An Analytic Characterization of the Symmetric Extension of a Herglotz-Nevanlinna Function

We derive an analytic characterization of the symmetric extension of a Herglotz-Nevanlinna function. Here, the main tools used are the so-called variable non-dependence property and the symmetry formula satisfied by Herglotz-Nevanlinna and Cauchy-type functions. We also provide an extension of the Stieltjes inversion formula for Cauchy-type and quasi-Cauchy-type functions.Peer reviewe

Characterizations of Herglotz-Nevanlinna Functions Using Positive Semi-Definite Functions and the Nevanlinna Kernel in Several Variables

In this paper, we give several characterizations of Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions in terms of a specific type of positive semi-definite functions called Poisson-type functions. This allows us to propose a multidimensional analogue of the classical Nevanlinna kernel and a definition of generalized Nevanlinna functions in several variables. Furthermore, a characterization of the symmetric extension of a Herglotz-Nevanlinna function is also given. The subclass of Loewner functions is discussed as well, along with an interpretation of the main result in terms of holomorphic functions on the unit polydisk with non-negative real part.Peer reviewe

On quasi-Herglotz functions in one variable

In this paper, the class of (complex) quasi-Herglotz functions is introduced as the complex vector space generated by the convex cone of ordinary Herglotz functions. We prove characterization theorems, in particular, an analytic characterization. The subclasses of quasi-Herglotz functions that are identically zero in one half-plane as well as rational quasi-Herglotz functions are investigated in detail. Moreover, we relate to other areas such as weighted Hardy spaces, definitizable functions, the Cauchy transform on the unit circle, sum-rule identities and matrix-valued Herglotz functions

Herglotz functions and applications in electromagnetics

    Get PDF
Herglotz functions inevitably appear in pure mathematics, mathematical physics, and engineering with a wide range of applications. In particular, they are the pertinent functions to model passive systems, and thus appear in modeling of electromagnetic phenomena in circuits, antennas, materials, and scattering. In this chapter, we review the basic theory of Herglotz functions and its applications to determine sum rules and physical bounds for passive systems.Peer reviewe

Characterizations of the lebesgue measure and product measures related to holomorphic functions having non-negative imaginary or real part

    Get PDF
In this paper, we study a class of Borel measures on Double-struck capital Rn that arises as the class of representing measures of Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions. In particular, we study product measures within this class where products with the Lebesgue measures play a special role. Hence, we give several characterizations of the n-dimensional Lebesgue measure among all such measures and characterize all product measures that appear in this class of measures. Furthermore, analogous results for the class of positive Borel measures on the unit poly-torus with vanishing mixed Fourier coefficients are also presented, and the relation between the two classes of measures with regard to the obtained results is discussed.Peer reviewe
