    Organoindate room temperature ionic liquid: Synthesis, physicochemical properties and application

    The combination of equimolar amounts of solid 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolum chloride (BMI-Cl) with solid indium trichloride affords the new room temperature and air stable ionic liquid BMI.InCl4 (mp -6 degreesC). The major physicochemical properties (density, viscosity, electrical conductivity and electrochemical window) of BMI.InCl4 are complementary to those of classical tetrafluoroborate or hexafluorophosphate analogues. However, this liquid possesses similar Lewis acidity properties to those of organoaluminate melts and can be used as recyclable media, as demonstrated here for the tetrahydropyranylation of alcohols.81155115

    Organoindate(III) ionic liquid ((BMIInCl4)-In-.) was successfully employed in the nucleophilic addition of allyltrimethylsilane, silyl enol ethers and ketene silyl acetals to in situ generated cyclic N-acyliminium ions at room temperature without the need of an external Lewis acid.     Intermolecular hydroamination or hydroarylation reactions of norbornene and cyclohexadiene performed with catalytic amounts of Bronsted or Lewis acid in ionic liquids were found to provide higher selectivity and yields than those performed in classical organic solvents.     The complex [Sn(3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyrone)(2)(H(2)O)(2)] immobilized in 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloro-indate (BMI.InCl(4)) ionic liquid forms an effective biphasic catalytic system for the production of biodiesel from the alcoholysis of soybean oil. ESI-MS experiments during the transesterification reaction indicate that the reaction may proceed through the formation of a cationic species formed through the substitution of one pyrone ligand by one alcohol molecule, followed by coordination of the carboxylate compound to tin. New mass spectrometric data collected via laser-induced acoustic desorption and the thermal desorption of ionic liquids are also presented as well as additional DFT calculations. The complexes were synthesized from two widely used diacetylpryridine (dap) ligands, i.e. 2,6-diacetylpyridinebis(benzoic acid hydrazone) and 2,6-diacetylpyridinebis(2-aminobenzoic acid hydrazone).     Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)This paper describes the use of imidazolium-based ionic liquids {1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [BMI-BF4], 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate [BMI-PF6], and 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [BMI-NTf2]} as efficient supports for Lewis and Bronsted acids ,which are promoters of the aminolysis of some esters, fatty acids, and fatty acid esters (among others) to form amide derivatives. Some esters and carboxylic acids were tested to demonstrate the generality of the methodology, and the corresponding amides were obtained in high yields. Recycling reactions (at least eight reuses) without a notable loss in activity could be performed by using CdO and SnCl2 as catalysts in BMI-NTf2 as the ionic medium. Bronsted acids, such as H2SO4 and HCl, were also tested with impressive results; however, it was not possible to perform recycling reactions because of catalyst leaching. The same was true when using BF3 center dot OEt2 as the catalyst. Mechanistic insights and the ionic-liquid effect were investigated by using 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy, which showed that there is a strong interaction of the imidazolium cation with the C=O and C=C bonds of methyl oleate, most likely through C-H...pi interactions, pi-stacking interactions, and ion-pair formation in the presence of a metal catalyst. Electrospray ionizationquadrupole time-of-flight experiments allowed a better understanding of the reaction mechanism.
