our hope is that this symposium will contribute to the ongoing debate in political philosophy about the concentration of wealth and economic justice

Eine Ethik der Integration kann den aktuellen öffentlichen Diskurs über Migrationspolitik bereichern. Dazu ist es jedoch erforderlich, über die idealtheoretisch geprägten Debatten der politischen Theorie hinauszugehen und eine moralstrategische Perspektive einzunehmen. In diesem Beitrag werden einige Grundlagen einer pragmatischen Ethik der Integration geklärt, wobei drei Fragen im Zentrum stehen: Was sind die Kriterien einer gelingenden Integration von Immigrant_innen? Was sind die auf Integration bezogenen Pflichten und Rechte der Institutionen und Bürger_innen eines Landes, das Immigrant_innen aufnimmt? Was sind die auf Integration bezogenen Rechte und Pflichten von Immigrant_innen?An ethics of integration can contribute to the current public discourse about migration politics. For this purpose it is necessary to surpass the ideal-theoretically coined debates of political theory, and rather follow a moral strategic perspective. This essay clarifies some foundations of a pragmatic ethics of integration whereby three questions are most important: What are the criteria of a successful integration of immigrants? What are the integration related obligations and rights of the institutions and citizens of the country, which takes in the immigrants? What are the integration related rights and obligations of immigrants

Einleitung: Pflicht oder Verantwortung?

Der Schwerpunkt versammelt vier Aufsätze, die sich mit dem Verhältnis der philosophischen Begriffe „Verantwortung“ und „Pflicht“ beschäftigen. Obwohl diese beiden Begriffe einander sehr ähnlich sind und beide in der praktischen Philosophie eine wichtige Rolle spielen, gibt es kaum Untersuchungen zu der Frage, in welcher Beziehung beide Begriffe zueinander stehen. Drei Weisen, das Verhältnis zwischen Verantwortung und Pflicht zu bestimmen, scheinen naheliegend: 1. Die Begriffe sind synonym zu verstehen; 2. Verantwortung ist der zentrale Begriff; 3. Pflicht ist der zentrale Begriff. In dieser Einleitung werden diese drei möglichen Positionen skizziert und die vier Texte des Schwerpunktes vorgestellt

Konsum, ökonomische Ungleichheit und sozialer Status

Zwischen der Würde eines Menschen und seinem sozialen Status besteht ein enger Zusammenhang, der sich über Armut und Reichtum vermittelt. So lautet unsere Grundthese in diesem Aufsatz, die wir in drei Schritten darlegen. In einem ersten Schritt klären wir die Begriffe der Würde, der Armut, des Reichtums und des sozialen Status. In einem zweiten Schritt zeigen wir auf phänomenologische Weise, wie stark Konsumverhalten von den ökonomischen Verhältnissen abhängt und wie wichtig Konsum für den sozialen Status ist. In einem dritten Schritt führen wir die beiden ersten Teile zusammen und argumentieren für den Zusammenhang von Würde, Ungleichheit und Status
