The City of Sarajevo, since its establishment in the 15th century, was facing a constant population growth and enlargement process of the city area. Due to the topographical conditions of Sarajevo's location in the valley, the potential expanding city area is very limited and the future expanding zones should be carefully selected (Arhiv Zavoda za planiranje razvoja Kantona Sarajevo, 1984a). Different phases and epochs of city's development history are readable along the valley from east towards west, from Ottoman, through Austroā€“Hungarian, Modern and Postā€“Modern period. As a part of former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, Sarajevo got its first Building Code in 1880. This planning document should have helped to regulate the upcoming development of the city and its settlement area in an integrative way. In 1893 Sarajevo got its second Building Code, an "update" of the first one, and ever since then, this kind of spatial planning instrument was and is missing in Sarajevo's development and planning regulative (Biblioteka Zemaljskog muzeja BiH, 1884). This paper explains why it is important to reintroduce the planning tool of the ā€œBuilding Code for Canton Sarajevoā€ as an instrument of the integrative, balanced and smart trans-sectoral development of Canton Sarajevo

The presence of high mobility group box-1 and soluble receptor for advanced glycation end-products in juvenile idiopathic arthritis and juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: The involvement of high mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) in various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases has been documented but clinical trials on the contribution of this pro-inflammatory alarmin in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are basically absent. To address the presence of HMGB1 and a soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products (sRAGE) in different subtypes of JIA and additionally in children with SLE, we enrolled a consecutive sample of children harvested peripheral blood as well as synovial fluids (SF) at diagnosis and correlated it with ordinary acute-phase reactants and clinical markers. ----- METHODS: Serum and synovial fluids levels of HMGB1 and sRAGE in total of 144 children (97 with JIA, 19 with SLE and 27 healthy controls) were determined by ELISA. ----- RESULTS: The children with JIA and those with SLE were characterised by significantly higher serum levels of HMGB1 and significantly lower sRAGE levels compared to the healthy controls. A positive correlation between serum HMGB1 and ESR, CRP, Ī±2 globulin was found while serum sRAGE levels were inversely correlated with the same inflammatory markers in children with JIA. Additionally, high level of serum HMGB1 was related to hepatosplenomegaly or serositis in systemic onset JIA. ----- CONCLUSION: The inverse relationship of the HMGB1 and its soluble receptor RAGE in the blood and SF indicates that inflammation triggered by alarmins may play a role in pathogenesis of JIA as well as SLE. HMGB1 may serve as an inflammatory marker and a potential target of biological therapy in these patients. Further studies need to show whether the determination of HMGB1 levels in patients with JIA can be a useful guideline for detecting disease activity

Effects of hemazin SC 500 (terbuthylazine) on antioxidative enzymes in human erythrocytes in vitro

    Get PDF
The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of the commercial formulation hemazin SC 500, an herbicide containing terbuthylazine as the active compound, on the isoenzyme patterns and activities of Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) and catalase (CAT), as well as on the glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity, in human erythrocytes in vitro. The human erythrocytes were treated with hemazin SC 500 over a broad range of terbuthylazine concentrations (37 nmol L-1ā€“ ā€“37 ļƒ¬mol L-1) for 1 and 3 h at a temperature of 37Ā°C. Native electrophoresis of the control and treated samples revealed two SOD1 and one CAT isoform. Treatment did not affect the SOD1 and CAT isoenzyme profile, but induced a change in their activities. Terbuthylazine at lower concentration induced a significant increase of the total SOD1 activity and decreased the GST activity in samples incubated for 1 and 3 h. On the other hand, the highest increase in the CAT activity was observed for the sample treated for 1 h with a higher concentration of terbuthylazine. Hemazin SC 500 containing terbuthylazine induces changes in the erythrocyte antioxidative system whereby the response of individual enzymatic antioxidants depends on the concentration of the pesticide and the incubation time

In order to examine the consumers' attitude towards eggs, 239 respondents in the area of the City of Belgrade were surveyed, and the assessment of the quality of eggs on the Belgrade market was done by examining the quality of eggs in super/hypermarkets. In the survey, consumers expressed their views about the place of purchase of eggs, the criteria for purchasing and the significance of certain quality traits/properties. In the egg quality test eggs of class A were used, and it was done on egg samples from 5 super/hypermarkets, from a total of 10 egg manufacturers. Based on the results of the study, it was found that most egg consumers buy in super/hypermarkets (39.62%), that the brand/manufacturer was not important for 30.37% of the respondents, that they preferred to buy larger eggs (SS, S and A classes). The quality of eggs is very important for 73.28% of subjects, and the colour of the yolk preferred by the respondents was extremely yellow (62.76%). The supply of table eggs on the market was different (from 1 to 5 manufacturers) per retail store. The quality of eggs, observed for all super/hypermarkets and all manufacturers, expressed in Haugh units, decreased with the shelf life of eggs. The quality of eggs from category 1 to 10 days, in all super/hypermarkets, observed for all manufacturers, was within the studied class A, with egg weight ranging from 60.9 to 64.1g, egg shell colour from 3.6 to 4.2, egg cleanness 4.4 to 5.0, the colour of the yolk (Roche) from 10.9 to 13.2, and the number of Haugh units from 73.2 to 91.7. The results of the research indicate that consumers in the City of Belgrade are placing importance on the quality of table eggs, that there are differences in the supply and freshness of the eggs between the markets, and that there are differences in the quality within the same market, regardless of the manufacturer.U cilju ispitivanja stavova potroÅ”ača jaja anketirano je 239 ispitanika na području Grada Beogradu, a ocena kvaliteta jaja na beogradskom tržiÅ”tu obavljena je ispitivanjem kvaliteta jaja u super/hipermarketima.

Lactobacillus fermentum Postbiotic-induced Autophagy as Potential Approach for Treatment of Acetaminophen Hepatotoxicity

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of postbiotics originated from Lactobacillus fermentum BGHV110 strain (HV110) to counteract acetaminophen (APAP)-induced hepatotoxicity in HepG2 cells. This strain was selected according to its autophagy inducing potential, based on previous studies reporting protective role of autophagy in APAP caused cellular damage. Cell viability was assessed using MTT and LDH assays, while autophagy was monitored by qPCR analysis of BECN1, Atg5, p62/SQSTM1, and PINK1 mRNA expression and by Western blot analysis of p62/SQSTM1 and lipidated LC3 accumulation. Our results showed that detrimental effect of APAP on cell viability was suppressed in the presence of HV110 which was linked with increased conversion of LC3 protein and p62/SQSTM1 protein degradation. Additionally, higher p62/SQSTM1 and PINK1 mRNA transcription were noticed in cells co-treated with APAP/HV110, simultaneously. In conclusion, this study suggests that HV110 enhances activation of PINK1-dependent autophagy in HepG2 cells and its eventual co-supplementation with APAP could be potentially used for alleviation of hepatotoxic side effects caused by APAP overdose

Dynamic Modeling of Streptomyces hygroscopicus Fermentation Broth Microfiltration by Artificial Neural Networks

    Get PDF
Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have been used to dynamically model cross-flow microfiltration of Streptomyces hygroscopicus fermentation broths. The aim is to predict permeate flux as a function of temperature, feed flow, transmembrane pressure and processing time. Dynamic modeling of microfiltration performance of complex systems (such as broths) is very important for design of new processes and better understanding of the present. The results of ANN model analysis suggest that the coefficients of the determination have high values. The application of the Bayesian regularization gave better results to the performance of the neural network compared to the Levenberg-Marquet algorithm. The optimal number of neurons in the hidden layer is eight. Analysis of the absolute relative error showed excellent permeate flux estimates for 100 % of the data points, with an error less than 5 % for the data obtained during microfiltration in the presence of a turbulence promoter. Whilst in the case of microfiltration without turbulence promoter 90 % of predictions have an error less than 10 %. The results of applying the concept of neural networks in the dynamic modeling of microfiltration of Streptomyces hygroscopicus fermentative broths with and without a turbulence promoter clearly show the validity of proposed method for simulation and prediction of microfiltration experimental results
