The article is devoted to the questions connected with teaching English to students of non-linguistic specialties. For example, teaching professionally focused reading and writing scientific articles and organization of listening on professional topics. In these cases, as it is mentioned teacher must choose teaching materials carefully and very often use discursive analysis. The methods used in the article are questionnaire and observation. The main purpose of the article is to correlate results of the questionnaire which was connected with expectations of foreign language course and which was done by the first-year students of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology and some features of teaching "English for specific purposes" which can help to satisfy expectations. Materials of the article can be useful for university foreign language teachers during elaboration of "English for specific purposes" course.peer-reviewe

Motivational potential of using the social-game model in teaching a foreign language

Updating language education in Russia today requires implementing the newest and most efficient pedagogic techniques in teaching process. The main trait of these techniques is the presence of a means-and-methods package of enacting theory-based teaching process that allows one to accomplish targeted teaching objectives. It is connected with the transition to communication-oriented teaching of foreign languages, which indicates a change of modern paradigm in teaching of foreign languages. It is not merely a foreign language itself along with its expressive means, but also the speaker's behavior under the conditions of actual communication that become the subject of teaching within the framework of this paradigm. Moreover, a principally different approach to teaching of foreign languages in higher education institutions is needed to implement major changes in the entire educational system, due to constant demand of specialists that actually have a good command of foreign languages. That is why motivational setting of learning also changes when students want to master at least one foreign language as a communication means and as a means of studying other cultures. Therefore, the main goal of education is to provide students with efficient command of a foreign language as a means of creation and formulation of ideas in the sphere of daily casual and professional communication. It means that a speaker's behavior under the conditions of actual communication is understood today firstly as animated and activity-oriented realization of lingual, psychological and social-cultural knowledge that is necessary for communicating in a foreign language. Thus, the following aspects of the problem are reviewed in the article: capabilities of motivation in learning a foreign language; using the social-game model as an educating device; pedagogical potential of the social-game model as an educational resource; possibilities of forming communicative and social skills in teaching a foreign language and etc.392-39

The formation and development of a new education system and the labor market promotes that requirements to the level of language proficiency of students considerably increase. The purpose of learning of foreign language is changing. The knowledge of English language and ability to conduct a fluent dialogue becomes one of the criteria of professionalism and future career development. In connection with these requirements, teaching a foreign language acquires a particular importance. The efficiency of teaching a foreign language in higher education institution assumes modernization of the content and educational technologies

REFLECTION OF NATIONAL AND CULTURAL VALUES OF PAREMIOLOGICAL FUND IN RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

The rationale of the problem in hand is caused by insufficient study of a question of paremiological resources of English and Russian languages. The purpose of the article consists in studying, description and comparison of substantial signs of paremiological units in English and Russian languages. Served as the leading methods to research of this problem: method of phraseological identification; continuous sampling method. As a result of comparison paremiological resources of English and Russian languages it is possible to claim that similarity between them is observed in fundamental values of both a moral and utilitarian order. Distinctions concern the plan of expression, distribution and combination theory of norms, and degree of their relevance for these cultures. Materials of article can be useful during developing linguo-didactic bases of the national focused textbooks, manuals, dictionaries references of the compared languages

PROFESSIONALLY FOCUSED READING WHILE STUDYING ENGLISH

Professionally focused reading by students of nonlinguistic specialties has always been a topical issue for University English language teachers. The purpose of the article is to characterize methods of selection and ways of assessment a text as an educational unit in the process of teaching English for specific purposes and in order to form different foreign-language speech activities. The leading method to research this problem is linguistic statistics that allows studying of the quantitative regularities of a natural language, which are shown in texts. The main results of multidimensional linguistic statistics research of texts of technical sublanguages, concerning selection and an assessment of the educational text are stated

The paper analyzes the topical issue concerning training of creative specialists in the professional training system. The concept of advanced education, which allows to provide such new properties and qualities as portability, adaptability, continuity, innovativeness, creativity is considered as key in professional education restructuring. The paper covers a number of existing modern researches in the field of advanced education, offers the author's solution for the introduction of such system as "training for the future", for the "advanced" professional model construction, the implementation of advanced education courses. According to the concept of advanced education courses, the concept of advanced training courses for students (ATC), which focus on finishing the present professional training model constructing by adding the future professional competence, is introduced, thus, allowing to increase future specialists' competitiveness, to form full readiness to the chosen professional profile realization. The paper considers the role of supplementary education as the most important structure of the advanced professional training concept realization as an additional stimulant for the change of management and educational policy of professional education institutions towards well-defined restructuring strategies, the need for the professional training track reconsideration, the educational process quality change. Keywords: education, creative specialist, advanced education, advanced education courses JEL Classifications: P46, P5

A Model of Catalytic Cracking: Catalyst Deactivation Induced by Feedstock and Process Variables

    Get PDF
Changes in the quality of the feedstocks generated by involving various petroleum fractions in catalytic cracking significantly affect catalyst deactivation, which stems from coke formed on the catalyst surface. By conducting experimental studies on feedstocks and catalysts, as well as using industrial data, we studied how the content of saturates, aromatics and resins (SAR) in feedstock and the main process variables, including temperature, consumptions of the feedstock, catalyst and slops, influence the formation of catalytic coke. We also determined catalyst deactivation patterns using TG-DTA, N2 adsorption and TPD, which were further used as a basis for a kinetic model of catalytic cracking. This model helps predict the changes in reactions rates caused by coke formation and, also, evaluates quantitatively how group characteristics of the feedstock, the catalyst-to-oil ratio and slop flow influence the coke content on the catalyst and the degree of catalyst deactivation. We defined that a total loss of acidity changes from 8.6 to 30.4 wt% for spent catalysts, and this depends on SAR content in feedstock and process variables. The results show that despite enriching the feedstock by saturates, the highest coke yields (4.6-5.2 wt%) may be produced due to the high content of resins (2.1-3.5 wt%)

The impact of secondary mineral formation on Na-K-geothermometer readings: a case study for the Valley of Geysers hydrothermal system (Kronotsky State Nature Biosphere Reserve, Kamchatka)

The temperature in the Valley of Geysers (Kamchatka) geothermal reservoir calculated using the feldspar Na-K-geothermometer has been steadily increasing over the past 10 years on average from 165 to 235 Β°C, which is close to the temperature values of a hydrothermal explosion of the steam and water mixture. For the analysis of chemical geothermometers, TOUGHREACT-simulation was used, with the help of which the previously known Na-K feldspar geothermometer was reproduced on a single-element model and new formulas were obtained for three Na-K geothermometers: zeolite, smectite, and based on volcanic glass. Data of chemical analysis for the period 1968-2018, in which the chloride ion is considered as an inert tracer of geofiltration processes, indicates that after 2007 a significant inflow of infiltration water (its mass fraction is estimated from 5 to 15Β %) into the Geyser reservoir. It is assumed that the Na-K increased values of the feldspar geothermometer are not the result of the temperature increase in the Geyser reservoir, but the effect of smectite water dilution
