Intellectual colonialism and national education systems

    No full text
The concept of intellectual colonialism has recently attracted much attention. Initially, it arose on the basis of a rethinking of the educational processes in the former African colonies of Britain, France, etc. and then acquired a new meaning as a new form of colonization without involving seizure of territories. Further globalization processes accelerated development of this phenomenon and expanded its worldwide influence. Colonial subordination tactics may take various forms. In African countries lacking a well-developed national system of education, intellectual colonialism functions through the introduction of education in the language of the former colonizers of this country. In Eastern Europe, Russia, which have been historically characterized by highly-developed education systems, the effect of intellectual colonialism is manifested in the destruction of these national systems and their subordination to a unified global system rooted in the culture and principles of particular countries (primarily the USA and the UK, which hold leading ranking positions and concentrate financial flows). In countries with a highly-developed economy and stable policy, such as Japan, intellectual colonialism undermines the authority of national education systems through the advancement of world rankings. © 2018, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. © 2020 Eskisehir Osmangazi University. The article aims at determining the specifics of legal consciousness of Russian youth, as well as to determining the ways and possibilities of developing mechanisms for its development. For this purpose, two surveys were conducted: first-among 30 experts in the field of human rights and freedoms and second-among 800 respondents aged from 14 to 25 years from 15 regions of the Russian Federation. Characteristic features of legal consciousness of modern students as a subjective factor of reflection and construction of social and legal reality are allocated and described. The levels of formation of the rights consciousness of University students were revealed; the specificity of the legal consciousness of young people depending on the spheres of life (household, business, civil) was revealed; the mechanisms for the correction of legal consciousness in terms of higher education are presented. The results showed that the majority of respondents have an adequate understanding of human rights and freedoms, but a significant proportion of respondents do not have a solid legal knowledge and even refer to the Constitution such rights and freedoms that are not only not provided for in it, but are contrary to the norms of a democratic state

Evaluation of the gas industry company’s competitiveness in the domestic market

Quantification of a company’s competitiveness in the gas industry is necessary in order to find the possibility for that entity to maintain or increase its competitive advantage in the respective markets for goods and services. Therefore, the market opportunities of an economic entity are the result of the competitive advantages creation, the form, quantity, and quality of which determine the scope, nature and success of the entity’s activity in its market segment and the possibility of its expanding to new markets. The need to assess competitiveness is confirmed by the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Russian companies’ activities in the oil and gas industry. The authors applied a dynamic method for assessing the competitiveness of a leading company in the Russian gas market. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that it is advisable to use this method, because it makes it possible to identify the main factors that influenced the level of competitiveness of the investigated object. These factors, therefore, allows us to determine the main reserves for increasing the competitiveness of the analyzed enterprise. The practical application of this study finding is possible in the field of corporate governance and strategic planning for gas companies. © 2020, Econjournals. All rights reserved

Feasibility study of renewable energy deployment scenarios in remote arctic communities

    No full text
The paper aims to analyze the economic efficiency of investments in renewable energy in remote areas of the Russian Arctic. Despite the proximity to oil and gas wells, the development of renewable energy sources (RES) is most promising in these locations. The paper presents a feasibility study of two investment options based on RES with a calculation of electricity costs which ensure an expected return to potential investors. The estimation is given in comparison to the existing electricity rates in some communities of the Russian Arctic. The investigation revealed that the investment in RES is feasible but requires a proper technical and financial estimation. The estimation of undiscounted future cash flows may not be sufficient in case of long-term investments; high initial capital investments in RES are not always covered by lower operating costs. As a conclusion, the investment option of the wind-power plant with the system of accumulation and use of energy in the form of hydrogen, bound in a liquid organic carrier is less financially attractive due to high capital investments in comparison with the variant of wind-diesel deployment. The given calculations can provide an economic feasibility approach in finding the best option for RES deployment in remote Arctic areas. © 2018, Econjournals. All rights reserved

Immunological monitoring for prediction of clinical response to antitumor vaccine therapy

Immunotherapy has shown promising results in a variety of cancers, including melanoma. However, the responses to therapy are usually heterogeneous, and understanding the factors affecting clinical outcome is still not achieved. Here, we show that immunological monitoring of the vaccine therapy for melanoma patients may help to predict the clinical course of the disease. We studied cytokine profile of cellular Th1 (IL-2, IL-12, IFN-γ) and humoral Th2 (IL-4, IL-10) immune response, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGFA), transforming growth factor-β 2 (TGF-β 2), S100 protein (S100A1B and S100BB), adhesion molecule CD44 and serum cytokines β2-microglobulin to analyze different peripheral blood mononuclear cell subpopuations of patients treated with dendritic vaccines and/or cyclophosphamide in melanoma patients in the course of adjuvant treatment. The obtained data indicate predominance of cellular immunity in the first adjuvant group of patients with durable time to progression and shift to humoral with low cellular immunity in patients with short-term period to progression (increased levels of IL-4 and IL- 10). Beta-2 microglobulin was differentially expressed in adjuvant subgroups: its higher levels correlated with shorter progression-free survival and the total follow-up time. Immunoregulatory index was overall higher in patients with disease progression compared to the group of patients with no signs of disease progression. Copyright: Mikhaylova et al

In children with bronchial asthma: Causal, complicated, unspecified, reverse

The review, based on modern literature data and the results of many years of research conducted by the authors, highlights the problem of comorbidity (multimorbidity) in children with bronchial asthma (BA). There is a grouping of concomitant diseases in children with asthma depending on the type of comorbidity (causal, complicated, unspecified, reverse). Based on epidemiological data, observational and cohort studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, information on the frequency of BA in children with various comorbid diseases and comorbid diseases in children with BA was summarized. Scientific, theoretical and practical significance of comorbidity in BA, diagnostic and treatment programs in pediatric patients suffering from BA and comorbid diseases are substantiated. © 2021, Pediatria Ltd..
